4/8/19 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Prime Time Evening Edit Under Progressive Assembly @ 9:33 P.M.

After all the wet, windy, whacky, weather drama earlier
today that caused the closure of Versant Sud, the South Side,
and many, many trails, at the “End Of The Day”, this Is A Three
Step, Zoom-in Sequenced Insight Into....

Everything You Need To Know About
Apres Ski At Tremblant Tonight....

1) We start with the Wide Angle, Apres Ski, Big Picture here
this evening because you first need to understand there is
very solid reason to be optimistic about tomorrow:

After A Whacky Day... It’s Snowing!!!

2) In the Mid-magnification range, you can see the new snowfall
is arriving at a very low wind speed, so it is settling evenly
on all the complex shapes and contours, equally coating
features both large and small.

3) In the final Zoomed-in Detail shot you get the real clues about
the makeup of what you should find integrated into the entire
Skill Level range of Groomed Trails tomorrow morning.
You will note this POV shows the close-up detail of what
strata are covering the lateral surfaces of the branches,
including a layer of frozen rain(see drips froze in place),
that is first coating them, that was followed by the start of
significant snowfall, just around 6:30(18:30) P.M.tonight.

Important Repeat:
After A Whacky Day... It’s Snowing!!!

All three of the above were shot from the same position,
overlooking the local hillside in the Old Village of Mount Tremblant,
adjacent to the Versant Sud, South Side Resort Base Level.
They represent approximately 24mm F/E for wide, 350mm F/E for mid,
and 1200mm F/E for Zoomed-in, and are all hand held, no tripod.
If you could see through the snow and upper levels of branches
in the Wide angle, you’d be able to see the Summit Grand Manitou
and the Versant Soleil Quad top.

We are theorizing the Mountain to be similar, so we think the summary
is today's Frozen rain was very inconvenient, however, it is NOT erosive,
so when blended in with the new natural snow in the Grooming
process tonight, we think it could actually generate some spectacular
conditions for tomorrow. Pay close attention to the morning Groomed List.
There should be serious potential for excellence where grooming icons
indicate finished trails.

The Next Three Days Could Be Worth Running Away From Home
To Go Skiing At Tremblant, If You Can...

Versant Sud, South Side Closed For The Day Due To Adverse Weather.

REVISED Open Trails to 7(*). Archival Data Attached Below.

Please Note: The Only Versant Nord, North Side descent path
in this update is P’tit Bonheur(Trail #72) to Beauchemin Bas,

Today is going to be a lot different than yesterday,
however the net weather effect remains to be seen.
Plus, there are even some initial positive signs that things
may not be so bad in this Summit Level Web Cam Snap-Shot
time stamped @ 8:49 A.M. that definitely shows a Sub-Zero C
accumulation in the trees. This is substantial evidence that
Mountain Elevations have a different story to tell as compared
to the freezing rainy base levels.

What we have to be so very thankful for is the solidity of the Base.

Even with one of the busiest weekend day traffic observations,
trails like this Erik Guay sample below, remained relatively stable
yesterday with only small mogul formations that evolved in portions
of the trail, while there continued to be smooth descent lines you could
work your way down on the sides, over the entire length of the run.

What you are seeing below is a mogul zone at the very top of the
summit pitch on Erik Guay and the smooth line to bypass was on
the descending right side. These bumps were all extremely soft
and because they were shallow, they were very easy to get through.

The main point, or take-away from todays overview is
that whatever temporary situations occur today, the
foundation of the Alpine Snow Sports Trail Network,
i.e., the “Base”, has not gone anywhere.

“Weather” happens, but the base still has weeks worth of
capable frost support and tomorrow is a new day that
should see a return to far more normal April skiing conditions.

Weather Notes:

Please Note: The current evidence indicates these Sud, South
Base Level conditions are not applicable to all Mountain Elevations.

The good news is the conversion from whatever frozen-rainy,
sleety mix there is early today, to forecasted snowfall later on
with the overnight Sub-Zero C’s that should allow Mountain
Crews to groom some smooth into all the basics for tomorrow.

Conditions Notes:

What needs to be remembered for today is the
necessity to be able to consider Trail Surface
conditions as separate and distinct from Atmospheric
conditions. Of course it’s the latter that may be a
dominant factor in enjoyment and Open Trail availability,
however it is likely that the clinical status of Open Trails
will actually be very good(or better), “Spring”. Consequently,
anyone here who is prepared, the few, the brave, the bold,
the “Adaptable”, are going to quietly reflect on the fun
they had while everyone else checked in, either hangs
out at the bar or watches old movies today.

Two Items of “Adapt” are:

1) Descente Poncho
- You can function through any of this when dry.

2) Yellow Lens Industrial Safety Glasses
- It’s warm, you don’t need Goggles, you need to see contrast.

We say...

“Them who adapts the quickest, has the most fun..."

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
