2/2/19 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski Intro. @ 11:13 P.M.
(For more Apres Ski, please scroll
down to “Reply” posted below.)

It snowed at Tremblant all day.
There were places on Versant Nord,
the North Side, that got 40 cm’s drift lines.

(We think the Official total may be in the 25cm’s +/- Range?)

Above:
We are going to call this pic. “Photo-Art”, because
it was highly distorted by snowfall filters that
generated soft focus, off-kilter contrast and
lost definition, but... it’s 100% accurate in
representing the kind of mega-snowy day it was.

One can only conclude that we are in a season of above
average snowfall for this date and that fact goes a long
way to explaining the overall excellence of Tremblant today.

It’s also all the motivation you should need to...
Go Skiing At Tremblant If You Can!

Above:
The snow you see above has had slightly higher relative friction
which we think is due to the overnight low temps it came in.
From a utility standpoint all it meant was that you could face the
fall line more directly and descend under a higher level of control
on steeper pitches. The fact that the base is virtually ice free
provides a level of confidence for spontaneous line changes
over the length and breadth of pitches that when combined
with the little extra resistance, really allows you to explore
the limits of the turning force you can make. This comes with
a complete sense of security in the ability of your edges to maintain
grip with any change in turn shape or direction.

Below:
The net effect was that you could see people playing with
their own ability limits. This shot below taken from the
TGV Quad rising over the Summit pitch of McCulloch clearly
shows the skier maximizing edge-set grip and harnessing
tremendous turning energy under total and absolute control.
This person literally carved the whole McCulloch Summit pitch.
The realization of all the fun in that is the clearly visible smile
of delight he has in the experience of the moment that is completely
spontaneous. This shot is totally random, we did not stage it
in any way, we don’t know the person, we were simply riding up
TGV, and were in the right place at the right time to capture the
essence of the joy anyone with the skills could have, all day at Tremblant.

Weather Notes:

In addition to the fact that it is snowing heavily
at Tremblant right now...

We are absolutely thrilled to see the return of Lower
Forecast temps for early this coming week. We had
lots of feedback concern expressed about what next
weeks forecast had been showing for warmer, but with
the current trend showing cooler, we hope that holds,
especially for the potential of precipitation as snow.

Conditions Notes:

All Parameters Of "Fabulous Feb. 1, 2019 Ski Conditions!”
Extended To Feb. 2, 2019.

The main functional differences for today may be an
increased amount of glide or speed in the groomed
trails with the rising temp's. Even then though, the
newly falling snow could offset that if enough comes,
so it really may end up being an “a la Carte” day of
unique characteristics.

We think there is going to be a very high degree of
Forgiveness in the surfaces that may make it a safe day
to explore new challenges. Slightly warmer may mean
slightly softer, together with some new snow falling,
all have the combined potential to render an extraordinary
day of flexible access across all skill level terrain.

We think one of the highlights of today will be “Easy”
for everyone from Beginner to Expert.

Above (#1):
Even with the Mountain 100% Open, guests new to the area
will benefit from consultations with the Tremblant “Info.Ski”
crews on any day like today, simply because thick, heavy falling
snow is a visually disorientating filter-blanket over everything
and everywhere, so their guidance is the quickest way to get
pointed in the right direction for either specific trails or general
recommendations for matched terrain for your skill level.

Above (#2):

The Info.Ski Crews above are proudly standing in front of the
new Lowell Thomas, High Speed, Detachable Quad Chairlift
and we want to comment on how absolutely wonderful it is
to have this excellent new addition. It is now possible to do
laps anywhere within the Lowell Thomas Sector served by
this Quad within 8 minutes because the ride up is less than
half of what the old fixed Triple Chair it replaced. This has
allowed previously impossible utility in this sector that gets
dumped on with Natural Snow on days like today. It’s Fantastic!

It’s not much of a panoramic Post Card, but we are happy
to share this snapshot that captures todays visit from YGK,
Kingston, Ontario, Tremblant Fans. You’re officially part of
this history record now!

Below:
It is often the case that the weather that contributes
the most snow, is the weather that’s most challenging
for photography, and today was no exception.
It is a problem we are overjoyed to have, but it does
not get you a lot of fancy action shots or panoramic’s,
when the reasons are clear to see why we can’t clearly see!

Due to the combination of new snow, tonights grooming
shift, and tomorrows slightly warmer temp’s @ -9C, we think
there is every good reason to project “Best Of Season So-Far”
conditions for Feb. 3, 2019!
