12/3/18 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Late Evening Apres Ski Edit @ 10:46 P.M.

There Were Some Of The Best Carving Trail Surfaces
Of The Season So Far...

So, anybody who could have been here,
but made another choice, made the wrong decision.

Fresh overnight snowfall bonded with the semi-warm, humid,
substrates, as they were cooling down with the falling thermometer.

The result was an excellent “Buffer” layer that vastly reduced
any of the “Slick” or “Icy” potential that normally occurs with
temps. that are heading down to well below Zero C.

The return to lower temps was emphasized by the wind
that amplifies any ambient “Cool” signal. Once you were off
the Summit though, those “Breezes” were not that apparent
and the thrill of so much lateral turning grip for Rocket-Fast
carving completely distracted you once you were moving.

There are visitors from all over the Region, and all
over the World, at Tremblant right now.

Snowmaking is back into high-gear production. This is only
one sample, but an important one, as it represents part of the prep.
work that will be providing lots of freshly Opening Terrain for
all the regular folks out for a day on the slopes while the
24Hour Children’s Charity Marathon Event is on this coming
weekend.

Newly Opened terrain from back last weekend is now
receiving some very well executed grooming refinements.
Some of the debris/hazard zones have been reduced, and
the speed is all there for some really thrilling performance.

Tomorrow: Daytime high temp forecast at -6C under bright sun?
Really??? “Sunny” has been forecast several times in recent days,
nothing beyond momentary glimpses have occurred, so we’ll be
happy to have it now that the temps are low enough to offset
any solar energy hitting the slopes. All that and another night-shift
of grooming should get us the possibility of another day with
“Best Of” conditions within the mix.

The cool has firmed the base up, so even with all the new snow,
good, sharp, Ski/Board edges are very beneficial assets for harnessing
turning energy.

Please Note: Summit-To-Base Ski Out On Both Sectors.

Despite an inconvenient “Damp” day yesterday that was mostly
a non-erosive, sleety mix, Mother Nature has corrected that with
a return to lower temps, and...

It’s Snowing Hard At Tremblant This Morning.

Regardless of atmospheric factors, the Alpine Skiing Trail
Network at Tremblant has enjoyed exceptional and FAST
conditions, each and every day.

What we may tend to take for granted is the “Winter” in
the weather when it is actually still “Fall” until Dec. 21, but...
Once again we are lucky enough to get through a really small
one-day blip, it’s snowing, and we’re now on a projected weather
trend of downward sliding temps for the region that should be a
major factor in reasserting those stable “Winter” conditions for at
least the next 10 days or so.

From the standpoint of this journal...

Outdoor Photography has been extremely challenging
with many days of overcast and precipitation that
reduce light, contrast and definition. The airborne
precipitation with wind that instantly smears lens
is especially challenging and often makes camera
deployment impractical. We apologize for the lack
of detail in many of the images, but we want to
emphasize just how spectacularly beautiful even
the “Grey” days have been. No camera on Earth can
adequately capture the surreal beauty of the intimate
side of early Winter at Tremblant. The pic below is less
than 36 hours old and it’s what you could have surrounded
yourself with at Tremblant for the last 10 days or so...

Weather Notes:

Dropping temps back into a “Winter” type pattern for this week
should help Mountain Crews get a reboot in Opening Terrain
development, particularly with snowmaking. We all appreciate
the snowy benefits of the weather so far, but many will be looking
forward to the “Sunny” part of this forecast with the gorgeous
panoramic views!

Conditions Notes:

Thank Goodness It’s Snowing... as temp's drop.
Without snow, dropping temps would probably end up with
very firm, and some icy substrates, however, with snow...
those refreezing substrates have an automatically bonding
cushion that forms a beautiful buffer between the softest
new snow top layers and the inherently dense base.
This is the perfect way to transition back to “Winter”
performance for all Skill Level Rated Terrain.

Consequently we are forecasting a high degree of
grip, traction and easy control.

If there are any cautionary considerations, they would
be in converging traffic zones such as trail run-outs,
at or around trail intersections, or just below crests onto
steeper pitches. These are all examples of concentrated
traffic wear that can expose slick or icy bits after many
hours.

The best way to go is to try to observe patterns and
proactively reduce speed in anticipation of safe descent.

Page under construct. Sorry for very late
posting, however we continue to experience
challenges with new operating systems and
formatting. Thanks for your visit and patience!

For future readers here who may be researching Early
Season Conditions in order to book reservations, this year
will be an example of very close to ideal. For those readers
who are considering last minute plans for a discretionary visit
now, i.e., “Should we take a few days and go Skiing at Tremblant
before Christmas?”, the answer could only be “Yes, Go, Go, Go!"

Bottom Line Is: Tremblant has had remarkable
consistency in very early and pronounced “Winter”
at the end of Fall. With Summit-To-Base access
on both Sud, South and Nord, North since Opening
Day, its only the third time in 80 years of history
for these exceptional starting conditions, that are
worthy of every effort you can make to go skiing!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
