3/30/19 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Middle Of The Night-Shift Apres Ski @ 3:37 A.M.

(Please Note: The context for the herein described weather
and conditions anomalies is “Temporary”. We expect that
by sunrise, as usual, the vast majority of Open Terrain should
be substantially restored.)

We were wrong on our forecast similarity to yesterday
because of the combination of initially thick snowfall
that occurred during early Open Hours and the freezing
rainy mix that followed.

There were some surfaces that remained relatively smooth
for the whole day, but no doubt, there was a considerably higher
challenge factor across the whole range of trails and skills.

Just imagine a bunch of freezing rainy mix over this pic below
and you’ll instantly have an insight into the complicated conditions
that developed.

It was truly a Descent Poncho Day. Even with the first snow,
the poncho was useful in keeping one dry because you did
not get such a wet butt from lift rides. When the rainy stuff
hit at mid-afternoon, it made all the difference in the world
and as usual, we take great delight in remaining dry. Those
around without Poncho are not so fortunate.

Photography was very limited due to the intensity of
atmospherically camera-hostile precipitation, but in
a clear moment we got this one of our Case Study
trail of Versant Soleil, Trail # 95, Algonquin. We have
been monitoring this trail for a couple of weeks, and
today it was certainly in the top group of “User Friendly”
that showed the least amount of complications. If anyone
told you there wasn’t good skiing, you can point them
to this one as just one example of many, that there was
great fun to had on a select basis, especially if you had the
outer shell to stay dry with.

For Tomorrow:
Bottom line is that there are a lot of “Wild Cards” in
looking ahead. It is uncertain how much grooming
can be done, so we wait with held breath to see how
things will shape up for Sunday.

Beauvallon(#8) and Beauchemin(#71), two excellent Tremblant Blue’s

Above: Versant Soleil, Trail #95, Algonquin, has been a recent
and ongoing case study for us and we can tell you for a fact,
it has had magnificent smooth and fast surfaces suitable for all
Skill Level enjoyment utilizing any style from Beginner to
Front-Side Carving Expert. The Ski/Board traffic has been so
light that there have been innumerable opportunities to safely
dial up the speed, simply because there is no one in sight.

Not Steep enough for you? Then you might be missing
the point. This beautiful trail is all about Finesse.

Need Bumps?
Is Your Mind On Moguls?

Only one of dozens of examples...

Please Note: This is the Windigo exit/runout to
lower Fuddle Duddle and a very important observation
here is the exceptional level of drift-in natural snow
accumulation that has almost levelled out the 2 trails.
There is so much snow here that the trees all look shorter
then normal. It’s really quite extraordinary, but for Tremblant
regulars who are used to average seasonal depths here,
it takes a minute to recognize just why this scene seems
so different. As we approach an all-time recorded level of
snowfall it literally changes the way we are used to seeing
many areas of the Mountain like this example.

Regardless of Atmospheric Activity,
The Skiing Should Be Exactly That Good, Again, Today.

For Today:

There is some probability that at higher, cooler, Mountain Elevations,
some or all of the rain indicated precip. could be partially, or all snow.
This is absolutely a tipping point situation over the Mountain as far
as we are concerned, especially when we expect the cooler elevation
differential to potentially keep the Summit at or hopefully a degree
below Zero C.

We could be wrong, but at least so-far today, it’s snowing like crazy.

Conditions Notes:

Too Many Wild Cards To Call It Anything Else Than:

Anything’s Possible!

We’re hoping for the 80/20 principle to be applicable
at Tremblant today. That means that 80% of the time,
if there is adverse weather forecast, the Elevated Tremblant
Alpine Trail Network comes out far better than the forecast
might suggest.

You’ll need to be ready for any atmospheric possibility,
however, the Skiing should be clinically excellent Spring
Quality, Winter Coverage, all day.

Got Descente Poncho?
Maybe you’ll need it, maybe you won’t.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
