1/30/19 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Late Evening Apres Ski Edit Under Construct @ 11:07 P.M.

A Glorious, Classic, Tremblant Winter Day.

And, as you can see from the snow
whisking along the surface, a wee bit breezy...

In The Groomed:

The technical merits of the Tremblant ski experience
continue to exhibit excellence within each of the Green,
Blue and Black rated trail categories.

However, If there is a point of restriction for Mountain users,
it is that with so much new snow, there is some softness in
each of the Green, Blue and Black groomed terrain that does
not lend itself to “Forgiveness”. This is in the sense that surface
thickness can be challenging for edge release if steepness
exceeds skills necessary to execute precise control. The net
effect is that it is necessary to match actual skills with rated terrain.

In this shot taken on Versant Soleil, Green Trail # 95, Algonquin
this afternoon, you can see the groomed trail centre is a beautiful
learning surface, the edges however, would present thickness
requiring a skill set of higher expertise. Much of that edge thickness
you can see, came delivered by the wind during the day. Early
morning was quite well groomed and you can see that below
in a T360 Fan submitted pic. we posted this morning.

Beginners, Intermediates, and Experts will all have excellent days,
but it is not the right day to take your Intermediate friends on
Black Diamond Trail # 94, La Griffe, for one example. The big
soft moguls there are legitimate “Expert” challenge.

Tonights Grooming Cycle should go a long way towards
compacting the initial Post Snowstorm spongy softness
into firmer top layers, so the probability is that tomorrow
will see a substantial increase in the optimization of
groomed surface density, and with that, some additional
speed, because your skis are just not going to encounter
as much frontal softness. Of course, this is a great problem
that comes with so much snow in such a short time and
the fix is already happening, so Guests should be patient
for a day or two as Crews sort out all the areas that need
attention.

In The Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste, Un-Groomed:

There has Been 1 Metre of Natural Snowfall
in 10 days!

There are great powder lines still undiscovered. The feedback
we’ve gotten is most positive on the Edge Sector Glades.

The temps were not that cold, but the wind could work the cool
into small gaps, so you just had to be careful to having outer
layers well secured.

This shot below illustrates 2 ways to stay comfortable, i.e.,
take frequent inside breaks as necessary, and for a bit of
warmth between runs, use the Gondola occasionally for
getting back up to the Summit. There was a perceptible
amount of “Greenhouse” heat in the Gondola cabins today,
enough that after the 8 minute ride up you might even
begin to feel a bit too warm!

Looking ahead at tomorrow, we see Sun, a few degrees
cooler, and a west wind, so rising up the Mountain over
Beauvallon and McCulloch, and crossing the Summit towards
P’tit Bonheur or Duncan, respectively.

Scroll down to the “Weather Notes” for the hourly temps’
up to First Tracks in the morning.

The practice you had in staying snug today should
help you to understand what you’ll need to do for
tomorrow.

102/102(*) Open Trails on the Super-Snowy Slopes of #Tremblant .

Another Overnight 20cms!

As a matter of local context:

Today, CNN Reports 200,000,000 Million U.S.
Citizens Are Affected By The Current Polar Vortex.
Apparently it’s the coldest ever recorded temperature
for Chicago? Add in the entire population of Canada
@ 37,000,000 Million and you’ve got 237,700,000
Million North American people affected by the weather
today.

However... It’s actually pretty easy here at Tremblant,
and, it looks really easy for at least the next 2 weeks!

Weather Notes:

Locally, we don’t think either the regional or continental
context are going to be particularly concerning to Tremblant
Guests or Regulars who are going to look at this and think
it’s pretty easy compared to some of the cool days we’ve
already been through.

There’s nothing “Scary” in any of this forecast, maybe even
“Warm” by what we’ve gotten used to?

you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
