" Tremblant in the 60's, 70's & 80's!!! "
Every once-in-a-while we run across a Tremblant History reference
that we just have to include here for archival completeness. The
link(attached below) to this post is one of the highest orders of Tremblant
historical references because it represents a good portion of what we
would consider to be easily accessible history from a period of time
that did not have the benefit of the early hardcover Tremblant books
published, nor the latest mass collective of internet information you'll
get swamped with in a Google search.
We're talking about what we've considered to be the somewhat lost
era of the 1960's, 70's and 80's. An era that saw the true expansion
and popularity of Alpine Skiing as a result of the Baby Boomer Generation
that was introduced to the sport by their parents. For the sake of future
Historians, we think it is the parents of the Baby Boomers who are the
founders of the modern era of Alpine Skiing and who more specifically
in our small world, built Tremblant from the ground up, beginning
in 1938.
The Baby Boomers took to Skiing like Ducks take to Water and they anchored
Skiing in a modern social context as a wholly substantiated way of life.
We can not recall seeing any 1930's 40's or 50's references to the term
"Ski Bum", but certainly, by the late 1960's, and definitely by the 1970's
the moniker "Ski Bum" had earned as much social status, maybe even more,
than a PHD.
If the 1930', 40's and 50's made Skiing "Fashionable"...
....the 1960's, 70's and 80's made Skiing "Cool".
We've never made it a secret that a significant component of the
http://www.tremblant360.com purpose is to be a place where 25, 50, 75
or 100 years or more from now, students of Social History,
Behaviours and Demographics can come to a place and find as
complete a window as our meagre resources permits into the
fascinating dynamic of 20th and 21st Century Tremblant .
We hope they look at our archived, daily Mountain Conditions Journal du Jour
as well as all the various other topics like this one, and discuss(amongst other
things)....
"Look at how those people lived"... "Look at the equipment they used"...
"Their techniques are so quaint".... "Boy, They sure dressed funny..."
"Look at how they interacted with each other, Mother Nature...."
"Look at the Hair... !!! ", "What the hell is a "Jet Turn" ???"
"Look... There's a pair of K-2 Ballet's .... I thought Twin-Tips were
invented after 2000?"(.... ahhhh, no, next season will be almost our 40th
year of doing "Tip Rolls", thank you very much...).
Every Ski Hill/Mountain that's been around for the last 40, 50, 60 or more
years had, and still has it's community. In truth, they could all tell similar
tales, but this site is dedicated to the History of Tremblant, so this link
is of vital importance for those armchair Indiana Jones's of the future who
want to "see" and "hear" the sights and voices of those who were just lucky
enough to grow up here when being a good Skier was cool, and being a
good Skier that got to Ski Tremblant was very cool.
We "Shared" this group on our Facebook page and for the "Share" we wrote:
This is a Genuine Gem of Tremblant History, but additionally it is a
Gem of Tremblant Community! "Esprit de corps" only begins to describe
the obvious sense of respect, connection and affection evident in this
groups posts. Bravo Tremblant in the 60's, 70's & 80's!!! Group !!!
Absolutely Brilliant, Magnifique !!!
Please Note: at this point in time, Facebook does not permit any significant
indexing of topic or subject matter. It is more-or-less a chronological stack of
postings so it has the random order of spontaneous conversation and you will
need to scroll through quite a bit or use key-word searches to examine the
full range of content.
We hope to have more on this excellent resource in future if it's possible,
but regardless, it's a great window into its time-frame focus and we encourage
you to visit for a fascinating time capsule view.
