12/4/21 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Late Prime Time, Quick Apres Ski Edit At 9:55 P.M.

This will give you some idea why the use of camera
was impractical for a large portion of the day.

It ain’t no fancy action shot, unless you count
all the falling snow, or the rushing stream...
but... it was from the shelter of a car, through
an open window.

Whenever the snow is that thick we risk loss of camera as
the control buttons get soaked into default shut-down mode
so there are not many pic’s from today.

“Too Much Snow” ??? Never !!!

The snowfall intensity lasted over the Mountain footprint
to variable degrees from about 10:30 A.M.???, and at the
Summit, there was a considerable degree of pea-soup fog
so thick you could not see 5 metres in front of your nose.

Skiing was excellent!!!

Exactly as expected... exactly as forecast...

There were periodic lulls in the fog thickness when
you could see a wee bit further... but not much further...

Repeat: The Skiing was excellent!!!

Tomorrow: Sunny, -5C forecast, low wind speed,
a classic early winter Tremblant Sunday. Go if you can!

16(*) Open Trails On Summit-To-Base Sud/South, and Nord/North Sectors At #Tremblant .

It’s “Thumbs Up” For Newly Opened
Versant Sud/South Side Ski-Out To Resort Base!

We could not agree more. When the Local’s are giving you
unsolicited “Thumbs Up”, you know everything is on the
right track, literally. This brings us to an end of the Gondola
downloading period of the initial opening phase, a hugely
positive logistical jump overnight that immediately elevates
the Resort to “Fully Open”.

The condition of Beauvallon Bas/Lower, right from the TGV
Quad Base, down to and including the Johannsen pitch, right
to the Gondola base, is excellent for Opening Day.

The traction and speed were superb, very much like mid-winter.
There is more work to be done to add to the fullness of width, but
the main thing is the access. Additions to coverage will probably
come over the next short while as Mountain Crews prepare the
Sud/South Resort Base for the upcoming 24 Hour Children’s
Charity Fundraiser.

Of course the still active snowmaking needs a bit of care for clear
navigation, however the ambient temperature coolness and the low
humidity of the wind meant that the output was quite dry right out
of the guns, so for the most part it just bounced off your goggle lens.

Weather Notes:

Winter today and tomorrow, but looks like a warm and wet one
on Monday. If, if, if... the temps trend downward between now
and then, you might be able to see a repeat of this past Wed/Thurs.
where base level rainy was actually Mountain elevation snowy.

Conditions Notes:

We think there should be a high degree of incremental refinement
across the groomed array today. It is day-2 of a really good little
cold-snap and that, combined with the recent construction-grade
heavy natural snowfall that’s been integrated into the base over
Thursday’s Apres Ski grooming shift, very beneficially raised the
overall quality overnight.

Yesterday saw some exceptionally fine performance zones, the best
we’ve seen so far this season, and we expect the range of that quality
to substantially expand over all groomed terrain for today.

Generally and Below:

There are a few cautionary notes. We are suggesting all initial
explorations be done with reduced speeds until you can establish
complete safety down individual descent lines. Yesterday did see
some very dense snowpack, which was totally understandable,
but in those areas, tuned edges and absolute slower speed control
were essential. Fortunately, the default was completely “Smooth”,
and this shot below taken from the overhead Lowell Thomas Quad,
is one example where there were very firm/solid surfaces that
needed speed-checking to prevent runaway gravitational forces
from causing loss of control.

It should be noted that grooming last night may have rendered
out every bit of the solid bits, but the point is, verify that first with
a slow speed test run, before you go ripping around.

Versant Nord/North Side La Traverse(#73) is adjacent to Rigodon(#69),
which is listed as a “Progressive” open today. You can see that the
primary grooming work had already started on Rigodon yesterday, so
there should not be much of a delay for this to open today. It may be
a bit on the chunky side for the first tracks but it will respond very
quickly to traffic and its first overnight grooming.

At this stage of every new season, the Open Trail List can be
what we refer to as “Dynamic”, in the sense that it can not
only change overnight, it can change during the day’s open
hours as well. For that reason, we recommend consults with
the unique Tremblant “Info. Ski" Crews wearing their distinctive
uniforms with the huge “?” on the back. They are “Radio Controlled”,
so asking questions about any trail status intel can get you answers, now.

We check with them every single day, and this shot below, taken at
“Last Run”, with the early sunset shadows of the shortest days of the
year, is following a check-in we typically make at the end of the day
to ask about Mountain terrain updates.

Traffic scenario’s for today are a bit unpredictable, it is a weekend
so that would suggest “busy”, however, it is also December and
we know a lot of folks who are staying home to get Christmas chores
done because of their concerns that “last minute” is not a good idea
with the Covid-19 effect on supply chains. We’ll just have to wait and
see, but it would not surprise us either way.

It should also be noted that snowfall is expected to start before noon.
Depending on how much and how quickly snow falls, there may be
a substantial acceleration in easy glide, grip and smoothness qualities.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
