T360 Apres Midnight, Apres Ski Edit @1:17 A.M.

Another Full Winter Day.

Will It Be The Last?

From start to finish, we had an all Winter day.
We were parked on the Nord, North Side, so that’s
where we had our “Last Run”, so in all fairness, it’s
possible there was more end-of-day softness at the
Resort Base levels by 4:00 P.M. than we saw on the
inherently cooler Nord, North.

One really interesting aspect of the day was the number
of very easily identifiable Groups that could be seen circulating.
This pic. below at the Expo Quad Peak was absolutely typical,
and within this frame there 3 large and distinct groups of
visiting Tremblant Guests. We heard a lot of Spanish on the
Mountain today, more today perhaps, than we might hear in a
typical week.

Below:

The snow was all Winter, all day. The way the surface
is being displaced by the sliding right ski below is a
genuine cool winter characteristic. This pic. was taken
at the top of P’tit Bonheur at about 4:15 P.M., and this
location is just within the top visible portion of the initial
pitch in the second pic. below. There is no softness or
humidity in this dry crystalline snow at Summit elevations
and it had great edge hold for maximized lateral grip in
applied carving technique throughout all the descent lines
of the days experience.

The level of lateral grip is obvious below, and it was exactly
what we had virtually the entire day, over the entire groomed
trail network. If there were any hints of “Spring” in todays
performance, it might be that there was just a touch of friction
that made for slightly less speed, but where that may have been
the case, the offset in additional available “Shred” quality was more
than enough to bump up the thrilling levels of 100% reliable lateral
grip, where you could literally stand sideways on carving edges
of radical angles without any fears of traction loss, what-so-ever.

Tomorrow currently has both snow and rain in the forecast.
Depending on the source of forecast, there are possibilities
it could go either way, or perhaps the type of precipitation
may be directly related to elevation or facing wind exposure?

The daytime high temp is forecast @ +5C, however
the precip. icons are small, indicating passing bands
of lighter activity rather than steady or heavy. It is
possible the active precip. may bypass the Mountain
completely, but it’s all speculation until we see what
surprises Mother Nature has in store

You may need your Descente Poncho... maybe not...(?)

Technically speaking, the Skiing should be excellent on
warming surface layers that are supported by very durable
frost underneath. You just need to be ready for whatever
atmospheric conditions evolve.

Weather Notes:

Today, it’s Winter ’til about noon... then, at least in air temperature,
spring kicks in. It should look exactly like the pic above.

As far as the 14 day long-range outlook, it certainly seems as
though we’ll see a substantial change in the consistency of
daytime high temps above zero C. If you look closely, there
is only one day of the next two weeks forecast to have a
below ZeroC daytime high. What we need to remember is
these numbers are for the Sud, South Side, Resort Base Level,
so if we get the typical -4C cooler elevation spread, the
Mountain itself may have a lot more overnight hours below
ZeroC, and that can significantly contribute to the durability
of the trail surface coverage.

Conditions Notes:

Up to, and including today, there is still so much frost
under the surface that in many places you can not stab
your ski poles into the snow far enough that they will stand.
On March 27, that’s a good thing because what it tells us is
that the stored refrigerant underneath is going to be more
than capable of supporting winter-like performance, not
only all day, but we think, for weeks to come.

Solar energy will be working right from sunrise, so we also
think there may be quite a bit of noticeable softening at
Sud, South, and Soleil Sector Base levels, however, it
should not affect one single square cm/inch of coverage.

Due to relatively light traffic, there should be all day
mogul resistance even if there are zones of softening,
with the possible exception of the main Soleil run-outs
to the Soleil Quad Base where everyone gets funnelled
into only 2 pathways.

Basically, we think there’s enough cool momentum
underneath to get away with today as one more
completely Winter conditions day.

There are 2 major Mountain utility updates:

1) For the past several days the TGV Quad has been
closing a half hour before Last Run. This is a big change
for Tremblant regulars(especially Versant Nord, North Side
Based Guests), who were used to doing one or two quick
laps on McCulloch, Kandahar, Taschereau Beauvallon,
Alpine, et al, before wrapping up for the day,
as TGV was always open to Last Run.

2) NEW: Duncan has been groomed out to the extreme descending
right side at the Summit Crest and has expanded over what
used to be the upper portion of the Saute-Moutons mogul zone
between the Summit Crest and the Devils River entrance.

Here is the Descending POV shot from the Duncan Quad overhead.

These changes as pictured above, are certainly going to facilitate
easier descents for a wider range of skill levels attempting
Duncan, and there is a good possibility it will help make the
Summit Pitch of Duncan less prone to iciness, as traffic will
not be nearly so concentrated into the old, far narrower space.
In our opinion, this is an excellent upgrade for the multi-Skill Level
utility and overall durability of Duncan’s Summit pitch.

-------------- T360 Fan Submitted Update @11:13 A.M. ----------

NEW: Expo Pitch Groomed Wall-To-Wall, Ultra-Wide.

This update should have been here yesterday when we first
saw it, so we’re very grateful for the Fan submitted pic. below
as a prompt to update.

This lateral extension of the Expo Pitch Groomed width will
be more controversial than the Duncan Pitch(#), but never-the-less,
it will make Expo’s pitch easier for a whole new group of potential
users.

(#) We acknowledge there are Expo Mogul Hounds who
may prefer the band of moguls usually left on the Cossak side.
If there are utility assets with a wider groomed area, those
may include a longer period of Spring Access due to the
expanded coverage of the very uneven rocky nature of
what lies beneath. It will be very interesting to see how
this works out, but the immediate benefit is certainly the
increase in width that we think may allow for easier descents
due to far more maneuvering space and less traffic wear
per square unit of groomed trail surface.
