4/2/19 #Tremblant Conditions

88(*) Open Trails on the Morning Winter, Afternoon Spring Slopes at #Tremblant .

It’s been a wonderful Winter so far in April.

...that is, until about noon today?

We’ve been looking closely at Versant Nord, North Side, “Devils River”,
Trail # 57 over the past 2 days as a sample of the incremental refinement
that’s typical at Tremblant after a “Thermal Event”(like the one back on
Saturday), and we’re very pleased to report the outstanding results
Mountain Crews have achieved. A recovery that might never have happened
to the same degree at the beginning of April in the Old Days, has occurred
in less than 48 hours, and the end result is almost as if nothing happened at all.

The only thing that has been changing on this trail for yesterday, and we
predict to a greater degree today, is the amount of surface softness generated
by solar and air temperature exposures to Zero C or above. From -5C
to +5C, it is going to look virtually identical to begin with, and only the
amount of traffic will change the wear pattern by the end of today, but we
are very confident that it, along with all the other groomed trails, should
remain relatively mogul resistant because of all the supporting frost underneath
that has remained stable here at Tremblant since about the end of last November(**).

(**) It is our observational opinion that the stability of the frost, and the
quality we are all benefiting from throughout the entire season at Tremblant
right up to now, and for the foreseeable future, is directly attributable
to the Northern Latitude that gives Tremblant 3 Months Per Season of
daily average temperatures below Zero C/32 F, as compared to Central
Vermont that now only has one month of those average temps below
Zero C/32F per season. For this reason, on a regional basis, we think
Tremblant “Owns” Winter, and if you do nothing other than look at the
Wall-to-wall 100% Winter coverage here at April 1st, you’d have to
acknowledge at the very least that there is very little evidence of “Spring”
to be seen anywhere here today.

We further submit that if you are reading this record in some future
September as you research where to put your hard-earned dollars/pounds
for a Family Ski Holiday, this is a legitimate mechanical advantage for
Tremblant in terms of the higher probability of genuine winter conditions
over a more reliable, much longer span of weeks and months.

Below: Just One Example Of Many Fresh Descent Lines And
Snow In The Trees @ 3:00 P.M., 4.1.19.

Wow... Light early April traffic leaves vast tracts of un-used
freshly snow’d descent lines over a base that is still as good
as it was in January. Absolutely fantastic for those who can
make it to Tremblant now.

The snow in the trees indicates stable, round the clock Sub-Zero’s
wherever it exists as this snow has no insulation and is subjected
to 360 degrees of whatever atmospheric thermal influence comes
along for more that a few minutes, so we’re very happy to see it
for both the utility it signifies, as well as the cosmetic enhancement
of the scenery. We may loose a lot of it today, but April does often
produce periods of abundant snowfall, and we still have 3 weeks to go.

Conditions Notes:

Spring Gets Delayed Again... We keep on talking about the arrival of
Spring, but so-far, other than very short thermal burps that get mostly
covered overnight, Winter continues to hold on in overall surface
characteristics right up to today and with the prospect of cooler
Mountain Elevations not having more than a couple or three hours
exposure to Zero C, it could all go on “Winter" again today?

Time and experience will tell, but in the meantime, we fully
agree with Tremblant.ca’s use of the temperature reference
regarding “Oscillations”, or daily moves to above and below the
freezing mark. These oscillations cause daily cycles of firm
to soft in top surface layers, and as far as utility is concerned
getting the most out of any set of conditions that includes “Firm”,
requires fresh, sharp Ski/Board edges.

Above: “Spring” can sometimes have “everything” all at once, and this
snap shot of Algonquin yesterday surely proves that. Sunny, and
simultaneously snowing big, fat, beautifully light and fluffy, over
an immaculate base that is near flawless. Almost Nirvanic!

Conditions with a big “Winter” bias in both
coverage and performance, continue to
hang on at Tremblant!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
