More Glorious Winter!

April?, What April???

Mother Nature Extends Her Cool Conditions...

Another Private Club Day of relatively low traffic.
Firm, to very firm, all winter with some odd icy bits,
but totally Smooth, and generally faster, less friction in surfaces.

The most important part is the "Default Smooth" as the
basic starting position for virtually the entire Groomed
Alpine Trail Network.

Absolutely critical to have Sharp, Fresh, Tuned Edges.
With Edges... “Carving Fun”, Without Edges... "Slip-Slide Skid”.

Tomorrow/Friday... So Far, it’s a repeat of very close to same conditions
with one huge advantage over Thursday...

The Wind Should Be A Fraction Of The Action it was on Thursday.

The pesky wind caused Lift Issues including Soleil Sector Closure,
so we’re super-pleased to see that component forecasted to be vastly reduced !

Looking Forward To Seeing YOU On The Slopes Tomorrow!

90(*) Open Trails on the yet again, totally “Winter” in April, Slopes of #Tremblant .

What we have today is...

An Absolutely Wonderful Late Season “Winter” Refresh!

All of this about yesterday, will be a component of todays
Winter performance excellence.

The mix of active weather yesterday was endlessly fascinating
for anyone with an interest in Natural Sciences. Not only did it
deliver a new shot of very snowy winter, but the strength of
the propulsion could be seen in real time shaping of snow
deposits through movement right before your very eyes.

We did not perceive the wind as a negative. It was strong for sure,
and definitely cool, but not cold and there was very little “Bite” in it.
If we had to try to describe it, we’d say it was a "Winter Sirocco”
because of the way it was shaping the surfaces over the Mountains
peaks and crests, but without sufficient heat to generate any degree
of humidity in it.

These Desert Sand Waves of snow where the largest in profile we’ve seen
this winter, some of them were well over 15 cm’s. In addition to the outright
statistical snowfall total, there was a considerable amount of blow-over from
Versant Sud, the South Side, to Versant Nord, the North Side that resulted
in large depths of backfill below the Summit. This continued on all day and
the shot you see below is taken from the Expo Peak, just before 3:00 P.M.,
so you literally had fresh powder carving lines accessible for the entire day.

Otherwise, the snow and wind combination generated beneficial
accumulations within every corner of the Open terrain.

One very unusual performance aspect was a high rate of friction.
This is not common for either these temps or this dryness of the
snow. It was just like the high friction snow can get when it’s -30 C.
We do not know exactly why, but the practical side was that you
could ski any steep run on the Mountain and feel as if there was a
significant gravity offset that simply made them all seem easy.

The degrees of surface friction were somewhat variable. We’ve
been monitoring Versant Soleil “Algonquin” for over a week to
observe its evolutionary conditions and yesterday it was an example
of lower than average friction, so what a neat surprise to make about
5 Km’s worth of these tight-linked Super-Carve turns on untracked trail
sides(seen below, screen-left), for the entire descent that left the Quad
Muscles rendered into Jello by the time you got to the bottom. This was
addictive fun and there were no other people to be seen, very little signs
of any other earlier use, and it left us wondering how is it possible such
excellence can go virtually undiscovered.

Weather Notes:

At these temps that could be at -4C cooler over elevations,
it’s a legitimate “Bundle-Up” notice, at least for closures,
if not insulation. In wind sheltered Nord, North places below
the Summit, you’ll feel heat in the rays where you can safely
take trail-side breaks. Don’t forget to stop and take pictures,
today is the kind of scenic day they make Post Cards of.

Conditions Notes:

After the unpredictable speed loss factor yesterday, we’re
hoping the overnight windy low temps may have freeze-dried
out any friction elements. Time will tell, but we’ll have to wait
for Apres Ski to let you know on that. Even if it stays the same,
steeps are easy, and otherwise, everything groomed is as flat as
a sheet of plywood, traction and lateral grip are outstanding and
the whole Mountains Groomed Trail Network feels so smooth, it’s
like it’s paved with velvet. Very, very sweet Winter in April.

Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste, and Un-Groomed are all a’ la Carte,
but there is so much snow in the bush even those zones are filled in
to unusual depths that have tended to fill everything out to more
evenly level than anything you’re used to seeing here.

Summary is... Stop reading this second,
and leave for Tremblant as soon as you can.
This will not last forever, and it is exceptionally fine.

There are Local Residents who offer unsolicited
personal opinions on Chairlift accents, that think
this may be their finest Tremblant Season ever.
As subjective as that may be, it is never-the-less
hugely significant just to even be considered
on that level by those with decades of experience
as frames of reference.
