12/1/18 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Midnight, Apres Ski edit at 12:50 A.M.

Todays slightly lower temps were enough to put
the “Firmness” back into the Tremblant Alpine
Trail Base.

For The Record. “Sunny”... The forecasting of “Sunny” conditions
over the past few days has not materialized for the most part.
At or near Zero C, that’s fine with us, as the actual overcast
has delivered both shade and light snowfall. There was a brief
period of 12.1.18 “Sunny” though, early in the morning.

Surfaces were just as fast as yesterday, but the firmness
and shallower shred depths that dropping temps usually bring,
were more noticeable in places like steeper pitches.

Otherwise, the edge-hold/grip capabilities remain at
very high levels everywhere open.

Lots of newly opening terrain...
However, there are natural hazards within the
Un-groomed trails that do not have snowmaking
support. Just around the corner from this shot below,
the run-out from Banzai, MCA, and Le Tunnel was
showing traffic stress and there was rocky debris.

We would not be surprised to see the Open Trail List go
up or down in the next days as the Ski Patrol monitors
safe passage and Mountain Crews make strategic decisions
about trail preservation or snow resource conservation.

Of course... More natural snowfall and more snowmaking are all
in the near-term future, so the increase in open terrain should
continue at a fairly rapid pace.

More in the morning, but with sustained lower temp’s,
you’ll be wanting some good Ski or Board edges to
exert gripping force for safe, reliable turning.

... and Tremblant continues to be one of the most beautiful
places on Earth....

“WOW” News!!! Lowell Thomas Sector OPEN!!!

(**) The Opening of the Lowell Thomas Sector is always a milestone
in Tremblant’s annual development, but today marks the very first
day in the current era that we may begin to see a fundamental shift
in Mountain Traffic flow patterns due to the brand new Lowell Thomas
High Speed Detachable Quad.

The Keystone to todays Lowell T Opening is Trail #67, Lowell Thomas itself.
Sector access is via this one principle route, except for Banzai and
Marie-Claude Asselin that have access from the(descending) Left side
of the Duncan Quad Summit station.

Conditions Caveat:
This Opening scenario could be subject to changes that
we are not aware of due to highly dynamic factors of
any new sector openings, so it is possible you could
see “More” or “Less”, as the day goes on, depending on
Ski Patrol permissions for safe utility of any of the trails
discussed in todays Opening.

That is one of the reasons we feature the Info.Ski Crews
(as pictured above) so much, they are always the best
people to consult with if there are questions or concerns.

Weather Notes:

Today, mild, easy, wonderful, early winter with some sun!

Tomorrow... Our prediction is messy in town and all other
ground level areas, but with this very close to Zero and
the consequent sub-Zero’s we expect at elevations, potentially
SNOW on the Mountain!

Conditions Notes:

We expect further refinements across the entire Groomed trail list
that should be the product of more light, dry snowfall yesterday,
plus another night-shift of grooming.

It should be fast, with excellent traction.

Above And Below:
Here are 2 samples from Versant Sud, South Side, Summit Level
Taschereau. They are both from the day before yesterday, when
we last had clear long vision there. The trail itself is in really good
shape for Opening. It’s wall-to-wall, very little in the way of icy bits,
but it can have some traffic related slick areas by later in the day.
All things considered, an excellent “Expert” Black rated trail that’s
also a local favourite.

Otherwise...

The newly Opened Lowell Thomas terrain may have
natural hazards due to still early season accumulations
that are not yet at full winter depths. Extreme care and
very slow cautious exploration speeds are essential for
safe passage and minimizing damage risk to your Skis
or Board bases.

Not all of the new terrain is groomed, and those un-groomed
areas are not supported with snowmaking, so those portions
may have the highest hazard possibilities.

Use your head and explore responsibly.

You may have noticed the rather “Grey” or "Black and White”
look to photography over the past week? That is real, due to
basically, overcast and snowing, or trying to snow, on Mountain
elevations for that entire time. Fine with us... It’s early and we need
the snow coverage, so it’s a happy problem to work with, but beautiful
in its own way too. No camera can capture these scenes accurately
and we want to encourage all who can to get out for these
magically snowy winter days that have all had fabulous skiing.

The Lowell Thomas Sector Opening Is Big News Every Year...

but... this year especially important with the new lift. We hope to
see you out on the slopes exploring the rapid access you can
now have to some of the most naturally snowy sectors at Tremblant!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
