102(*) Confirmed Open Trails. Archive Data Attached Below.
Cool, Crisp, and Clear...
But you can handle the “Cool” part a lot
easier with a mid-morning break at:
2.14.19.Versant.Soleil.Quad.Views.Refuge.c.jpg
The other “Cool” Part will be the Skiing!
Especially on the Groomed terrain, where we think you’ll
notice a big difference for Sunday. These flash, low temp
drops can cook some very fine performance into the snow
and with another nights grooming, the net result could be
very fine, all the way around for all skill levels within their
respective, designated terrain.
The Sous Bois are likely to be morphing from the deep
powder to deep moguls by now, with 4 days since the big,
big snow, but there’s still plenty of soft stuff along the
boundaries .
On a day like today, one of the very best places to find yourself...
Versant Nord, North Side, Trail # 65, Banzai, at Tremblant.
Above:
This is what we consider to be one of our essential/goto diagnostic
locations on the entire Mountain. Banzai does not have any early season
snowmaking, so it’s conditions are entirely dependant on natural snow.
It is in a topographical zone within the Mountains profile that frequently
gets Lee-Side drift-in benefit from common snowfall wind patterns that
cause accumulations above the official, statistical totals for individual
snowfall events.
Years ago, even decades ago, this trail was left as an Au Natural
mogul run, and in that form, it was often one of the very first places
you’d find Ski Patrol “Test Tracks” after a big Blizzard because it
literally fills up quite quickly with huge amounts of snow. Somewhere
after the year 2000, someone incredibly brilliant in Mountain Op’s,
decided that Banzai should, or could be Groomed, and from the point
that it became regularly groomed when there was enough snow, it’s
character and significance was elevated to outstanding levels of technical
perfection due to it’s architecturally perfect fall-line as an original “T-Bar”
lift line.
It’s second quality of near-perfection is the iconic scenery that is
so captivating that if you ever have the great privilege to stand
on this actual spot, we are absolutely positive that you would be
blown-away with the almost surreal magnificence of one of
Mother Natures most etherial, almost spiritual, scenes of tranquil
beauty that no camera could ever completely capture. Artists
have been inspired by this kind of beauty for centuries and you
can find yourself here, on a day like today, with it all to yourself,
recently groomed, smooth, flat, softly covered with recent snow,
and absolutely some of the best Skiing moments possible on the
East Coast of North America. Period.
In a sense, Banzai is a place where Groomed and Sous Bois, Un-Groomed
zones synergistically meet, or overlap, especially after a recent snowfall,
and what we want you to notice is the trail-side soft snow buildup that
is evident in the pic. above, taken less than 72 hours ago that should be
still much the same today, and makes it an exceptionally fine Expert
trail with outstanding, user friendly conditions.
This is only one example of dozens of standouts of excellence,
so today will be a great opportunity for you to explore
the whole Mountain to find others that suit your taste or style.
Weather Notes:
The hourly forecast was revised to a lower -20 C for between
4:00 and 6:00 A.M, and when we went out to plug in
the vehicles block heater, it just felt like the kind of KKKkkoool
that could drop even lower...
---------- Insert Update @ 7:35 A.M. ----------
Based on the evidence added in this Update, we feel
totally vindicated in our Middle-of-the-Night-Shift call
that the overnight low could be KKkkkooler then the
-18C initially forecast...
