When temps are rising, conditions typically get better in terms
of surface softness and forgiveness as long as they do not
climb too quickly or too high.
At the forecasted temp values that are limited to +5C for Open
Hours today, we do not expect any loss of performance because
the usual elevation differential of cooler by -4C should prevent
any serious thaw level.
What thaw exposure exists will also be offset to a large degree
by the supporting frost that is so deep into the Mountains
conical mass, that it will take weeks and weeks to overcome.
It is our opinion that the Mountain will shed off whatever
falling wetness occurs and otherwise, the biggest consequence
we should see is an initial increase in surface density. That
should not affect the overall user friendly quality until
some 54 hours from now on Saturday, when a return to
Sub-Zero is forecast. Fortunately, that this point, the forecast
for then also includes simultaneous snowfall. If that happens,
the long term affects should be even less.

The Summit is covered in fog at first tracks
indicating very low altitude for what is actually
cloud. We continue to have experience based hope
that the precipitation shown for later on will still
be generated by this low altitude cloud. The significance
is that precipitation usually falls below the cloud, not
in the cloud. If that was the case, Mountain elevations
may not see or be affected by rain to the same degree
as ground/base levels.
We could be wrong, but experience shows in past, similar
situations if the cloud stays low, Mountain conditions often
escape the vast majority of precipitation. They may not escape
some of the heat, but that’s a completely different thing, and
because the frost exposure is so recent, even that warm air
exposure may not be able to get into surfaces by more than
a few inches/cm’s.
