We’ve Been Skiing Like This Several Months At Tremblant.

Temps on the rise to Versant Sud, South Side Resort
Base @ -1C, snowfall forecast, and the whole
Mountain stays Sub-Zero, so things get easier and
refreshed as the day progresses, but remain all “Winter”.

It’s a mild winter weekend Saturday, so things could be busy.
Hard to say exactly how busy, but so far we have not had
too much trouble with lift lines by using the singles lines
when the wait times begin to build.

In that regard, we would like to put in a good word on the
brand new Lowell Thomas High Speed Detachable Quad Chairlift
because we have not had a single day in all our experience
so far, where there is more than a 5 minute wait there.

Of course it is possible that longer wait times may have occurred
at Lowell T, but it is either that they have not, or we have just
managed to miss them in the course of circulation. In any event
the new Lowell T. Quad is a brilliant addition to the lift array at
Tremblant and we have taken great delight in being able to do
9 minute laps on P’tit Bonheur, and 7.5 minute laps on a Lowell
T. to Banzai Bas/Gagnon circuit when there is no line.

Additionally on a few occasions when there have been longer
Duncan lines, we’ve zipped up the Expo Quad singles line, down
Gagnon and up the new Lowell T. Quad singles, with virtually no line
wait at all, so that’s an option Weekender’s should keep in mind.

Weather Notes:

What we like to see is that all important sub-zero C 24hr
cycle uninterrupted so there are no thermal influences
that can be defined as “Thaw”, even if it’s only by a degree
or two. When it comes to the laws of physics, even close
to zero C, but still below, is exactly what should make today
an excellent blend of user friendly daytime temps with
100% winter surface performance.

In this specific case, we’re also happy and reassured to see
the morning sunny change to afternoon overcast because the
cloud should act as an umbrella to keep off any unwanted
solar radiation that could unduly soften snow surfaces when
there’s such a small margin with a projected daytime high
at -1C at the Versant Sud, South Side Resort Base.

Add in the potential of some natural snowfall, and we are
also going to be another small step in the right direction
towards moving upward from the current season-to-date
of 486cm’s to the magic 500cm’s that will put us into what
we call “Super Season” status.

We define any season as a “Super Season” when there
is a 20% or more attained snowfall accumulation above
the 21 year seasonal TOTAL accumulation average, which
is currently at 418cm’s.

We had a very early eye opener inquiry if we knew anything
about problems or a temperature inversion due to the temp
display on the Summit Web Cam and the answer is that we do not.

Above:
The data from the Versant Sud, South Side Resort Base level
is the small lower right Blue data box, and the screen left,
larger 10 day Summit Weather Station display both indicate
-20 C at 6:40 A.M. so it must be a malfunction of some sort.
This display is usually fairly accurate as far as we know, but
at the time indicated, there appears to be something out of line.

There is usually an elevation differential of -4C cooler between
Summit and Base levels, so it’s already a bit different with the
equal values shown by these two data graphics above.

Incidentally, the above graphic from The Weather Network is
once again, showing an actual overnight low @ -20C that is
way below the forecast that was for only -14C. Anecdotally,
this is maybe 7 or 8 out of the last 10 days that the overnight
lows are actually between 6 and 10C lower than the forecast ???

Even though the overnights are lower than forecast, there may
be a very good reason we’ll appreciate the extra stored refrigerant
in the Mountain soon because while March may have come in like
a Lion, it appears as though it may go out like a warm Lamb.

Pay close attention to the lower left corner of the graphics composite below

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
