Just in time for the last day of the Xmas/New Year Holiday period,
more snow and quite nearly fully Open @ 100/102.

The continuing snow in the trees is all the evidence you
need to know that yesterdays slight “+” C, of a couple
of degrees at the Sud, South Resort Base, had no effect
at Mountain Elevations. This is far more than just the
overnight snow, it is snow that has been there for days.
It is completely uninsulated and is very fragile and short
lived at any “+”, above freezing temps, so it’s visibility in this
sunrise/daylight Web Cam Composite panorama is a wonderfully
reassuring sight.
There is also a beneficially positive drop in the temp’s today
that will help to stabilize the overall conditions when
the Versant Sud, South Side base level temps have
been quite close, even touching, Zero C. That is another
very good thing.
On another interesting note, we’ve had the question asked
“What about Algonquin?"
"Conspicuous By It’s Absence” is an expression used to
explain the significance of an element within a total
system that is not counted, included, visible, or part
of the systems functional components at the time of
examination.
By that very generalized definition...
The final piece of the “Fully Open" scenario is arguably the
ultimate “Canary In The Coal Mine” , Versant Soleil Trail #95,
Algonquin. This is the reason there is mathematically a greater
percentage of Open Trails compared to Open Terrain even though
there are only 2 missing trails. Algonquin is so large by square area
that this one trail can represent a very large factor in the percentage
of Open Terrain. Algonquin is also one of the most sensitive trails
to natural snowfall so it is not uncommon to have it as one of the
final links in the complete terrain/trail array. Algonquin also has
one other unique characteristic which is that it is a trail that has
no lateral exit point along its entire length, so there is no way in
or out along its path that can facilitate partial use. That makes it
an even larger indicator of total Mountain terrain status because
its opening indicates the entire Summit-To-Base accumulations
are sufficient.

Weather Notes:
In addition to the stabilizing effects of toady’s
dropping temp’s, there is natural snowfall forecast
for the next 4 days straight. In view of the commentary
above relating to Tremblant “Fully Open” status, that
could be the missing link.

Today will be very fine due to more snow and dropping
daytime temps, but tonights very cool low in the minus
20’s C has a very high probability of cryogenically “cooking"
any humidity out of the top layers with the “Freeze-Drying”
effect.
Not only are conditions excellent across the entire Skill
Level array now, but there is considerable potential for
elevating seasonal “Best Of” quality levels in the immediate
future.
If you’re arriving from far away, you’re in great shape.
If you can “Escape To Ski” from anywhere regionally,
make all the excuses you need to starting right now,
and leave for Tremblant ASAP.
