2/5/19 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Early Evening Apres Ski Intro.Edit @ 7:08 P.M.

No One(well, maybe a few that also own sharp Slalom Race Skis),
will believe us when we tell you how good and how much fun it
was at Tremblant today.

Anyone that owns, and knows how to use, a Recreational or FIS Slalom Ski,
will know exactly how good a day it was at Tremblant, where real Experts were
carving up a Short Radius, Front-Side storm with smiles from ear-to-ear.

If you had the right Skis, today at Tremblant was like driving
a Ferrari at the Race Track. So fast, and so much high speed
traction, we could barely contain our joy. Tremblant Mountain Op’s
groomed out exceptional conditions after such whacky weather, and
delivered astounding lateral grip when many people were expecting
it to be icy.

To be fair, it was very firm, even solid, but for all intents and
purposes, not “Icy”, but just really super solid, very, very dense,
highly compacted snow, and you needed edges as sharp as a
scalpel. If you had the right gear, you could “Grip And Rip”
on virtually every groomed run that was open at Tremblant today.

Another “Gem" of a day for those who are prepared.

If you had dull edges, or floppy, wet noodle “Consumer” skis
from the “Big Box-Co. Discount Sale Rack”, you would have
thought it was icy. These are some of the same people who think
“All Season” tires are good for winter.

Definitely a day where the right tools get you a phenomenal
Ski experience, but at the same time, crazy-easy for Beginners
on slopes like La Passe and Nansen Bas that are superb runways
of gentle smoothness.

There Actually Was Some Blue Sky!!!

The Open Trail List Got Reduced for
safety and/or strategic resource management.

Below:
Whenever you’re at Tremblant before, during, after,
any major weather event, you should be checking with
the Tremblant Info.Ski Crews. They are based mostly
out of the Summit, but work over the entire Mountain,
so if you can see ‘em, you can talk to ‘em, and get the
very best "Radio-Controlled” Mountain intel on closures,
openings, Lift Info., etc., etc.

The Open Trail List was revised down to 70(*), however
what was Open was, all preceding whacky warm/wet
weather taken into consideration, almost miraculously
extraordinarily, high performance. We think every Race
Coach on the East Coast would raid the club piggy-bank
in order to get Bus money for the Team to train at Tremblant
immediately if they knew how good ALL Tremblant's groomed
terrain is.

More later if time permits, but if you’ve got torsionally stable
short radius sharp edged Slalom skis and you love going fast
on empty slopes, Get To Tremblant Tomorrow!

If you’re a Beginner with Sharp, “Shorty”(GLM) Skis,
and you want to take a lesson on near-flawlessly smooth,
super-easy slopes, Get To Tremblant Tomorrow!

Weird Weather Is Always Going To Happen
At One Point Or Another...

At least in this case, it was brief,
and it happened last night. So, today
we do not have to suffer with it and
we can all focus on moving forward
in the process of coping with the effects.

The All-Night Work Of Mountain Op’s Will Be Our Best Asset
For Great Groomed Trail Quality Today.

Considering all the overnight wet weather drama...
For at least this morning...
What we think you’re going to find is “Amazing”, in the sense
that as far as the groomed trail array is concerned, it may even
appear in some or many cases, as if nothing has happened at all.
This afternoon could be different, but it should still be smooth.

Cosmetically, there will be the loss of the “Snow in the trees”,
however, that will not necessarily have anything to do with
how much quality there is over the square area of groomed
trail surface which we think will remain excellent.

Simply put, it has been Sub-Zero, even really, really, as in -20’s C
to -30 C, Sub-Zero for a Month, and one night of rainy weather
is not going to significantly alter the fundamental solidity of the
magnificent Base that the month of Cool and Snowy accumulations
generated.

Of course, there will be a degree of density increase because
the wet exposure will have likely taken out a lot of what we
might refer to as “Loft”, i.e., the “Fluffy” air-filled space in the
powder, but do not forget that there is a very serious barrier
just below the surface which is the stored refrigerant of a month’s
worth of down to -30 C overnight's, which experience shows, causes
much of the rain to be shed off very quickly in this type of event.

We Could Be Wrong... but we don’t think so today because there’s
just so much snow and so much deep frost to support the base
that has been doing nothing but building solidly for the past month.

Weather Notes:

The good part is that we missed all the wet action
and now we get to move on to a clearing, and sunny
recovery. At some point, the “Laws of Physics” will
have some effect on surfaces as temps drop, but
what we’re hoping for there is that it may be gradual
and with a bit of traffic to help keep some looseness
over the top layer? It appears as though a weather front
is going to move through just before noon, so if the temp
drop is as quick as the forecast shows, things may firm up
quite quickly.

We think you’ll be able to go back to Versant Soleil
Trail # 41, Toboggan, this morning and find the very
same excellence and fun that was there all day yesterday.
Toboggan’s trademark dips ’n dives, swoops and swings
are the closest thing to a natural roller coaster we’ve ever
skied and the carving quality was impeccable from top to
bottom. This trail is absolutely ideal for any short, 10 to
12.5 turning radius Slalom Ski, where you can actually
carve your skis natural shape for the whole descent...
if you have the muscle to do it!

Conditions Notes:

The big dynamic potential for today may be the
drop in temps from overnight +4 C, to -6 C at
Last Run. As mentioned above, it’s the Laws Of
Physics that will probably work quickly.

In the Groomed, there should hopefully be not much
more than Smooth and Soft, becoming Smooth and
Solid, so the default being “Smooth”. In this case,
if there was “Open” Trail changes, we think those
could be directly related to steepness where “Solid”
and “Gravity” may not be a safe combination.

In the Un-Groomed... Things could get “Lumpy”, and
if we thought there might be any reductions in the Open
Trail List, this is the category that could most likely be
changing during the day?

Regardless of any of the Open Trails Status, sharp,
fresh or recent edge tuning will be your best friend
in this dropping temperature dynamic for today and
for the next week of the upcoming forecast period.

There will always be optimized groomed trail surfaces,
however, when the temp’s cycle up/down across Zero C,
your personal performance is best optimized with tuned gear.

For Best Results... Bring Sharp Edges.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
