11/26/15 #Tremblant Conditions. Open Day 1.

Fall/September 2016 Editors Note Of Historical Perspective
Regarding Opening Day 11/26/15 and the season following:

This note is being placed herein 9/26/16, as an introductory
insight, due to the unusual weather pattern that started the
season with a lower than average accumulation, but ended the
season with an above average total accumulation and correspondingly
excellent conditions.

You will have to read through to see how it unfolds, and of course,
we had no idea how it would go in advance, so there is a definite
“Make The Best Of It”, positive tone of reassurance while the early
season snow seemed sparse for a while.

What you need to know is that there was Excellent Skiing every single
day of the 2015/2016 season, even though there where early portions
with less coverage than we might have wished for, BUT.....

Considering that many regional Ski-Areas including Blue Mountain, that
did not open until after Christmas.... Tremblant Opened on this 11/26/15 date,
and stayed open with great skiing, when many, many others across
Eastern North America had little or no snow at all.

Advantage “North” Latitude, Advantage Tremblant!

We also need to point out that at one point, as the season really
gets going, Tremblant receives approximately 44.597249% of the 509cm
Seasonal Total in approximately 18 days of glorious Blizzard activity.

You’ll have to read through to find out about that, but needless to say,
we were as surprised and overjoyed as could be expected.

Every season is a “Fingerprint” of individual circumstances, but no matter
that Mother Nature can sometimes get a little “Lean", Tremblant Mountain
Op’s seem to pull it all together and keep great Ski Trails not only Open,
but, with almost flawless, wall-to-wall coverages as well.

Advantage... Tremblant.

For the sake of initial confirmation and relief, the Skiing,
albeit on only the Versant Nord, North Side Trail(#72), P’tit Bonheur, was very fine.

Mostly a moist, but not sticky, granular “Spring-like” surface with solid edge,
grip and very, very, fast.

Considering all the North American Continental seasonal warm weather Glitches
up to this point, we’re fortunate to have “Skiing" to any degree, let alone an entire
run with Hazard Free, Wall-to-wall coverage.

More on that below, but first...

Below:

Technically speaking, we are still in the “Fall” Season, and as you
round the turn by the Government Dock coming from Old Mt.Tremblant
Village, that becomes instantly recognizable.

Also instantly recognizable is the primary 24 Hour Children’s Charity Fundraiser Event
Snow Track for next weekend, under construction on lower Beauvallon/Johannsen
down to the Resort Base.

Riding up the Gondola, the elevation temperature drop reminds you that
even if it is “Fall”, “Winter” is definitely on the way in...

Once you arrived at the Summit, the feeling was all Winter looking
out across the top towards the North.

The weather forecast had included some sun in the morning, but beyond
intermittent brightness, it remained a more or less, light overcast.
Temp wise, the South Base level got up to +6 C and the Summit touched
+1C. By mid afternoon there was a light drizzle at lower and mid levels
and a more solid snow pellet at the Summit, however that too turned into
a very light drizzle.

None of that seemed to have any effect on the Snow Surfaces that remained
fast throughout the day.

We have numerous references over the years in these pages
on the “Goto” reliability of P’tit Bonheur...

today is another one...

The consistent quality of this Trail from First Tracks on Opening Day,
right up to Last Run of Closing Day, proves it’s reliability season after season.

It is a remarkably fine trail of simple, brilliant design, with a very true
fall-line descent, and Skiers/Boarders of all skill levels can derive training
benefit from its superb preparation for this and any Opening Day.

Below:
Here’s a close-up of the Snow Surface itself. Slightly moist granular with no
stickiness, very good edging, and really fast.

If there was a drawback, it had nothing to do with the Trail or its condition,
it was just that “Speed” was a concern, because with the entire attendance
lapping on one piece of real-estate, there were areas of tight traffic where
speed was not appropriate for safe navigation through groups of beginners
and intermediates.

Below:
Lower P’tit Bonheur... same as upper... very very fine and fast.

All Weather Things Considered...

The Golf Fairways of Eastern North America are still Green, and there
are lots of Golfers still out there, so we are lucky to be Skiing/Boarding at all.

Many, Most, Almost All... Eastern Ski Areas scheduled to be “Open”
are “Closed” due to Heat Above 0C/32F... EXCEPT TREMBLANT...
were there’s been just enough Sub-Zero to make excellent Snow...

Additional terrain Opening is possible within a day, but we’re going to
have to get through Friday’s day-time “Warm” first.

Mother Nature has played her heat “Trump” cards recently, but the tide
is turning and Mountain Crews are working around the clock to get their
advantage back, so lets get out and support them along the way!

We hope to have a fully comprehensive Apres Ski with Pic’s, weather data,
whatever scoops we can get on additional trail openings etc. We’ll post the
notifications up on Twitter and Facebook as soon as we can, early eve.

Cya.
