2/3/19 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Middle of the Night-Shift Apres Ski Edit @2:44 A.M.

If you are a legitimate Expert, it was one of the best days of the season
so-far.

The main reason for that is the exceptional early February
natural snow accumulations. We can tell you for a fact
that there are Drift-in Powder Snow lines within the Open
Terrain that are over 160 cm’s deep.

Looking at the snow itself helps to understand how it’s
keeping so much “Loft”, or packing resistant looseness.
This Macro POV is a zoom-in over the edge of the snow
from the ski on the right. This is a very big crystal that
has low internal humidity and keeps a bit of “Spongy”
softness with initial packing.

If you are an Intermediate, confidently working Skill Levels up, it was a
great technical skiing learning day due to some surface softness that is
completely natural and normal when so much new snow comes so quickly.

Below is one example of a constricted area that morph’d into quite
a little mogul zone at the top entrance to Rope Tow. Everyone needed
to be careful here as the low contrast, overcast light made it more
difficult to see the shapes, so low speeds were critical to safe navigation.
This was a pattern common to converging trail intersections, so
it is an example of how you could safely anticipate similar situations
elsewhere and proactively reduce speed when you see them coming up.

If you are a Beginner, it was still a great day on select Super-Smooth
groomed terrain, the most notable samples of which were Nansen and
the P’tit Bonheur to Beauchemin Bas, Lower circuits.

All things considered, it was a privilege to have such an excellent
all natural abundance of snow, but in its sheer volume, it did create
extra challenge for less confident Beginners and Intermediates
and less forgiveness for experimenting with steeper terrain for
Beginners especially.

It will take another night shift of grooming to get additional
compaction, so Monday morning should see an expansion
of optimized trail surface density.

As far as the weekend Sunday crowds, no doubt, it was a busy
morning, but right around the 1:00 P.M. mark, the exodus began
to take place and there was a steady stream of heavy traffic on
the move from that point on. Absolutely typical for Super-Bowl Sunday.

The huge wild-card is the weather forecast that’s calling for
snow changing to freezing rain by the end of Monday Open hours,
so we’re holding our breath to see if at the indicated -1C for the
Resort Base, there could maybe be a longer duration of snow
over cooler Mountain elevations.

Today Is Going To Be Great, Because...

Basically, It Snowed Like This All Day Yesterday.

So, We Think Today Could Be One Of The Best Days Of The Season So-Far.

The reasons are:

-362 cm’s/12 feet, of recorded Natural Snowfall, Season-to-date.
-Over 1 metre of that Snowfall in the last 2 weeks.
-A month of uninterrupted Sub-Zero C Temps on the Mountain.
-A Month of Grooming Rotational Refinement across the entire
array of regularly groomed trails.
-A Month of uninterrupted Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste
accumulations.
-Yesterday's light, dry, Super-Cool, atmospherically formed
Powder Snow.
-Very Easy(compared to recent -20’s), Winter Daytime Temp’s @ -11C.
-More Natural Snowfall forecast for today.
-OPEN HOURS EXTENDED TO 3:45 this weekend = extra 2 runs,
if you know what you’re doing with timing.

Additional, Potential Utility Bonus For Afternoon Guests:

Today is the “Super-Bowl Time/Space Dis-continuum” where we
have observed a typical behaviour where the Mountain seems
to start emptying out at between 11:00 A.M. and 1:30 P.M.,
as rabid Football Sports Fans vacate any and all public domains
in order to gather in front of Big-Screen TV’s to watch the
Super-Bowl and eat more nacho’s, and drink more beer, than
any other single day of the year. This may or may not happen
to any degree, however experience shows more often than not.

Otherwise...

The Official Snowfall Total is registered at only 3 cm’s(?)
for some reason, however we can tell you for a fact
that there were accumulations physically happening
Per-Hour, that were far in excess of that. We’re not
sure why there’s such a difference, but none-the-less,
the snow is on the ground and if you are here today,
we think you’ll agree that there is a lot more than the
daily total indicates.

Below:
Here is a repeat from last night’s Apres Ski, slightly zoomed,
slightly cropped, and slightly phuzzy snow-filtered focus,
sample of near-blizzard zonally localized snowfall that is
100% accurate regarding the Ski/Board experience of the
moment.

(?)You don’t get scenes like this with only 3 cm’s of total
snowfall, and yesterday in the Lowell Thomas Sector
below the Summit, at this time, mid-afternoon, it was
more like 3-5 cm’s per hour.

If You Are New To Tremblant...

The Tremblant “Info.Ski” Crews pictured below, are all
Super-Friendly and Super-Helpful at pointing you in the
right way when it’s so snowy you can’t see clearly beyond
10 Metres, about 40 feet(or any other time you’ve got questions).

Sorry for the overwhelming snow-filters in this one. Camera
could not compensate for snow in 10 feet, let alone 10 metres,
and all those white streaks you see were only the big ones!

The other point we want to draw your attention to, especially
when there’s so much new snow here, is the brand new this
season “Lowell Thomas” High Speed Quad Chairlift, that the
Info.Ski crews are standing in front of, above. This excellent
upgrade now allows 8 minute circuits within the entire Lowell
Thomas Sector. The “phuzzy” “Banzai” Trail photo, second above,
is within this domain and when there are too many powder lines
to count, doing 8 minute laps here is fantastic and almost Ski-Heaven!

Weather Notes:

Excellent, Mild-Winter Conditions for Open Hours
today and tomorrow with More Snow!

Apres Ski tomorrow may be a different story as those
pesky “Freezing Rainy” Icons are back in the forecast
for Monday night. Up/Down/Up forecasting at or near
Zero C, has too many “Wild Card” elements to be sure,
but we’re hoping for “Down” temp’s to come back and
bring snow with them.

Conditions Notes:

Beginners and Intermediates:

An abundance of deep, fresh snow, even as light and dusty
dry as this newest snow is, can generate some tracked up
thickness that adds challenge to control movement inputs.

This is entirely normal and will be least evident on Green
Groomed trails such as Nansen and P’tit Bonheur.

It can take up to a couple of overnight grooming cycles to
render out ideal compaction rates, but the regularly groomed
main boulevard trails should all be the quickest to respond
with surface density.

The steeper the terrain, the more likely to build moguls
with traffic today.

This is definitely a day to have matched skills to posted
difficulties and there may be superseding, hand posted,
uniquely localized, Trail signage put in place by the Ski Patrol.
Obey all Hand Posted signage and if you have friends out
today that are not as good as you, look out for them, keep
them safe, and don’t let them take risks that are inappropriate
for the conditions.

Experts:

WWWWWAAAHHOOOOOO !!!! Go Crazy with FUN!

But... Always in a responsible manner, please and thank you.

they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
