The thickness generated a bit of resistance, but only
because of the accumulating depths, and overall,
it has great speed that another night of grooming
will probably enhance where compaction factors are
greatest. It might take a couple of nights to get it
all worked in, but the floating powder sensations
were so much fun we would not be disappointed
if nothing got groomed. Of Course... the Green
Terrain will likely get lots of refinement tonight
so Beginners and Intermediates can find lots of “Easy”.
This corduroy sample, also on P’tit Bonheur, was apparently
there all day. Talk about light traffic... We were doing 7 and 8
minute laps at polite cruising speeds off the Lowell Thomas Quad.
Marvelous, absolutely Marvelous!

It Was Actually Better Than We Hoped For.
In a moment of clarity between the snowflakes we managed
out of sheer luck to get this McCulloch Action shot, and we’d
have to say, what you see here for performance was typical of
all the Open Groomed Terrain. Even without Snow-Filters, the
flat light was a challenge. Sorry for the burned up contrast on
this one, but we were looking to get as much surface detail
around the Skis arching through the snow as possible.

We think that’s exactly correct, and furthermore,
here’s what we are forecasting you can do all day...

was predominantly freezing rain, followed by natural snow
at Base levels, more of a Sleety-Snowy mix, then snow,
at elevations.
It could have been much worse, in the sense that if it
had been just rain, as it was in many surrounding areas,
there would have been erosive effect on trails, but...
Freezing rain is not erosive, it just coats everything,
making it all inconvenient for the moment, but because
its mass is solid, not liquid, it simply becomes ground up
in the next grooming cycle(last night), and becomes part
of a granular mix.
The new snowfall that came last evening should be a
major contribution to a finer blended outcome on the
entire range of groomed open terrain today, that should
also benefit from Guest Ski/Board traffic. PLUS, It’s already
started to snow vigorously, so...
If, if, if... we’re right about all the positive potentials,
today could be an extraordinary recovery example of
very fine skiing.
From a practical standpoint, there are so many variable
elements that could, maybe, might, should, possibly,
conceivably, speculatively, etc., etc., alter the actual
and final outcome, that the real news will be the Apres
Ski report, which we will endeavour to have an early
edition up before 8:00 P.M.

The Groomed trails should be the jewels in the crown
today, however it is possible that after even a brief
warm/wet exposure with a return to sub-zero C’s,
there may be some icy bits around. There were a lot
of Wild Cards in the mix, so predicting is risky, but
what we’re hoping for is the general observational
rule that 80% of the time, the Mountain keeps way
better conditions than the weather history might suggest.
We actually think this whole precipitation combination
could render out some great finished groomed results,
and if, if, if, we’re right, today and the next two days
following could be really exceptional, primo, Spring Skiing.
In the Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste, and Un-Groomed, the
very best indicator of good conditions this morning is that
Versant Nord, the North Side is 100% Open. This tells you
the Ski Patrol have certified safe conditions, and following
any freezing rain event, that means there is little crusting
effect.
Additionally, any or all of the possible positive expectations
may be enhanced, accelerated, improved, and otherwise
benefit, from more snowfall forecasted to happen during
Open Hours.
Please Note: It is possible that after any such weather event,
the Open Trail list may be adjusted up or down. For Best Results...
