Today we take a look at the concept of Multi-Purpose,
Multi-Style, trail performance, with reference to all
the groomed terrain, using a single sample for an
illustrative case study.

Yesterday we discussed the benefits of refinement and
today we apply that to Versant Sud, the South Side Summit
Level trail McCulloch that is not only a local favourite, but is
also an excellent example of Multi-Skill Level/Style use.

If you look at the differences in facial expression between
the above and below, it could be argued that the individual
below might actually be having more “Fun”, despite the
obvious differences in demonstrated skills, and maybe that’s
the point, you don’t need to have exotic performance capability
to have a real, genuine, and very rewarding descent when
conditions are this accommodating within the same space.
All 3 of these pic’s were taken from the same position, and
within about 4 minutes.

In addition to the ability of this trail to currently support
styles and abilities of a very wide range of users, we also
want to point out the length of time this trail has been in
such very fine shape. Weeks and weeks of thermal-free
winter has rendered day-in, day-out reliability that we
theorize you can only find so consistently at this Northern
Latitude.(**)

Weather Notes:

The left hand graphics below highlight the
frequently repeated difference between the
forecast overnight low and the actual low,
which in many recent cases has been between
5 to 8C lower than forecast.

The concern we have is for regional planners
who may rely on a quick look at the forecast for
the next night as part of their garment planning
and packing before they depart at 5:30 A.M.

Planning for -18C and going up, is way
different than planning for -25C and going
up, by at least one layer. We’re suggesting
you allow extra layers for about the next 5
or 6 mornings in case this cooler difference
pattern continues.

Conditions Notes:

For the Quebec Spring School Break, Mountain traffic has
been relatively light, so it’s a fantastic opportunity to rack up
some serious vertical with almost no lift waiting. With the
cool overnights to cook out any residual humidity, the
groomed conditions are surfaces that are so well compacted
that, if you have the skills and muscles, you should be able
to carve like a Surgeon with a sharp scalpel.

In the Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste, and Un-Groomed,
it’s been a while since a big single snow, so powder
lines are not common, but at least it’s all open and
all snow. The fact that the “all snow” is at 495 cm’s,
or 16.25 feet of season-to-date, you know it will be fun
anyway, especially for mogul hounds that like their bumps
with a side-order of trees to weave lines through!

Go Anywhere,
Do Anything...

The Name Of The Tremblant Game Is “Versatility”!

(**)We think this is a direct function of the statistical,
meteorological fact that Tremblant has three months per
year of an average daily high temp that is below freezing
as compared to the more Southerly Latitudes such as
Killington Vt. that only have one month per year of daily
averages below freezing. Tremblant simply has fewer
up's/down’s across the freezing mark during winter,
so regardless of what totals fall as snow, the reliable
surface quality difference, especially in the groomed,
is how long it's retained without thermal exposure.
We further submit that when you’re going to make
Winter Ski Holiday reservations in August, September
or October, it’s the prospect of statistically more predictable
winter quality that is such a major asset for Tremblant planners.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
