---------- Late Morning, 11:30 A.M. Updates Posted Below ------------------

The Skiing should be fabulous as the round the clock grooming
marathon that started Thursday Apres Ski, wraps up this morning.
That grooming marathon features one of the very largest possible
indicators of seasonal maturity as shown below.

We featured it yesterday morning when it first appeared, and then
again, in last night’s Apres Ski, so you may ask...

Why are you spending so much time
focused on this little, out of the way
trail that many, if not most average
recreational skiers here never see or
hear of?

The answer is... Because it is one of,
if not the best example of:

- “A Canary in the coal mine”,
-“The icing on the cake”,
-“A small detail that makes a big difference”,
-“A benchmark of quality”,
- “A symbol of attainment”,
- "An ultimate finishing touch”,
- “The final piece of the puzzle”...

...All of which is due to this unique occasion when
it is groomed for the first time in the season.

Important Repeats from last night’s Apres Ski:

"When You See Versant Nord, North Side Trail #66 Le Tunnel
on the Groomed List for the first time in the season, you KNOW
there’s a new level of refinement that can only come from
Tons of Great Winter Snow!"

"Le Tunnel is not a popular trail with “Mainstream” recreational
Skiers/Boarders. For decades it has typically been known as a
mogul run that could chew up your quads and turn them into
jello. It was rarely, if ever, groomed. With the advent of the
“Super-Season” snowfall accumulations in the past, recent
seasons, suddenly we found Le Tunnel groomed, and with that
development, in our eyes, it immediately jumped into a leading
indicator of the ultimate seasonal refinement within not only
the Versant Nord, North Side Lowell Thomas Sector, but for the
whole Mountain.”

Here’s an action shot from roughly the same POV as above,
but we’ve cooked up the contrast, white balance, definition,
highlights, exposure and brightness in order to show trail
surface detail when there's so much in the way of airborne snow filters.

In our opinion, this person descending has it absolutely perfect
with these very short radius, “Old School” parallel turns that
are essentially a series of alternating Left and Right “Hockey Stop”
turns that are super-easy to do for the whole descent. With this
trail in this beautifully smooth, soft, sweet shape, we would not hesitate
to take a confident Intermediate with well practiced “Hockey Stop”
abilities on this trail. The pitch is near perfect when it’s so smooth,
and a few practice runs here will make you a better technical skier.

Repeats Continued:
"Basically... When there’s enough snow to groom Le Tunnel, you
can generally count on all of Tremblant being excellent. It does
not have any snowmaking support, it relies purely on natural snowfall,
so the attainment of sufficient accumulation to groom it means that
where the same snowfall is integrated with snowmaking on all the
“Mainstream” trails, they are all fabulous."

Weather Notes:

At 7:50 A.M., it’s -25 C at the Old Village of Mt. Tremblant, adjacent to
the Resort Base, so definitely a chilly start, however, so-far, very light winds.
The projected daytime high is at -16 C, and that should be reasonably
easy to handle if those breezes stay light, and the sun actually comes out.

At this stage, it’s sort of an overcast with hints of brightness, but
no direct sunshine yet. There are tinges of blue up there in the
thinest portions of the clouds, so we’re hopeful those may become
the dominant sky feature later on.

Conditions Notes:

Considering that the whole Mountain went from
-20’s C, to Zero C with some “Damp” in there in
places, then back to -20’s C, all within about 48hrs,
everything is really good. Fortunately, almost
all the Open Terrain except the bottom third or so,
remained winter, and even got more snow throughout
the entire down/up/down cycle, so that, plus the
outstanding grooming job has rendered out virtually
all of the warm effects.

For today then, it’s “Cryo-Snow”, as in Cryogenic Super-Cool,
“Squeaky” when you walk over it, pure winter snow that
where groomed, has some of the finest performance quality
you may ever ski within each respective Green, Blue or Black
rated trails.

The Sous Bois has already recovered to a large extent, although
there are lingering zones of crust under new fallen snow where
it has not been broken top by previous traffic, so be careful if
you are breaking trail Hors Piste.

--------------- Late Morning Updates @ 11:30 A.M. ------------------

The Sun is certainly shining brightly at Tremblant now.
The cloudy conditions seemed to disappear quickly, and
all that remains is a slight linear haze line above the left
side of the frame below.

Continuing to look at the left side of the above, you will see
the F.I.S. World Cup Mogul Course on Flying Mile.

Below is a zoom-in from the same Old Mt. T. Village hillside.
If you look closely, you can see a competitor on course,
just below the top jump on the left hand side of the course.

The way we understand it, there is Broadcast Television Via CBC
Sports for this event, so you should be able to search your local
Cable menu to find the televised schedule.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
