So far... We’ve been very much relieved to
have enjoyed the continuation of speed in
the increasingly warming Spring Snow.

Despite the cloud/fog and very humid, sometimes
sort-of misty atmosphere, it’s been great to cruise
around with very little resistance underfoot other
than from the relatively shallow thickness of the
soft top layers.

While surrounding base/ground level snowpack is visibly melting
off very quickly now, Mountain elevations still continue to be blessed
with what seem to be crazy depths of retained accumulations.

Please Note (A): in the pic. below, the visible tree debris is simply
5 months worth of wind generated and naturally falling tree bark
and needles that get left on top as the snow melts, revealing them.
They are clean, soft, and do not affect skis or skiing quality, but
they do not melt like the snow that’s been hiding them within
winters multi-snowfall layers.

Please Note (B):
The actual snow depth here is unknown. We left the ski pole visible
for sight recognition and the ski is not touching the ground because
the backward facing ski brake and rear binding are so jammed with
heavy, thick, wet snow, we could not push it down any farther.

This is a very subjective visual anecdote based on
many seasons of relative observation, but there is
so much snow in the Versant Nord, North, trail side
snowpack @ over 600 cm’s, that for the last 6 weeks or so,
it has made all the trees look shorter than they usually
seem to be.

And Now For Something Completely Different...

Someone Was Spying On Us...

As we set up for the above P’tit Bonheur “Proof Of Snow” pic.,
we had a creepy feeling we were being watched. It turns out
we were being spied on. Very carefully, we were able to turn
and face this forest camo'd spy who was very cleverly hidden,
but not hidden well enough to escape our detection, and very
fortunately we were able to snap off a couple of telephoto’s
before the spy took off.

If you’re patient, and quiet, you can find yourself
surrounded by the amazing natural world of Tremblant.

We're going back to Versant Nord, North Side, Trail #82, “Expo”,
for another look at the mogul performance.

We were fortunate to meet up with a local friend who does
not mind helping us illustrate Expert level terrain utility and
this sequence taken on the Expo Pitch at mid descent, pretty
much captures the “Spring” available now in this very popular
local favourite.

We always gratefully appreciate any opportunity to showcase
trails with well executed technique because it shows just what
kind of experience you can have if you can bring these skill sets
to Tremblant.

Basically, You Can Make Your Own Snowstorm...

The important thing to note here is the consistency of
this descent in terms of the steady pitch angle and
the relative evenness of the mogul size, spacing and
softness that lends itself to easily establishing a rhythm
over your run. What has brought Expo to this level of
quality started way back last December 2018 when
Mountain Crews used the permanently plumbed
snowmaking to create huge deposits of snow that
subsequently get milled flat. So, the base on this trail
has been this good since just about the moment it opened,
right up to, and including “Now”, for about 4 months straight.
The Expo pitch periodically gets winch groomed which also
helps keep it in reliable condition.

4.21.19 Apres Ski Edit Insert: To add perspective to the
above Expo Trail Performance sequence, here is a “Big
Picture” of the Expo Trail, seen from the base, looking
up to the peak of this trail and sector. The sequence was
about midpoint up the upper mogul’d pitch.

“In The Good Old Days”... Expo was never this good, or this
consistent, ever. Before the advent of what we call the “Big
Bump Theory” of trail base construction using the giant
snowmaking bumps to fill in the length and breadth of the
upper Expo pitch, the irregular ground of this slope, consisting
of jagged rock, rock cliffs, stumps, and all manner of nasty
natural hazards, might be really well covered for a handful
of weeks somewhere around mid-February. Now, Expo is
generally wonderful from the moment it Opens, ’til Last Run.
That’s tomorrow.

Conditions Notes:

We’re hoping we get to keep the speed all day.

For average Skiers, including Beginners and Intermediates,
saturation levels are critical for any spring conditions performance
and enjoyment.

It’s less critical for Experts who can revert to steeper terrain for
gravity assist, however mogul skills of a highly refined nature
are required.

It’s important to note that not all Experts are Expert within all
terrain categories, so with that proviso, precautionary notice should
be given to suitability for even very experienced skiers who
have expertise in narrow preferences that may not include quite
so much affinity for bumps that are pretty much universal in the
steep terrain.

There are some slow zones where topographical contours allow
pooling, but for the most part, they are very visible due to
the “Blue” tinged colour that these areas take on when water
is present at high proportions, consequently, they have been
easy to navigate around.

--------- 10:13 A.M. Update -----------

Early morning feedback on conditions from
T360 Fans attending specifically states there
is still good speed in the surfaces and that it’s
basically a carry-over from yesterday. We would
add a “So-Far” caveat to that because it’s still
foggy overcast, so there’s not yet been any
significant solar energy directly applied.

Sorry for delays in posting this A.M., however
very challenging, amateur-unfriendly, semi-foggy,
ambient light quality for photography took up
about 4 times the normal pic. processing time
for the images we wanted to use for today and
it’s still ongoing.

Page under very gradual progressive assembly
due to end-of-season logistical tasks and
aforementioned very prolonged image processing.

Basic summary is totally Spring super soft conditions
across all skill level and trail ratings, but fortunately,
at least up to last run yesterday, the speed is still alive
as the seasonal frost seems to be supporting the trail
network base from below.

We’re hoping the saturation levels don’t get into the
sticky zone for today. Updates as available.

Thanks for your visit and we look forward to having
you back whenever you can.

want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
