A Sunday morning Skiers editorial...

One strategy for today could be...

Look For “Sweet Spots” That Work Like This:

Then Stick With Them...

The reason we suggest that is because there should be a constant
balance Skiers try to achieve between two of the main modes
typical of a day on the slopes, but one might offer considerably
more chances at making you a better Skier.

The first is the quest for enjoyment on terrain that
provides the positive physical engagement that is
not only fun, but provides the sense of technical
accomplishment that performing well generates
within the individual participant’s psyche.

The second is the distinctly different, but also satisfying
experience that exploration generates, even though
exploring does not always yield performance satisfaction
for the simple reason that not everywhere you explore
freshly is going to be as good as where you may have
already been.

Ultimately, experience has shown that performing very well
on select terrain is more rewarding than performing at a
mediocre level on random terrain, especially on Ski days where
recent weather has created unique and distinct sweet spots and
may also have created unique and distinct not so sweet spots.

In that regard, the skill lies in being able to observe the patterns
the Mountain exhibits each morning, then focusing on the zones
with the highest probabilities of performance quality you can work
with and stick with them. In other words, if you want to be a better
Skier, go for performance quality not terrain quantity?

Below: By identifying and working repetitively with terrain you
can use to be better with, you’re doing the very same thing
all Coaches and Ski Instructors already know, practice
on familiar terrain allows you to improve at a rapid pace.

Otherwise...

This is “Day 2” of what we might technically refer to as a
“Post-Thermal” event. As such, it should represent a substantial
refinement in Open, Groomed Terrain across all skill level
rated slopes due to a return to sustained 24hr. Sub-Zero C
temps, and the results of the Grooming Night-Shift.

The term “refinement” applies to both the overall square
surface area and the top layers of loose crystalline snow
that facilitate a higher overall degree of user-friendly
ski/board performance characteristics within each of the
Green, Blue and Black rated Trail challenges.

A moderate enhancement should be apparent with the
addition of a small natural snowfall component that is
part of the blended final grooming product. What we have
found over years of observation is that it is surprising
how much even a very small amount of natural snow
can render into the final grooming. If that is the case
today you should find a less granular, more silky feel
of smoothness which also has a quieter, almost buffered
performance quality underfoot.

The degrees of “All Day” durability may be directly related to
pitch angle steepness and traffic, so it is likely that the Green
rated terrain should retain the most consistency in soft top
layers, followed by the Blue, then the Black.

Weather Notes:

There are 2 important facets to the today and tomorrow
factors in this forecast. For today, especially with the
coolness of the morning, it’s the calm winds. Any amount
of “Cool” is far, far easier to handle with no wind.
For tomorrow, the latest update here has the daytime
high reduced by one degree C which you might not
think is much, but when it was only -1C to begin
with, it is a move in the right direction that should
contribute to the retention of any new snow that comes
between now and then.

As noted herein below, the dimensions of this storm system
are not completely predictable. Of course a “Blizzard”, even
a good ole’ “Snowstorm” would be super beneficial now, so
we’re keeping fingers crossed for any of that.

Conditions Notes:

“Getting Better Every Day”... That’s what happens when the
temps stay Sub-Zero C stable on a 24hr basis, over a multi-day
period. That’s what we’re working with right now, so what we
expect is a daily quality increase in the scope of Groomed conditions.
Any new snow is going to not only enhance the groomed, but
critically important now, the Sous Bois, Glade, Hors Piste and
all other un-groomed which will respond quickly to the accumulations
the storm system described in today’s Weather Notes may potentially
contain.

The best tools for the job from an overall perspective are
still the sharpest, freshest edges you can bring on either Skis
or Board. There are slick or icy elements in the base that are
most evident on steeper pitches or in high traffic zones where
trails converge or intersect.

This is the long New Years Holiday weekend, so there may be lots
of Beginners and Guests new to the area so you need to be mindful
of your surroundings at all times by scanning constantly for those
who can make sudden or unpredictable directional or speed changes
without any notice at all.

Page under construction, but with
the potential of “Big Snow” for later
today, the prospects for the immediate
future are looking up!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
