To begin with...

We were right about some things we expected,
and wrong on some things we expected, but the
overall Opening Day experience was no doubt
exceptional with the total Mountain vertical,
Summit-To-Base, on both main sides, Sud, South,
and Nord, North.

What we were wrong about was the outright number
of open trails. With all the accumulated snowfall, we
had initially thought there would be more, however
what was evident is while those numbers were not
there today, they will be very soon. There are many
trails with snowmaking and judging by the fullness
of width in the existing open trail list, it seems very
clear the strategy is to open trails as close to their full
dimension as possible.

We were wrong about what we expected in the softness
in top layers and no doubt in this case, the combination of
super cold and very windy ambient weather conditions
generated a very solid base. Clinically, it was not particularly
icy, but at this density, if you don’t have good edges, it might
seem that way in some places.

What we were right about was the complete joy of
having total Mountain vertical and the initial full trail widths
to work with. In both these points, the early snow and
supporting temps has allowed a remarkable degree of
opening coverage. In balance, even though we may have
expected a few more open trails, the fullness of dimensional
coverage more than offset the trail count for an overall
better than expected start for day number one.

Despite the weather challenges, Mountain crews delivered
almost universal smoothness and there was very little
in the way of mogul formations until late in the day.
Even then, mogul zones were small and with appropriately
slow speeds, very easy to get through or around.

Sorry for the delay in this posting. We’re working with
new-to-us computer systems and the processing flow
we anticipated is not fully established.

By any historic “Opening” references, Skiing and Terrain
are within only 2 or 3 other Openings in Tremblant’s
80 past years.

The benefits of corporate investment are obvious in
the Summit Grand Manitou Lodge where the new
interior space expansion makes a huge difference.

The weather related delay of the Lowell Thomas Quad
opening now looks possible by Saturday morning(or sooner?),
from what we hear.

Below:
There has been a revision of the Official Open Trail data
and the number is up already, however Versant Nord,
the North Side, is on “Progressive” or gradual opening,
which we suspect may be temp. related. There is also
one very interesting “Open” trail, Le Tunnel, but we
don’t see a connection to get there. We’ll investigate
that one for sure, because if Le Tunnel was actually
open for Opening Day, we would think that was a
“First”, since 1939?

T360 Middle of the Night Shift Snowfall UpdateReport @ 04:36 A.M.
Very dry, cold atmospherically formed, super-fine small particle
size, “Squeaky” cool, “January” snow. Satin-like, almost dusty,
cryogenic performance snow, gently falling with occasional
stirring winds, but largely settling straight down.

This should be some of the best performing groomed snow for
all skill levels due to the ease and effectiveness of control
movements on smooth, instantly responsive surfaces.

We hope you’re just getting up now and looking for that positive
reenforcement you want for the the final push out the door way, way,
early, to make “First Tracks” at Tremblant!

Go, Go, Go!!!

More to follow in A.M.

But... all this thick, abundant, fabulous natural snowfall
has had one Mountain utility drawback...

Please Note: The Heavy snowfall of recent days has
caused a delay in the opening of the new Lowell
Thomas high speed detachable quad chairlift.
(See Archive Official Snow Report Text Intro., below)

As far as we are concerned, we may understand because one thing
we think it may have to do with is the finalization of the installation
that is subject to the law, in-so-far-as the brand new lift is an
“Elevating Device” and requires a Government Inspectors Certification
prior to carrying passengers.

It’s been snowing hard off/on for several days, so that may
have added extra challenge for crews to get the chairs on the
cable, not to mention that it may be very difficult to visually
inspect things during white-out conditions.

If there had to be a delay in the Lowell Thomas
Quad Opening...

“Too Much Snow” is the only one we could actually
smile about!

It’s not “Missing Parts”
It’s not “Wiring”
It’s not “Construction”...

It’s Too Much Snow!!!

With the forecast clearing of the sky’s, together with
warming temps, it may offer enough opportunity
to catch up with whatever delay factors there have
been. We will attempt to get as much info. on that
as we can during tomorrows open hours and we
will relate that here in Apres Ski.

Weather Notes:

Sunny, Sunny and really Kkkoool, for November.
The kicker for tomorrow will be the breezes.
Currently indicated at Nor-West, they will be rising
up the Mountain over Beauvallon, so be prepared
for “Instant Winter” when you hit the slopes.
Air-tight covering around head, neck, wrists,
waist, etc., will be your best strategy for comfort.

Versant Nord, the North Side will be the most sheltered
open terrain below the Summit, and riding up Duncan
should be O.K. until just the last crest over the top.

Next week offers a dramatic increase in easy temps, so
if you can get any days off, you’ll be rewarded with
Ski conditions that are roughly 3 weeks ahead of typical.

How much more Open Terrain will be available is an
unknown at this stage, but...

As you can see below, there is “Snowmaking” shown on
Nansen Bas, lower. This is a key point. Nansen might
normally have this activity just prior to the 24Hr. Children's
Charity Marathon Event, just into the second week of
December, so this extraordinarily early development is
simply fantastic to see on Opening Day!

Conditions Notes:

Should be fantastic! Mixed Natural and Blown Snow,
all groomed and ready to set your edges into.
Obviously, with such a large natural component
we think surfaces should be quite refined, well
compacted, and with the smoothness you expect
from primarily natural snow.

We will be monitoring snow conditions later on tonight,
so we hope to be able to post a bit more on the qualities
of the natural component around midnight. Check back
if you can. For sure, we’ll have more updates in the early
morning as well, but we have every good reason to think
it’s going to be a literally historic Opening Day.

Topic Under “Progressive” Assembly.
We are on the road to the Mountain tonight
and will be adding additional detail as time
permits.

The bottom line is that there is extraordinary potential
for Opening Day conditions and if you have the ability
to be here, don’t even think about missing this.
Before the Mountain even opens...
There Are Powder Tracks On Lower Expo!!!

When has this happened before??? Please tell us if
you can, but we do not think we have seen this much
natural snow stick so early, ever.
