In last eve's Apres Ski we speculated there might have been
a few more Open Trails because of all the recent natural and
newly blown Snow, however we also stated we could be wrong,
so this mornings number proves our Theories incorrect.

But.... the Snow has not gone anywhere, in fact there's between
3 and 5 CM more, so we're "Holding Our Breath", moderately
confident that we'll see some additional Open Trails really soon.

There's just Way Too Much Snow Around Here!

That's why we refer above to "Daily Refined" because if the
Numbers are the same, or at least similar to yesterday's, over-night
Grooming should have those Trails so designated, in superb condition.

Below: We're putting this one in because it says a lot about all the
Tremblant Groomed Surface Characteristics.

The Skier is carrying a fair bit of Speed, maybe even a bit much, but
also simultaneously Braking and Steering with one half of a Snowplow
to bring it all back under control. At that very instant, the Surface Quality
becomes totally apparent.

The Groomed surfaces are very responsive to any control inputs
making these Conditions absolutely a (Responsible)High Speed
Carving Delight.

Moving On... To Un-Groomed

Conditions Caveat:

The un-Groomed is a mixed combination of tracked 'n packed by
Krazzzy Kidzz, and Expert Level traffic. There are hazards such
as uneven mogul formations, some small twigs, tree shoots,
the odd Precambrian rock underfoot, for examples. The main thing
to remember at this stage is that in the un-Groomed, all natural
Snow zones, it's still only December 19th, not February 19th, so you
can't expect the total base depth that the fully mature Season should have.

It's very, very good for December 19th, but still early.

We still recommend caution with speed for initial explorations of
un-Groomed Experts Only "Black" rated Open Terrain. Also, due to
the aforementioned still early base, you can't assume things will
be the same the next time over the same terrain. Traffic can reveal
hazards on an increasing basis, particularly on some of the more
popular Runs.

In this respect, two of the "Canaries In The Coal Mine", i.e. indicators
of the good state of Natural Snow Trail conditions, might be when you
see Banzai or Marie-Claude Asselin added to the Groomed list.

If/When there's enough Snow to run a Groomer down Banzai, you know
the base is gettin' deep!

Le Tunnel is usually left for Mogul Hounds all Season long, so even
though it's next door to Banzai and MCA, it's not a "Tell Tale" Trail
the same way.

Some Other Way Positive Indicator Examples ... (from the Archival Copy of Todays
Open Trails, See Below) ....

Ryan's Double Black... OPEN !!!

Snowmaking on Sissy Schuss!!!

La Griffe .... OPEN !!!

Todays Weather :

MORE SNOW, fairly mild Mid-Day high temp at -4 C, with a Moderate
South, swinging around to West wind, so starting out moving across
the Summit from the Soleil Sector towards La Crete, then forecast to shift
and come up over Taschereau, headed towards Lowell Thomas.

The Summit winds are gusty and a fair bit stronger than at base levels
so you'll still want to bundle up a bit, but wow, a lot easier to take
than -20's -18 C's of recent few.

For Weekend Planners... Continued Mild Winter Temps, right through to
Christmas Eve. Probably Overcast, Probably MORE SNOW!

Hope to have some Apres Ski, may be late, if possible, but
a lot of Out of Office Christmas Season activities going on...
You know how it is.... we'll be keepin' an eye on the Preliminary
Open List for tomorrow, so we'll try to get that up at least.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
