86/95(*) Open Trails!
Today's extension of Yesterday's Sunny Conditions means that the
overnight Grooming will start to catch up with the softness that's
been on a lot of Trails due to the unusual depth of Early Season
Snow over the last 3 weeks or so.
We've lost count of the exact number of "Winter Storm Warnings",
which are all very happy problems for a Ski Resort. Snow, Snow, Snow
and then some more Snow.
It might not be a record, but it's way, way above average, that's for sure.
Conditions Caveat:
Today's Surfaces will see improved, refined smoothness as well
as more even compaction, however....
The Grooming process over a period of days represents incremental
increases in Surface Compaction or density, but the period immediately
following massive amounts of snow can be prone to softness and we're
still experiencing that in zones where the wind drifted depth has been greater.
To be sure, there are also zones that were facing the winds frontally where
less, in some cases, no snow was retained on the wide open trail surfaces,
so it can be anything from hard-pack, to icy.
The bottom pitch to the final plateau of Nansen was a case-in-point example
yesterday. Great Traction all the way down, then this little "Slick" portion,
right below the crest. These little surface anomalies occur naturally and
they can happen even after a big snowfall.
Busy Holiday Traffic can affect those areas during the day, so we recommend
Cautious Care on steeper pitches, in narrow, high traffic passageways, over crests
and at all Trail intersections.
Case Study, Trail Upgrade/Improvements: Beauchemin Bas, Lower.
This is an example of how Trail conditions are upgraded on a massive scale.
Four days or so ago, we reported an icy section on Beauchemin Bas, Lower
right below the entrance to the Edge Sector.
That has all been completely re-done.
Besides being a Super Scenic Tremblant Nord, North Side View....
This pic. below shows on Screen Left, the entrance to the Edge. Looking
closely, you can see the stakes and orange ropes closing off Beauchemin
which is running off to the right. You can also see a series of Snowmaking
Big Bumps running down Beauchemin below the orange ropes.
Moving down towards the Edge entrance, but still looking down
Beauchemin, here's a closer view of the Big Bumps. The icy bits
we reported on were under where the big bumps are in this one.
Today this is all wide, flat and smooth, fresh corduroy.
Bottom Line on this point....
When the conditions warrant, Tremblant Mountain Crews can
move quickly, with large scale corrections.
The Expo Big Bump Terrain Park.
Over the seasons, we've heard all kinds of debate
about whether or not to groom the Big Bumps, where-ever
they are, including Expo. Eventually, of course, they do
get milled flat, but in the mean-time there are many that
do like to Ski/Board them.
If you're sitting in Heathfield, East Sussex, United Kingdom,
maybe Boston Mass. U.S.A., or Port Hope, Ontario...
and you're looking at the Tremblant web cams, you might see this...
This is how it looks, on the ground at Tremblant, right now.
Your Kidz'll love it!

Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.
( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
