4/10/18 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Mid-Evening Apres Ski Edit @ 8:45 P.M.

At The End Of The Day...

Our Forecast Called For Snow... but it was not a steady Snow,
it was a very quickly moving Squall activity, and this is
how it looked at 4:45 P.M. at Versant Nord, North Side Base.

Compared to the forecast models that called for rain/snow mix,
not a single drop of rain fell anywhere that we are aware of.

Working Back In Time...

The Sky Drama played off Cloud and Sun all day and there were
variable amounts of both, but overall, we’d have to say there was
more Sun, so this Duncan, Summit level shot depicts the way things
were most of the time.

No matter where you went today, the only thing your Skis were on
was “Winter” Snow. No Heat, No Mush, No Slow, All Smooth,
All Light, All Quick, and Totally Excellent “Winter” SNOW!!!

Is This Really April 10th???

If you wanted to, you could imagine these 3 photo’s, 2 above and 1 below,
as a 3 step zoom-in on McCulloch, and it would be entirely appropriate to
place that kind of focus on the quality of the Groomed Expert Rated Terrain.

We try to address the individual Skill Rated Terrain for the advantages that
all Tremblant Guests can find, and here is a great example of very User Friendly
Expert Level Terrain that is a joy to be on. Reading further down we take a look
at Green Terrain on the other end of the Challenge Spectrum.

4.9.18 - Trail Case Study,

Versant Soleil, Trail #95, Algonquin.

In This Case, A Best Case Scenario...

(Please Note: Soleil Sector is Off-Line today,
however this feature was published last night
before we knew that, and we understand it should
be available at some point again.)

We were very interested to see how all the recent Snowfall
had added to Algonquin as it had become a bit uneven with
wear and thin spots.

What we found would have been impressive on any Mid-Winter day,
but to experience this level of near-perfection on April 9th, is almost
surreal, a bit bizarre, and arguably maybe even within the top
4 or 5 days of optimized quality we’ve ever seen on this trail, ever.

To say that the last Snowfall was "Exactly What the Doctor Ordered" would
be one way to say that it was all that was necessary to produce a Groomed
reboot that in one step, took this run from just “Skiable” to “Nearly Ideal”.

The reason we say “Nearly” is that there are 2 zones of natural hazard that
were very well marked by Ski Patrol Orange Coloured Stakes, that have
very clear Perimeter Passages to bypass with, and they are both short,
say about 10 or 15 linear metres. When you consider the approximate 4.5
kilometres of this trail, those two zones are all that separate it from almost
perfection, so because they’re so well marked, and easily passed, on top
of which it’s April 9th... the overall Excellence of Algonquin today is astounding.

So, what has occurred here is nothing more or less than “Seasons Best”
overall conditions, within the last 7 days of the Official Seasons End???
Practically speaking, no one in Las Vegas would ever give you odds on
a “Seasons Best” Trail Status being achievable within the last week of
that respective Season.

Algonquin Summary: A Carvers Nirvana where Multiple Kilometres of
reliable, glitch-free surfaces allow all Skill Levels to practice all the fine
elements of Carved Turning Technique they care to work on.
Algonquin is rated as Green, but we can tell you for a fact that if
you perform nothing but Slalom Carves for it’s entire length, any
well conditioned Skier of any Skill Level can turn their Quad Muscles
into Jello. Excellent Exercise Over Excellently Prepared Trail Surfaces. Period.

Today’s Pic’s are only a few of many very fine Tremblant examples.

There might even be multiple candidates for “Best Of Season”
Conditions Status, so if it’s at all possible, you really should try to
Get Back To Tremblant!

Weather Notes:

Today: At the Temp’s and Times of the indicated precipitation that
includes mixed snow and rain icons, we would anticipate a
very high probability of that being all Snow at cooler Mountain
elevations. Nothing can be 100% certain, but the cooler it gets,
the better the odds, so we’re hoping Mother Nature sees it that
way too.

Tomorrow: Sunny A.M., questionable P.M. due to afternoon Precipitation
with +5 C, BUT... firstly, the Icons are small, indicating either light or
quick passing, localized activity... Secondly, at this temp, there is some chance
of undetermined probability that it could Snow instead of rain, or be a mix...
Thirdly, regarding the "quick passing, localized activity” part of #1, above,
it is also possible that all the Active part could completely by-pass the
Mountain, in which case it could be dry much of the time. Time will tell,
but you may want your Descente Poncho handy...

Conditions Notes:

We were Wrong, but for the Right Reasons!

Any of what we thought could make for Icy Bits yesterday,
did not happen in any of our experience, so we are happy to
be wrong on that.
Maybe there were one or two out there
somewhere, but we never found them and we would expect
that to be similar today.

Any glitches are so well marked by the Ski Patrol, that avoidance
is easy and with the surviving extent of snow covered square area
being so large, thereby allowing huge passage margins, it’s almost
like they don’t exist.

Traffic is end-of-season low, but with some of the Mountain off-line,
there are more mixed Skill Levels sharing the reduced Open Terrain
so you need to scan and keep your peripheral vision dialled up for safety.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
