All “Weather Drama” Things Considered,
Todays 79 Open Trails is the very best indicator
of the quick recovery that a massive overnight
effort by Mountain Op’s Grooming team is well
underway, however...

No Camera On Earth Could Have Accurately Captured The
Wind Energy Driving Snow Over Tremblant Yesterday.

It was literally and clinically “Awesome”, as a dictionary definition,
and, as far as the “Snow Over Tremblant” part, a major snowfall benefit
where it could actually accumulate.

In this Mid-Nansen(versant Sud, South) scene above, the wind
is coming up from behind this POV, and it is not only moving at
high velocity, but it is literally carrying tons of snow up the Mountain
and blowing a lot of it over the top.

Mother Nature certainly cooked up a remarkable
variation of wind and snow yesterday that caused
major operational glitches, particularly at the end
of the day.

What we inherit for today is the remaining effects
in 2 primary areas of general definition.

1) On the Base where there was the most focused
wind facing exposure, example: Beauvallon Haut, Upper
crest at La Crete.

2) Where there was sheltered Lee-Side Snowfall accumulations,
example, Versant Nord, the North Side, below the Summit,
where there was considerable, but highly variable, back-fill
snow drifting caused by air vortices forcing snow over the
Summit where it swirled down to the surface.

Below is a sample of about 20 minutes worth of
wind-driven backfill snow accumulation on La Crete,
while descending to the top of Nansen. What was
happening here was this location is right behind
and below the Summit Peak Observation Tower on the
way to the top of Beauvallon/Nansen, and while the
roar of the wind could be heard all around you, this
sheltered area behind the Summit Observation Deck,
was being filled up by the downward swirling wind,
dumping snow in by the minute. The whole of Versant Nord,
the North side, off to the Left of this POV, was getting the
exact same phenomenon. Basically, half the Mountain(Nord, North)
was getting a significant wind-induced drifting benefit.

Conditions Notes:

Extreme Wind Conditions of yesterday caused the formation
of exposed Icy Bits that are primarily located on crests and
the pitches immediately below those crests where the force
of the velocity focused on surfaces was erosive. If you can
imagine it, think of “SandBlasting”, except in this case, it was
“SnowBlasting”, where you could actually watch Mother Nature
propelling massive amounts of super high speed snow across
the Summit that generated polished, icy exposure of the base
in a few very specific areas like the top crest of Beauvallon.
There are other icy bits in topographical contours where pooling
occurred in the prior warm cycle of 30 hours ago.

Tuned edges are critical for safety.
Absolute Speed Control is critical for safety,
especially on initial explorations.
Areas of Icy formations are frequently, but not always,
in patterns that once recognized, can be anticipated
for other similar facing/laying topography.
Use extreme caution in all initial descents to verify
safe passage before ripping around.

The very best sign of recovery is this mornings Open Trail
List with 79(*) Open Trails, indicating the positive effects
of Mountain Op’s Overnight-Shift of Grooming.

From this point forward, the general condition of Open,
groomed terrain should be evolving in daily refinement
as the weather stabilizes within Sub-Zero C ranges,
and repeated night-shifts render additional scope of
loose granular top layers throughout the Open Trail array.

Supplementary Conditions Notes:

Attention Regional Tremblant Ski/Board Fans:

Please scroll back up and review the 2 week, long range
forecast. It shows sequential days of consistent Sub-Zero C
weather that do not have any extremes, and with every
night-shift of grooming, should represent a period of
escalating refinement in all those machine treated surfaces.
This upcoming 2 weeks could be a combination of relatively
easy winter temps with all the coverage in steadily improving
daily increments. Along with the snow forecast, there could
be jumps upward in quality across all categories and skill levels
of terrain. We recommend you initiate any “Escape To Ski” plans
you can set in motion, then you can come to Tremblant and put
yourself in Downhill Motion.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
