T360 Apres Ski Edit @ 10:30 P.M.

To start with, just because it’s
so Super-Naturally Beautiful...

Legitimately Fine, Expert Terrain, Open
On Totally Natural Snow.

The Ecole Sur Neige Instructor with the group of
kids you see above, informed us that this trail, #65, Banzai,
was "Really Very Good”, and all the Kidz agreed!

Secondly, we want to continue our review of newly opened Sissy
Schuss as Day-2 of a continuing trail “Case Study”, from last
nights Apres Ski. The reason is to illustrate just what a dramatic
difference 1 night of professional grooming can do for an initially
smooth, but chunky Day-1 Opening.

The answer is a dramatic improvement. As noted, was smooth to begin with,
now it’s smooth and as well, those initial particles have been reduced
to either a more dust-like icing-sugar snow, or clumps of icing-sugar
snow that break up on contact with no resistance what-so-ever.
We think this is primarily overnight grooming, but we think it is
also, to an uncertain degree, due to a very chilly and windy overnight
that essentially freeze-dried the new trails and generated a far more
powdery and deeper top layer for a far more refined carving performance
experience. The result is very, very good, right from the top Park
Modules.

The bottom half of the main Expo Peak descent is trail # 78,
Fuddle-Duddle, Bas, Lower. The 3 following pic’s are all similarly
fuzzy focus affected due to flat, grey, low contrast, overcast
ambient daylight, but they do convey “Smooth Speed” very well,
and those qualities of surface refinement span the entire descent
to the base of the Expo Quad/Versant Nord/North Side base.

If you think any of these look “Fast”, that’s because it is “Fast”.

There was a huge and very positive transformation in these trail surfaces
overnight. They went from Day-1 smooth, fast, but chunky, to Day-2 Smooth
fast and silky, with very noticeably better lateral traction. Carving with
high angles of attack would reliably hold weight loaded edges through
complete turning phases, moving these trails immediately up to the
top group of the early season performance scales.

No matter what your style is, “Fast” is “Fast”,
all you need to do is work on the Skills to control it...

This Last Apres Ski Pic. contains several clues for where and why you’re
going to find the Best Skiing in the Laurentian’s in the days to follow!!!(**)

(**) Notwithstanding the “Spring-Like” “+”C weather forecast for Monday
and Tuesday until about noon, when the temp’s drop back sub-zero.
Oh well, it’s still technically “Fall”, so temp oscillations across Zero C are
totally normal and we’ll enjoy some super-shred tomorrow with the
good ‘ole “Keep ‘em dry” Descente Poncho....

At these very close to Zero C Base level temps., the Mountain could
have cool enough to make snow up above, or... the rainy bits may
not cross Tremblant for long, or at all?. In roughly 80% of similar
previous weather profiles like this, the Mountain has far drier and
cooler weather than the Base levels. Of course we could be wrong,
but Spring Soft, wet or not, will be fun anyway!

We’ll just have to see what the morning brings...

It is possible we may see the Open Trail List get temporarily
reduced to protect surfaces if the weather gets too wet.

53(*) Open Trails on Sud/South, Nord/North and Edge Sectors at #Tremblant .

Wow, Over 20 Newly Opened Trails In 48 Hours!

Despite the busy Resort Base 24Hour Children’s Charity Event
activity, out on the Trails it’s not crowded at all, and there have
been zero lift lines with continuous ski-right-on, rapid transit service.

the 24 Hour Children’s Charity Fundraiser Start Gate, adjacent to
the Gondola Offload. You can see the course heading off to the
right side of this POV, down the Summit Trail # 2, La Crete.

There were many times we had to wait minutes at a time, for people to appear
so we could show them in the distance to add human scale to pic’s, point being
that most of the day, you felt as though you had the trails to yourself.

Weather Notes:

Rising temps and snow are certainly good signs for today,
especially when combined with the re-opening of Public
Recreational Skiing onto the immaculate surfaces of the
24Hour Children’s Charity Course.

All this tremendous expansion of new terrain could receive
a re-set starting tomorrow, just after lunch, if the forecast
is accurate. Snow may well turn into a 24hr somewhat rainy
period that may yield a very quick “Spring-Like” experience.

Ultimately we never see these perfectly normal late Fall
temp oscillations as negative because they help to blend
and solidify the base into a more resilient foundation beneath
the big snow’s of Winter yet to come.

Conditions Notes:

Big, Big, BIG Day of Major Sector Indicators as Versant Nord,
North Side Trails # 64 & 65, Marie-Claude Asselin and Banzai
are OPEN for first time this season.

Anyone who has been a regular to our reports knows how
significant these two trail openings are because they rely
completely on Natural Snow accumulations to Open. We
call them “Canaries In The Coal Mine” as figurative signs
of the very best sector health in the form of abundant
Natural Snow.

They will not be perfect, it’s still early season, so the base
is not super deep yet, but with careful Line-of-sight, reduced
speed navigation, you can minimize hazard exposure and
have great Expert fun on these Super-Naturally beautiful trails.
As former T-bar Lift lines, they have engineered perfectly straight
fall lines and over recent seasons have been laterally expanded to
accommodate current Groomer widths. Grooming is not yet shown,
so they will be very much in an early season raw format, but there
are loads of nostalgic Ski hounds that love them this way, so if
you are one of those folks, it’s Open Season!

This MCA/Banzai reference is only one example of the rapid
expansion of Open Terrain. Be sure to check out the Archival
copy of the Official Trail Status report below to see if your
favourites are open. A hint of near-term, i.e., “Soon” to open
is the Snowmaking Icons on closed trails, indicating “Under
Construction”. Keep an eye on these trails for upcoming openings.

Check This Out!!!

Versant Nord, North Side Open Sample,
Trail # 94, La Griffe, Big-Bump OPEN!

If you “Like” Big Bump Snow Park Terrain, you’re going to LOVE this!!!

Other noteworthy Nord/North Open’s:
- Windigo
-Le Tunnel

Other General Conditions Notes:

New Open Terrain can have highly variable initial conditions
ranging from silky soft smooth(#) to large particle chunky smooth(#)
in the groomed category, and “Who Knows What” early season
a la Carte’ in the Un-Groomed au Natural category.

(#)Default Smooth is excellent. No one can do anything about
the weather that generates unique initial trail snow composition,
but “Smooth” makes anything easier

Please Note: Matching Terrain Rating, i.e, Green, Blue, Black, to actual
Skill Level is critical for safe navigation. If you are part of a group, do
the right thing and keep your Beginner Friends safe.

As usual... Page under gradual, progressive assembly as time permits.

Thanks for both your visit and patience.

The bottom line we’d like to emphasize this morning is
the faulty notion that this 24 Chilren's Charity Event Weekend
is overcrowded and/or hard to navigate with big traffic.

That is just not true.

It has been Ski-on so far for the entire Event time this season,
as it was for last season, and the season before that.

For sure, 15 to 20 years ago, there were times when it was
super busy, but recent seasons indicate that there are no longer
lift lines or traffic congestion anywhere in the publicly open
terrain. Increased Lift capacity and way more compensating
Open Trail/Terrain are both beneficial factors that may be contributing.

For sure also, is the fact that there is a lot of activity and unusual
traffic flows around the Resort Base that are consistent with the
conduct of the biggest Winter Ski/Board Charity Fundraiser in
North America, and maybe the World(?), but as far as the Open
Public Slopes, so-far, it’s been easy and comparatively quiet out
on the trails.
