Edit/Introduction to Seasons Closing.
(Notwithstanding April 21,22 Bonus Weekend.)
What Month Is This?
There Was Tremendous Mid-Winter Energy At Tremblant Today.
There was overall performance excellence within the groomed.
Compared to yesterdays refroze solid in some zones, there were
exponential overnight-shift grooming refinements/improvements
that are typical of any Day-2 of a common thermal cycle. The result
was a general expansion of quality across almost all the groomed.
And The Trail du Jour Award Goes To...
Versant Sud, South Side, Beauvallon, Haut, Upper, #8.
Beauvallon Haut, Upper, was a surprise gift that just kept on
giving due to a unique circumstance we explain below.

being pushed by the wind from P’tit Bonheur, over/across the Summit,
to end up being washed down the surface of Beauvallon, to the point
that Beauvallon was literally being refreshed by the minute.
It was almost as if every Skier/Boarder was getting “Fresh Tracks” on
every descent. Tracks you just made were filled in and no longer visible
within 1 to 3 minutes. The result was that Beauvallon Haut(upper) had
“Fresh Tracks” literally, for hours.
When you add that to it’s superb, universal wall-to-wall/ super-wide,
glitch-free coverage, its very consistent pitch angles, the light traffic
using it, ultra-high performance speed and traction, everything came
together to produce a singularly outstanding total net effect that was
very close to flawless. We explored adjacent Open Terrain, but as good
as that was, none of it was getting this unique, naturally blown over
snow-in, at the rate happening over the surface you can see above.
Doing “laps” on Beauvallon Haut off the TGV Quad was close to addictive
with each run being very much a "clean slate”, a “blank canvas” or a
“fresh start”, but on a re-occurring basis.
Otherwise, considering all the recent "Colorado Low" weather drama,
there were still wide reaching, consistent depths of loose, very even
traction within the Open Terrain. With tuned edges, levels of athletic
output could easily accrue to near or at similar to a Marathon?
The possibility to ski at peak personal levels for 8 hours
at Tremblant will certainly qualify as a reasonable facsimile
of a marathon of sorts, and today we think 99.5 percent of
those in attendance would run out of personal muscle/energy, way
before they ran out of Tremblant. Even with limited open terrain,
all that meant was that now you could explore second or third
descent lines for any given trail, i.e., left side, right side, straight
down the middle, or any combinations thereof.

here for a personal faith commitment so we were genuinely
touched to be able to include it here as a mark in time with
great significance for them.
Anecdotal Weather Observations Subject To Statistical Verification.
What we and others we know have Un-scientifically observed is
that the Elevation Differential Temperature between the Summit
and the Base(which is usually -4 C), has been cooler than normal
for the past several days or more, to the mark of -6, or even -7 C
degrees below the Sud, South Resort Base Level.

the Summit might usually be -4 C, but today, as you can see above,
never made it up to that, and it was consequently a far more “Winter”
feel, especially with the vigorous Nor-East wind. This pic. above was
the warmest we saw it at the Summit.
This is not the first time we’ve noticed this recently, and the point of
mentioning it is not only as a partial understanding for the current
retention of “Winter”, but if that lower than normal pattern continues...
there would be an obvious benefit for possibly the entire week as a
positive Snowfall contribution to the upcoming Bonus Weekend Potential.
Summary:
All the Fundamental Elements of... ambient natural snow-pack, pre-existing
heavy, cold, sustained frost into the conical mass of the Mountain acting
as a stored refrigerant, lower than average 24hr air temperature cycles
including primarily sub-zero’s, an established, thick, stable, groomed,
trail network base, mid-winter dry, deep, natural snowfall quality in April(?)
...are all there as the basis for a superbly ready, and very capable platform
for the potential of the April 21, 22 Bonus Weekend.
Detail Following over next hours/days as time permits and
weather effects become evident. If necessary, scroll back
through the last week or more, if you want to see how things
have evolved to today.
A quick word about the weather this week that
shows some mixed precipitation. So-Far... all the
temps are an a range of very close to Zero C
with Resort Base high’s at around +3/+5 C.
We think there are good chances of Snow at
Mountain elevations which could make this a
week of additional accumulations.
Just when you thought it was time to polish your Golf Clubs,
it could actually end up being deeper Snow at Tremblant...
Plan Accordingly for attendance at the April 21&22 Bonus Weekend.
It is our intent to publish a Preliminary Bonus Weekend Update,
sometime late in the work-week as Weather and Conditions
predictability becomes more evident, so please check back later for that.

Any Rumours That Tremblant Was All Icy Yesterday Are Just Not Accurate.
Any day you can have this type of “Stand On It Sideways” Performance
is a Great Day, even a Thrilling Day, by any standards we know of.
Today should have all of that again, and over a wider square area.

You bet... Nansen was excellent because the combination of rocket-fast
speed and the descent angle, were just perfect for what you see.
Furthermore, the performance depicted above, was available within
many complete descent paths and zones with the Open Terrain all day.
Basically, if you think about Speed limitations, you might
evaluate Pitch Angle and Friction as two major components
that are either directly proportional or inversely proportional.
What that means for the best performance and safest descents
is that if there’s a lot of Friction, you need a lot of Pitch Angle
to generate Speed. If there is very low to seemingly no Friction,
you need very little Pitch Angle for inherent High Speed, and
that was exactly what we had yesterday. It was super-easy to go
Mega-Fast and that means even Experts can have loads of fun on
Green or Blue Terrain. That worked out quite well as the portions of
Open Terrain that were most solid were a) the steepest, and...
b) absent of loose snow. For the most part, this combination made
the steepest pitches impractical to carve or have any “safe” speed.
At the same time, where the Grooming rendered adequate surface
finish of loose top layers, these same Green and Blue Descent lines
were equally fine for Beginners and Intermediates who could perform
basic manoeuvres with very low resistance. What the Weather did was
to cause a reduction in the square area of what could be processed as
safe Open Terrain, so we had to be content with limited Trail availability.
In the end, that was not an issue for us because what was really good
was so much fun we were thrilled to have it as it was. The Traffic was so
light that it was easy to share space too, there were times when you
felt as if you were the only person on the Mountain, even with the limited
Open Terrain.

It may be fitting that the end of the Official Season
(notwithstanding Next Bonus Weekend),
should end on such a completely Winter-like day.
Today should benefit from the Overnight Grooming Shift,
possibly to a very significant degree, due to the complete
stability of the Sub-Zero temps within the 24hr cycle that
did not have any thaw. What that means is that where there
were solid Corduroy bits from yesterday that got re-Groomed
last night, the Carbide Steel Teeth of the Grooming Tillers
may have rendered out enough loose top layers to deliver some
greatly enhanced User Friendly qualities in those sections.
When you add in everything that was already very fine
from yesterday, the net result should be a higher overall
percentage of refined terrain within the total Open array.
