2/26/19 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

102/102(*) Open Trails on the Still Windy, More Snow’d on slopes of #Tremblant .

There are 2 important themes to review for
enlightened understanding of current and future
conditions at Tremblant.

The first is related to our “Main Point” contained in yesterdays post.

Important Theme One, Above:
There is enough natural Snowfall accumulation to allow
Mountain Crews to “Harvest” snow from the trail-sides
with the Groomer plow blades angled inward, to deflect
and redistribute that snow into and across the trail centres
to add lateral, level, uniformity to entire descent lines like
this excellent example of Trail # 64, Versant Nord, North Side,
Marie-Claude Asselin.

The net result(a) is that over practically the entire array of
groomed terrain there is a universally consistent level of
refined quality that can only be achieved with so much
accumulated natural snow.

The net result(b) is that this is a rare opportunity for those
with discretionary planning capability who can get to Tremblant
NOW... to do so. We can tell you for a fact, that there are not
many weeks when you can legitimately carve 11 Metre turning
radius Slalom Skis on Marie-Claude Asselin Bas, lower, for the
entire descent. We’ve had at least 2 full weeks worth of days so
far, and this is only one sample of this type of groomed excellence.

The second important theme is:

What Would You Think Would Be “Ideal” For
Any Ski Resort’s “Winter Into Spring” Time Period?

How about this:

If you’ve spent much time in these archives researching prospective
timeframes to plan a Tremblant visit, you will realize the emphasis
and very high value we place on consecutive runs of Sub-Zero C
days that yield refined snow surfaces without any heat contamination.
Just about the best chance we have of that continuing this season is
the forecast above, so we would be eternally grateful if Mother Nature
could please deliver all the promise for “Winter” continued that this
forecast promises. Will it happen the way we’d like to see it?

Weather Notes:

It’s Still “Breezy” This Morning...
(See top weather graphic wind component below.)

Wow, what can you say about a demonstration of such
immense force? From the standpoint of a “Ski Resort”,
at least it is Sub-Zero C and there has been snow, so
eventually we should come out of this with a net-positive.

In the mean-time...

Anyone attending who doubts the significance of the windchill
values has had a reorientation over the past couple of days as
Mother Nature has simply(literally?) blown them away.

Today was supposed to see a substantially lower wind
speed but evidently that was not a plan that was effectively
communicated to Mother Nature because the actual wind
this morning is over double what yesterdays forecast was for...
Not a thing we can do about that other than bundle up...

Conditions Notes:

Windchill values require extraordinary attention to
outer garment shell seals and overlaps in order to
preserve heat internally.

Other than that... The Skiing should be all of excellent
from the standpoint of a clinical assessment due to the
great abundance of natural snow in the both the groomed
surfaces, as well as the Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste,
and Un-groomed.

The challenge, obviously, will be to endure the blustery
weather wind component in descent as well as on lift
returns.

-------- Conditions Caveat: -------------

Frontally facing wind exposed crests and steep pitches
may exhibit icy patches where the wind force has had
enough sustained energy to be erosive. This will most
likely be in patterns that are recognizable and a pro-active
approach from above should be undertaken from a stopped
position prior to descent in order to determine the safest
path. Navigating to outboard sides of crests to stop and
survey for best lines may be useful as traversed centres
can show greater chances of hazards.

----------------------------------------

This may not be a day to let your Beginner friends tag along
as you Expert, or even Intermediate explore the Open Terrain.
Please be sensitive to some of the access routes to the Green
terrain that may be prone to icy patches. One potential example
is the initial descent to upper Beauchemin and P’tit Bonheur from
La Crete, and on a day like today, until we personally establish
safe passage in this zone, we might take our Beginner friends down
to P’tit Bonheur via La Crete all the way to the Beauvallon intersection
to avoid that first little pitch that can sometimes have wind or traffic
induced icy exposures.

Genuine Experts are going to have a blast exploring on any Open
terrain. With the last day’s snowfall, the total for the season so-far
in 486 cm’s, of which about 230 cm’s/7.5 feet of new snow has come
in around the last month, so the coverage is absolutely superb.
Additionally and/or pursuant to that, the level of grooming
refinement is at very high levels of attainment that we do not
always see, so it has felt a bit surreal to be doing Slalom Carving
laps on some of our favourites like Trail # 64, Marie-Claude Asselin,
that Mountain Crews have been able to keep as smooth as a Golf
Course fairway.

All the current signs point to an extended continuation of
Winter through at least to Mid-March, so we’re recommending
those who prefer the qualities of deep winter to make extra
effort to attend as often as possible, now... before Mother Nature
decides to change her mind and bring on spring.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
