2/10/19 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Middle of the Night-Shift Apres Ski Edit @ 1:55 A.M.

Even with the wind being a fraction of what it was
yesterday, it was still significant, but far more manageable.

Another day of visibly watching snow being relocated by Mother Nature.
Wind moving in this pic. from left to right.

Notwithstanding The Weather Effects...
The “Default Setting” for all the groomed terrain is “Smoooth”!

We feel satisfied that the major points we wrote on
in the Original Post below, are completely relevant
within the relative context of the previous several
days of whacky up/down temp's weather.

Based on an anecdotal user feedback survey on lift
rides up, about 70% of attenders today felt it was “Icy”,
20% felt it was somewhat “Icy”, but very good, all things
considered, and 10% with Tuned Race Skis thought it was
really fast and good, all things considered, as well as "A Ton
Of Technical Fun Anyway”, with occasional Icy patches.(**)

(In anticipation of the possibility for “Solid”, “Firm”, or “Icy”
conditions today, we got out the old FIS Slalom Race Skis
you see below, because they eat “Icy” for breakfast.)

(**) Perceptions of “Icy” seem to be proportionally direct to the
cross-section of Skill Levels attending. Roughly 70%(?) are Beginners
and Intermediates, and 30%(?) are Experts, of which about maybe
a third of those Experts, or 10%(?) of the total, being on some sort
of Race Skis? This is not scientific, just anecdotal.

For sure, there is some “Icy” underneath, but it could
have been a lot worse, and it will get better(less), every day.

In the “Old Days”, whacky weather like we’ve just come through,
could affect conditions for weeks, now conditions get groomed smooth
overnight, with very skiable conditions in each Green, Blue, Black
terrain category within the very next day or two. That’s yesterday and today.
There will be improving quality every single new day with repeated grooming,
not to mention... A Lot More Snow!?!?!?

In the Mean-time...

Here’s part of the original post we were right about.

Versant Soleil Algonquin was... all things considered, and relative
to all recent whacky weather... Just One Example Of Positively Phenomenal!

Tomorrow... Cool and Sunny again, but with even less wind,
so with more grooming, another step up in overall Ski-able quality.

More in the morning!

-------------- 8:29 A.M. Orig. Post -------------------

81(*) Open Trails on all 4 Sunny Sectors and Slopes at #Tremblant .

2 Major Utility Points Of Reference For Today...

1) We think today is going to be a gentler, more user friendly
version of yesterday because there is an equal amount of
sunshine, only a couple of degrees cooler at the daytime high,
but the real secret to “Easy” is... lower wind.

2) Very Big Groomed Trail Expansion And Refinements As
Contained Below In “Conditions Notes”.

There is a definite increase in the brightness from the last time
we took this Old Village of Mont Tremblant POV, and we think
that’s from the suns higher mid-day position in the sky.

Compared to other sunny days in the recent history, what this means
is that there should be a quicker and more definite sense of “Heat”
coming through to your person. Basically, the rays are getting to you
in a shorter straight line when you can find a safe, calm, trail-side place
to stop and enjoy them.

Weather Notes:

Anyone with experience living in a Northerly Winter location
will confirm that cold is far easier to take in the absence of big
wind, so that’s absolutely the thing we like most about todays
forecast.

There are still “Breezes”, but they should not even be close
to the velocity of recent days, so for us anyway, that’s a big
relief, especially when camera settings need bare fingers to
work controls.

Conditions Notes:

Huge News In The Expansion Of Open, Groomed Terrain:

Refinement: At Tremblant, we would unquestionably consider
one definition of “Refinement” to be the addition of Versant Nord,
the North Side Trails #64, Marie-Claude Asselin, and Trail # 65,
Banzai, to be two of the most significant “Canaries In The Coal Mine”
as indicators of BOTH Sector and Whole-Mountain, healthy status.

This is one of our “Go-To” file shots for Trail # 65, Banzai when Groomed.
The sample you are looking at is the lower portion that is accessible
from the Cat Track that runs between mid-point Lowell Thomas, over to
Duncan, then across to Devils River. Banzai and Marie-Claude Asselin
run parallel to each other within about 8 metres and they are absolutely
pure “Fall Line” runs because they were originally “T-Bar” Lift Lines.

When you see these 2 Trails with Grooming Icons beside them...
you KNOW tremblant Mountain Crews are making significant
advancements in the refining process.

Expressed as a percentage of the total acreage of Tremblant,
these 2 trails are very small, but... in terms of their importance
as signs of the Mountains evolving conditions status they are
huge pieces of the puzzle.

But Wait, There’s More!!!

Another Major, Major indicator of great skiing by refined grooming
is versant Soleil Sector Trail # 95, Algonquin.

Algonquin is one of the most under-rated trails at Tremblant.
Despite the fact that it is on the far side of the mainstream
traffic patterns, it is a brilliantly designed Green Trail that
all skill levels can benefit from in terms of clinically applied
technique. For Beginners, its gentle angles of slope have a
wonderful variety of easy pitches to explore the use of speed
and control movements without the threat of overwhelming
gravity, and at the same time, both Intermediates and Experts
can find a super smooth environment to practice the most subtle
degrees of edge control and the challenge to make efficient speed
through optimized balance of edge pressure that reduces drag
and improves glide.

This is a recent(1.30.19) file shot of Algonquin when freshly groomed.

1.30.19.Versant.Soleil.Algonquin.Near.Perfect.a.jpg (459.65 KiB) Viewed 2073 times
When freshly groomed, Algonquin seems as wide as an Interstate
Highway, and as smooth as the very best PGA Fairway. With a length
of somewhere around 4.5 Kilometres, it allows any skill level user
the ability to establish an uninterrupted rhythm that can literally
accelerate any good learning curve, simply because you are not
having to stop every 2 minutes to get on a lift. If you have not
tried it recently, you’re crazy to miss it when the Grooming Icon
appears beside its name on the list. Period.

Page under progressive assembly, Thanks for your visit!

The main point today is Refinement. Recent whacky
warm cycling weather has been tricky to deal with
but Mountain Crews have been diligently working
around the clock to optimize conditions. Every morning
that has sustained 24hr. stable sub-zero C temps behind
it should see escalating levels of groomed scope and quality.

Important Repeat From Yesterday, Directly Applicable Today And Onward...

Supplementary Conditions Notes:

Attention Regional Tremblant Ski/Board Fans:

Please scroll back up and review the 2 week, long range
forecast. It shows sequential days of consistent Sub-Zero C
weather that do not have any extremes, and with every
night-shift of grooming, should represent a period of
escalating refinement in all those machine treated surfaces.
This upcoming 2 weeks could be a combination of relatively
easy winter temps with all the coverage in steadily improving
daily increments. Along with the snow forecast, there could
be jumps upward in quality across all categories and skill levels
of terrain. We recommend you initiate any “Escape To Ski” plans
you can set in motion, then you can come to Tremblant and put
yourself in Downhill Motion.
