Official Statistics Are Important,
but they don’t tell the whole story...

Ski Resorts are often accused of exaggerating Snowfall Statistics, but
most, including Tremblant use Officially recorded statistics that are
gathered in standard scientific methods. That statistic for the last
Excellent, Tremblant Snowfall event of 4 days ago, over Feb. 28, Mar. 1,
is 11cm, and in this case, we feel the Official Statistical Total belittles or
even trivializes the true significance of this Snowfall Event.

We are not limited to that finite definition, and due to Wind Induced
Drifting and Geo-Atmospheric phenomenon like Orographic Precipitation,
neither is Mother Nature, so we are continuing to draw attention to some
of the 2/28, 3/1 Snowfall accumulation characteristics that Tremblant
Guests are getting benefit from right now, March 4th, 2018.

First... This is a crude comparison of relative measurement between a
Ski, Bindings, Boots and an Apple iPhone 4s, things commonly understood
by today’s Skiers, set against a CM Scale that clearly shows where 11cm’s
would amount to if the snowfall actually had uniform depth over all trails.

In this above POV, 11cm’s does not look like all that much.

Now, here’s ONE of Many examples of reality that shows
a different, and far more impressive picture.

We are not exactly sure where the Official Collection Point is
for Tremblant’s Snowfall daily totals, but from observations
as we might see above, we think is fairly certain it is not
on the right side of Beauchemin Haut, Upper. The Snow
accumulations on the right descending side of Beauchemin
were in places, over 40cm’s. If you look closely at the edge
of the trail to the right side of the Skier, you will notice wind
shaped curls of snow projecting outward over the trail edge
where aerodynamics was at work filling in the side of the trail
closest to the bush. During the Event itself, some of these
Drift lines extended out over the trails up to about 8 metres.
In some of the narrower Tree-lined Trails, the whole width filled
in in similar ways, and there were other examples of this very
deep trail-side fill-in in the adjacent Lowell Thomas Sector.
In some cases we were making close to Knee-Deep powder turns.
It was not like this everywhere, but all we can say on that point
is that those in attendance had about 12 hours worth of Deep
Powder turns that would excite any Expert Eastern Skiers, over
the afternoon it started and the following day.

As Mountain Crews have subsequently been Grooming, all this
snow, regardless of variable localized depths, has been worked into
the base for the most part by now, plus there has been more snow.
The Powder Turns are memories, but the enhancement to Base quality
and the vastly improved thickness of Soft, Icy-free top layers is a real,
and genuine quality enhancement. Additionally, a higher density after
multiple overnight Grooming cycles that produce greater rates of compaction
and consequent resistance to Mogul formations, are the primary benefits all
Tremblant guests should realize today in the indicated Groomed, Official Trail
Archived Data, attached below.

Conditions Notes:

While recent Snowfall has actually been quite well
distributed over Tremblant’s Footprint, there are
areas that were favoured and some areas less so.
Consequently...
There may still be Soft Spots that can build Moguls.
There may still be small Traffic or Wind generated Icy Bits.

Explore With Care and Conservative Speed on Initial descents.
Stick with realistically matched Terrain to Actual Skill Levels.
If you are a Better Skier/Boarder than the Friends you are bringing
with you, guide them wisely to Terrain that they can’t get into
trouble on.
