Above: Trail #81 Versant Nord, North Side "Buzz".

It's only December 27th and this North Side Glade run off the top
of the EXPO sector that may not be open in an average year until
mid-to-late January is not only Open now, but it's open in Great Shape!

Tremblant is way ahead of an average season's opening
and therefore worthy of every effort you can make to get out
for all the fine Alpine Snow Sport days you can fit in.

But there sure are TONS 'O SNOW!!!

Hey... it's a "Ski Resort" ...

...we'll trade Sunshine for Snow any day!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------

The "Break In Period"...

Yesterday we made a reference to the "Break In" process of newly Opened
Terrain. In that specific case we were talking about the Newly Opened Soleil
Sector.

Two weeks ago today, there were only 35(*) Open trails, so with today's 84,
and yesterdays end-of-day at 89 open trails, it's not hard to realize that
there's been a tremendous increase in Open Terrain in a very brief period
of time, and furthermore, as the Season establishes itself, that there are
minor tweaks up and down as the days and the snow go by.

So then, after thinking about what we wrote with respect to Soleil, we
concluded that in a "Big Picture' sense, the "Break In" theory still applies
to all of Tremblant's Open terrain at this still early point, just over
a week, ten days or so, that we are Officially into "Winter" as defined by
Meteorologists.

Conditions within any time frame reference of a Ski Season are relative.
You would never expect the December Base to compare directly with the
February Base, for example, however, within all the "December" references
we can recall at Tremblant, this one certainly is considerably above
average and that fact alone generates much Positive support.

We are often accused of being "Too Positive", but what true Fan of
ANY sport or pursuit is not similarly referred to at some point?

"Enthusiasm" is frequently used as part of common definitions of "Fan(s)",
so we will not let any criticisms diminish our enthusiasm for the
very fine Conditions we're enjoying at Tremblant right now.

What we want to point out is that our enthusiastic and very positive
points of view are within the context of the Still early December time
frame and we're very very happy to have such comparatively excellent
Skiing, and yet highly aware that there are still "Break In" process factors
that we will experience for a while yet.

And Then There's That "Skill Level" Thing....

O.K., so we're enthusiastic, we Ski all conditions, but obviously
Beginners and Intermediates in most cases, will be having a totally
different perspective.

We need to remember that with every entry we make here, and we
sincerely try to do that, which is one of the reasons we frequently
feature the most User-Friendly Tremblant Terrain, like Nansen or
P'tit Bonheur in both Text and Pictures.

Simple, Brilliant Nansen can make you better,
Directly applicable to all Skill Levels.

SINCE 1939, this Simple, Brilliant, Trail System(that can be linked to form
a total 6.2 Kilometre Descent Path), has been a favourite of all Skill Levels
of Serious Tremblant Alpine Snow Sports Athletes, and for excellent reasons.

Try doing 4 Laps an Hour, Summit to Base of Nansen for 2 or 3 hours
and we think you'll eclipse what ever you could get out of any Gym on
the planet by a power of 10 with the total body involvement, including
not only the raw muscle endurance that results in vastly improved strength
and fitness over extended periods of time and Training Cycles, but....

.....PLUS, PLUS, PLUS it also includes the beneficial exercise of very high
speed Neurological processing to maintain a self-gyroscopic, dynamic balance
in the high speed execution of the moves and skills of the sport.

The simultaneous employment of these cognitive/physiological skills in a
manor that can safely co-ordinate the human machine to Ski at High Speed
Training Levels of Sustained Physical Output, has been shown to improve
overall health and resistance to age related deterioration in numerous well
documented ways.

Training for Safe, High Performance, Endurance Skiing, Supported by
Appropriate Rest and Nutrition/Fuel, Is Good For You.

Sorry about the focus... but after looking at it for a while, it does
illustrate the Grip Levels on the Groomed Trails at Tremblant.

With this much Surface Grip, Traction is easy. The Muscle
gets stronger and better control with extended Training Cycles.

--------------- Conditions Caveats: ----------------

Today's Surfaces will see improved, refined smoothness as well
as more even compaction, however....

The Grooming process over a period of days represents incremental
increases in Surface Compaction or density, but the period immediately
following massive amounts of snow can be prone to softness and we're
still experiencing that in zones where the natural snow depth has been greater.
To be sure, there are also zones that were facing the winds frontally, where
less, in some cases, no snow was retained on the wide open trail surfaces,
so it can be anything from hard-pack, to icy. These surface anomalies
occur naturally and they can happen even after a big snowfall, particularly
when there is wind component.

Busy Holiday Traffic can affect those areas during the day, so we recommend
Cautious Care with Absolute Speed Control on steeper pitches, in narrow,
high traffic passageways, over crests and at all Trail intersections.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

------------ Archival Web Cam Snap Shots ------------------

We had requests for "Holiday Line Ups" info.
so we grabbed a few Web Cam Snap Shots
to provide an idea.

This was the longest line we saw all day and we estimate the wait time
at aprox. 15 Minutes, Multi Line and about 8 Minutes in Singles line.
