12/12/13 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Ski Edit. Data Entry Commencing @ 7:15 P.M. and
continuing onward from that point.

It was Kkkold early this morning, ....if you think -22C is cold.

All we can say on that is we're just warming up to Winter, so
we'll get used to that, and besides, it warmed up to a balmy -14
after lunch, and then the Snow rolled in to add a nice ambiance.

Below: Looking at the La Traverse entrance off Lowell Thomas.
It looks smooth, because it is smooth. It's as smooth as a quiet
Lake in the morning after a windless night.

Mountain Crews have done an outstanding job. Pic. Taken in very
heavy snowfall from the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair going up.

Cold Morning, or not so cold afternoon, Conditions were Wicked Fast
and Mega-Traction Action, Everywhere!

It is very easy snow to look good on. All skill levels will find
this super easy to handle and very responsive to Steering,
Braking, and Speed Control. Carving is addictively fun for
those High Performance fans who have muscle enough to
hang on to the centrifugal force of Warp Drive Carving.
Learning is a breeze for Newbies who will find basic
manoeuvres easy to execute with confidence.

All the surfaces are a beautifully integrated Natural Snow over the
solid base and in all our travels today we found only 1 icy patch,
about 4 metres in diameter, just below the Beauchemin crest at the
entrance to the Edge.

There's no question you had to be dressed for it, but no one who was here
could deny that the Skiing and Boarding were universally fine on the Open,
Groomed Terrain.

On the un-groomed it was a different story in some cases, as without
blown snow or grooming support Banzai, for example, was definitely
"Experts Only". With some natural hazards typical of early season,
Banzai required focused attention to navigate safely.

Regardless of your Skill level, or terrain choice, the feeling of Winter
with Snow back in the trees made for very pleasant, scenic surroundings.

Below: Duncan was Open and just as fast and fine as other
Groomed Trails. As a matter of fact, Duncan, in all it's new
and fresh Opening is in arguably better shape than it can be
on some mid-winter days after high volume traffic. It is virtually
unused right now and that absence of wear and tear has it
in almost ideal condition.

A Basic Summary of Today could be:

"Something For Everyone"

...and that will be extended right through the weekend.

More later... if pic. processing time permits.

PLEASE NOTE: PRELIMINARY Open Trails for Tomorrow,
Attached Below in Reply. SUBJECT TO MORNING CONFIRMATIONS.

Amazing, Fine, Fun and Beautiful. If you had spent all day
looking for Glitches, you might have seen these two twigs above,
but that's about all.

The Official Stat's say 8 CM of Fresh Snow,
BUT....

We can tell you for a fact, that there are big, big sections of
Tremblant's Upper North Side that got far more.

(We're hoping Level Gloves will want to "Sponsor" us to "Test" a New Pair
for this little word play we use their gloves for from time to time!!
We've had these for so many seasons we can't believe they're still going
on so warm and strong. Important on a day like today that starts out "Cool".)

Two things about this P'tit Bonheur Pic Below:

1) The tasty little powder turns shown on Screen Left, are within 3 metres
of the "On The Level Proof Of Snow", above.

2) It's the Reason Banzai and Marie-Claude Asselin are "OPEN" this morning!

BUT WAIT .... There's MORE ! ! !

Duncan Shown "PROGRESSIVE" OPEN Today!

The Ghostly image of Duncan under Snowcloud by hand held Telephoto
from the Expo Quad Off-load Zone, renders out this spooky, snowy scene
that leaves no doubt of loads of fresh Winter White.

Above: From Under the Duncan Quad Chair, Left to Right, this pic.
shows Duncan Haut(upper), Marie-Claude Asselin, Banzai and
Lowell Thomas....

AND THEY ALL GOT REALLY BIG SNOW!!!
---------------------------------------

(Duncan was Open yesterday afternoon too, so we hope the Progressive status
will clear quickly, and we will definitely get back to you on that in Apres Ski.)

IF you went from the Top of Expo, where the pic above is from,
and proceeded to go to the very top spot you can see in that shot,
you are at the Duncan Quad entrance to Lowell Thomas, and you
could look down and see this Below:

The Skiing and Boarding are Heavenly. It's Cool out, for sure, but
bundle up and go anyway...

because like fine Champagne...

The Best Snow is served Well Chilled!

Nothing Skis so Satin Smooth as Cold Crisp Snow and
Tremblant has that by either the Acre or by the Ton ....take your pick!

Today's Weather...

It got really cold last night, down to -27C, or something like that, but
fortunately, we don't Ski at 2:00 A.M., so this morning's bright Sunshine
sees us at -20 C with so-far light Southerly breezes coming across the
Summit from the Soleil Side moving toward Nansen. There will be
thermal/solar energy to be felt in quiet Trail-side breaks below the Summit.

The benefit from the over-night lows now, will be the Cryogenically treated
Snow Surfaces that always respond to Freeze-Drying with superb
performance qualities. The grip levels for the next number of days
will be Mid-Winter Wonderful on the Open Terrain.

The daytime high forecasted at -14C and it could become Cloudy with
Snow by "Last Run"!

Bundle up today, and similar for the weekend.

Hint:
If you're wondering what the Weekend Additional "Open Trail List"
might be expanded to include, look at the "Snowmaking" Icons above for a
very rough Guesstimate. No Guarantee's, just possibilities.

Skiing at Tremblant right now is like being in some sort of surreal
Winter Magic PostCard.

Spectacular Views over Superb Early Season Conditions
Should Not Be Missed If You Can Make It Out. PERIOD.

P.S. Our Thanks... to the entire Mountain Operations Group
who have been working around the clock,
"Like a House on Fire", errr, a
"Groomer on Fire", to deliver outstanding results!

Above: Hot Rod Grooming at Tremblant! Snow-dust in the Powerful
H.I.D. lighting of the Pinroth Bison Packer/Groomer looks like Fire in
Stop-Action, Night-time photography. We had no idea this one would
turn out at all, but from shear Luck, we think it's a Cool Shot anyway!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
