102/102(*) Open Trails on 100% #Tremblant .
KKKkkkkool, Krisp, Klear, ’n Kwick!
These are the kind of conditions that make you
look good. When there are extended numbers
of days of well below zero C, the repeated
overnight grooming cycles simply add refinement
to the already great base where the level of uniformity
covers virtually the entire Mountain.
Within the specifics of Green, Blue and Black rated
trail/terrain challenge, there is typically an increasing
level of forgiveness in these sweet days of pure
winter, so when confident Beginners and Intermediates
are appropriately warmed up after “First Tracks”,
it’s often a good time to begin exploring trails with
a bit more difficulty. Pushing the boundaries of
personal skills gets a lot easier with surface quality
this consistent between one level and the next.
Weather Notes:
It’s the final morning of this little “Cold Snap” series
of days, so at -25C(6:17a.m.), Sud, South Base Level,
you will need to bundle up, for sure.
It’s going to be “January”, so you can expect to see
the remainder of the month with the Up’s ’n Down’s,
of a very stable sub-zero c pattern. We rejoice in that
due to the consistency of the base that at this rate,
is going to go on for weeks of exceptional quality.

Conditions Notes:
The Skiing and Boarding should be excellent across
the entire array of open terrain, however...
Cold Weather Caveat: Initial cold temps
require zero exposed skin and 100% attention
to seals, overlaps and the complete absence of
gaps in any exterior layers. This is critically
important with children. Allow for descent
forward airspeed as a component of the net
windchill factor.
Notwithstanding the temp’s...
In the Groomed: Excellence is everywhere.
As a default, if you match actual skill levels
with rated terrain challenge, you will have
a great day. Period. If you are exploring
beyond your current comfort level, choose
trails groomed before you try mogul runs
in order to become familiar with additional
steepness first.
In the Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste, Un-Groomed:
There are still a la Carte natural hazards, but the
glitches are usually obvious because its been a while
since it snowed, so it’s not like there’s a white camo
blanket over everything. Of course “Trees” are always
worth missing, and the best way to ensure you don’t
pick up an unintended load of “Toothpicks” is to keep
speed in the bush under total and complete control
at all times, erring on the slow side to make recoveries
easier. The Sous Bois shadows can be a bit challenging,
especially with the dips and hollows around the trees
and topographical features where “Grey Areas” can
be deep snow in one place, and 3 metres away, a big
dip that can toss you around, so our recommendation
for slow speeds Hors Piste is absolutely appropriate
for maximum safety.
