Thank Goodness For North... as in Latitude.
again...

For the second morning in a row, while more southerly
regional areas around Killington, Stowe, et al., get freezing
rain and rain, Tremblant’s northerly latitude is once again
just enough to put us on the “Winter” side of the freezing mark.
Of course, at close to the freezing mark that can all change to
snow as is forecast, but the preference would be to have no wet
in any transitional weather patterns.

Even though it’s only by a handful of degrees, “Just Below”
Zero C/32F, is all the permission Mother Nature has needed to
make snow instead of rain here, and all Tremblant guest are
getting that benefit now.

We know this happens, but it’s not just us observing it. We
hear it on the lifts often enough from our American cousins
who come up from the New England region to Ski Tremblant...
“We want winter and we know from experience that a Ski
Week here is less likely to have rainy days.” This is a common
refrain we hear repeated. Statistically, the reason this is
a supportable conclusion is that by recorded meteorological
data, Killington for example, only has one month per year
with an average daily temp of below 32F/Zero C(Jan.).
Tremblant has three(Dec., Jan., Feb.). Our observation is
that this is regionally most critical for time periods of very
close to freezing when only a handful, literally within 5
degrees, either above or below, can make all the difference
during any Ski Season week.

Regardless of annual snowfall totals, we think it is the ability
of any Mountain to retain snow with uninterrupted Sub-zero C/32F
sequential days that makes a big difference in the consistency
of conditions, especially front-side groomed, and today is a
highlight of that point.

Weather Notes:

The interesting part of this day is going to be the relative
calm winds that should eventually swing around from the
South to Nor-West and increasing considerably in velocity.
That shift is forecast to also bring another round of fresh
snow as the evening begins.

Today and tomorrow mark the end of a warm snowy period
after which it’s forecast to become more like “January” as
temps drop into daytime highs in the -Teen’s C, with some
bright, sunny days in sequence.

Conditions Notes:

Todays conditions notes are specifically addressed to those
who may be thinking about sneaking in some mid-January
“Escape To Ski” days. If you can get outta’ town and head
for Tremblant, you should be rewarded by some “So Far
Seasons Best” conditions that are going to feature the currently
forecasted cool temp’s and the resulting Cryogenically “Cooked”
natural snow surfaces that we think should have rocket-fast,
super-carve performance qualities.

All the snow falling now has internal humidity levels
associated with temps just below Zero C, but when
Mother Nature steps in with a shot of “Freeze Drying”,
this humidity generally gets virtually eliminated
and what we are typically left with is some of the
sweetest, glitch free smooth, fast, white winter magic
snow that is wonderful across all Skill Level rated
terrain. An additional bonus every single morning
should be the refinement through repeated night-shift
grooming cycles that we think are going to yield
better compaction with impeccable traction. You will
need to be prepared for the cool mornings, but temps
should rise quickly each day.

The Essence Of Truly “Cool”, Snow White Winter Performance
Is Coming Right Up!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
