Are we foolish to dream...???... never...

Too Good To Be True???

Could we see a repeat of last seasons excellent, Top-To-Bottom,
record setting available terrain this Opening Day, November 22nd, 2013??

The signs surely do look very positive for that as we, along with all
the other Tremblant Fans we know, eagerly await the final countdown
to Opening Day that is only a week away from this posting.

(please note: there are date/time-shifts in this posting
as included in pic.file.data and support text.)

Below: A series of 3 Web Cam Snap Shots from
Tuesday, November 12th, 2013 showing Snowmaking
at the South Resort Base, Johannsen.

The first here, looking straight up the middle of the run.

The second in the series looks diagonally from the base of the Flying Mile
over to the base of the Gondola and up to the top plateau of Johannsen.

The third one is a zoom-in of the second looking at the snowmaking
cloud generated up at the summit on the South Side. You see that here
as the very dark snowcloud patch at the top, right hand side of the frame.

You can also see the close to last Snowmaking gun on Beauvallon Bas(lower),
so we think the descent path from the Summit to the Gondola base is complete.

In our opinion, based on many seasons of observation, when the
Tremblant Mountain Operations Group has invested this much time
and manpower in the early deployment of Snowmaking to this extent,
it is because their weather models/forecasts support the retention
of the blown snow to an advantage in the opening of the terrain
it covers, in the near term, i.e. "Opening Day", in this case.

The next two below are taken at the Summit and they both face the
extreme sides of the Web Cam's range of motion over first, the
Lowell Thomas Sector....

And secondly, over the Duncan Sector.

At the particular time the two above were taken, the South facing
Web Cam view was obscured by a snowy covering. We have another
time slot showing the South view to be added shortly.

This shot below is the real surprise though, because there are not
many pre-season days this close to opening that show this kind
of accumulation at the North Base.

laid out in two lines to left of Lift Base. Referenced Below.)

Whether or not the all natural snow here will "stick" is yet to be realized,
but at the very least it shows a wonderful advance of seasonal conditions
and an overall sub-zero ground temp that can support retained snow.

That's a huge bonus no matter what, opening the North will be easier
with the ground well saturated if it does not stay snow and if it does
stay as snow it could be one of the best North Side openings ever.

Moving back in time to Monday, Nov. 11th....

...to the last clear view we have of the South Summit Sector, here
is one of our whacky stitched, composite view panorama panels...

Here's a little reminder of Last Years Opening Day and
we're looking forward to the possibility of this year's
being just as good, and just as much fun!

Monday, Nov. 18th, 2013 ... 4 days 'til Seasons Opening.

If you look at the really big weather picture, weather patterns
happen on a very reliable, predictable way with 100% certainty.

For example... After "Summer", "Fall" comes, and then after "Fall", "Winter
shows up, then "Spring" Sunshine smiles on us until we warm up to "Summer" again.

Not-So-Surprisingly, but with less sequential certainty, the individual
seasons also have their patterns and while the post above shows an
early and positive start to Snow at Tremblant, we've just come through
a very dramatic "Colorado Low" storm system that has tracked its way
up from the lower middle States, across the Great Lakes Basin on its
way diagonally towards the Atlantic Coast as they often can at this time
of year.

Typically, these storm patterns move from the lower North American
South-West, even the Gulf of Mexico, diagonally up toward the
North-East Atlantic Coast. Beyond the general direction though,
timing is somewhat to highly variable, at the whim of Mother Nature.

Also very typical of such a system, it brought warmer winds and rain over the
last couple of days since we put the first post up above, so now things
look a wee bit less white than last week.

We got off easy though, Tornado's, property destruction and the devastation of thousands of
square miles of natural growth for our American Cousins in the Mid-West has wrecked havoc
on the lives of millions, and unfortunately, some fatalities too. We need to be thankful that
all we lost was some snow that hopefully, Tremblant Mountain Crews can put back in place
with their powerful snowmaking capability in about 24-30 hours.

90 Seconds @ 90 KMPH

We don't know for sure if the gusts that were strong enough
to vibrate the telephone pole that the Summit web Cam is mounted
on were actually at 90K in this shot below, but we've been up there
when those kinds of winds have been around and since the Weather
Network estimated the top speeds up to 90 KMPH, we're going with that.

In this next two below, the peak gust has passed, but you can literally
see "what the wind blew in", in the form of cloud and precipitation.
All three of these Web Cam samples were taken in roughly 90 seconds.

In this 3 panel Web Cam Composite above, we can see that the band of
weather has passed off toward the North and now we have Blue Sky!
Looking frame left, you can see a band of moving precipitation off
to the South over old Mont Tremblant Village.

Down at the South Side Resort Level... by 3:40 P.M., despite the warm
conditions, there was still snow clearly visible, a great sign that there's
still a chance to save the efforts of Mountain Crews.

The Good News... was that up at the Summit, by the same 3:40 P.M.
time, the cold front had already become evident as you can tell by these
5 frames below:

Last year Hurricane Sandy, together with a Nor-Easter, combined to generate what some
called "The Perfect Storm". We speculated then that Tremblant would benefit from
all that as the thorough soaking the Mountain got helped to draw heat out and speed up
the rate that the ground could freeze at when the temps finally stabilized into consistent
winter directions.

Same thing this year, although it's a bit later, and not so much out-right rain, but non-the-less,
all forms of moisture going into the Mountain up to this point will help to set the stage for
a great base for this winters Alpine Snow Sports that are scheduled to start-up this
coming Friday, November 22nd.

Daytime temps over the weekend did climb above freezing, and the wind was
moving with peak gusts up to 80-90 KMPH, so retaining any snow was good to
begin with, but to hang on to as much as we did, we think will be a very good
sign that snowmaking can get back on track very quickly.

Tremblant went back below Zero, Freezing, back into Snowmaking territory,
late afternoon, and it's forecast to have multiple Sub-Zero hours every
day, mostly over-nights, right up to Opening Day now. We expect to see
tons of activity from the Snowmaking team during all prime, cool, hours.

We think having Ski-out to South Base may still be very much do-able,
if Mother Nature and human logistics can find make a way. Regardless,
there will be great Skiing/Boarding on the top sectors close to the Summit
in any event and if we do get top-to-bottom, well, that'll be a fabulous
surprise bonus for all lucky enough to be here!

If you scroll way back up to the first post of this thread, you'll see
the same pic of the Expo Quad, but with many of the chairs off the
cable.

Evidently, Mountain Crews have been busy, so it's nice to see all
the chairs back on Expo.

In the most positive re-assurance of all, fresh snowfall accumulation on
both the South and North prove beyond any doubt that conditions are
very favourable for a "Too Good To Be True" repeat on last seasons
record for Top-To-Bottom South Side Open Terrain on Opening Day!

More later as time progresses, but serious Tremblant Fans that can make
it out for Opening Day/Weekend, should be finalizing their plans now.
