1/1/14 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

93(*) Open Trails at Tremblant, just 2 short of 95(*)"Full Open".

Happy New Year!

We're already off to a good start.

A Year ago today we had 88(*) over 184 CM's of accumulation.

This Seasons Accumulation to today is 193 CM's, so we're ahead of the game
on that most important dimension, with prospects for more snow forecast
by the weekend.

Please note: @ -29C under Brilliant Sunshine,

....It's a full Cold Weather Alert this morning.

Yesterday we wrote a whole whacky thing on the benefits of
Cold Snow because there's absolutely nothing we can do about the
weather, so why not try to focus on the positive advantages of it.

It is what it is.... and we're going to Ski regardless, so making the best
of it seems like the most reasonable thing to do.

Of course all the "Nay Sayers", people who like to complain out of
habit, will be scoffing at us and muttering about "Cold is Cold'
or something like that... but we encourage you to ignore them
because negative vibes are counterproductive to successfully
adapting to Cold Weather and enjoying the very fine, high performance
quality of these pristine Groomed Surfaces.

Can't remember the exact number, but we think it's "Tremblant360 Rules
of Winter Skiing/Boarding, No. 5" ... no matter, it states ...

"Those That Can Adapt the Quickest, Have The Most Fun."

Take the time to dress appropriately, put a Smile on your face and
head out anyway. You will not be disappointed with the Skiing/Boarding
to the contrary, Skiing and Boarding will be wonderful.

The Freshly Groomed Trails may well be the Best Of Season, so far.

It is inevitable... that with all this Abundant Fresh Snow, Plus... Daily Grooming
Cycles, there is an incremental improvement each and every day.

The Un-Groomed Expert only Trails will be very good for this still early
period in the base accumulation. There will be some natural hazards,
and care, caution and absolute speed and braking control are essential on
first explorations, but with that said ....

The Un-Groomed will be to variable degrees, a matter of perception.

The Tremblant Ski Patrol has hand posted signage on some Un-Groomed
Terrain that basically says: "Marginal Conditions", we saw some that even
stated that Skiing was "Not Recommended" in newly Posted Open Terrain.

However, Mountain User Feedback indicates a different perception.

This is an Excerpt from a #Tremblant Social Media Posting regarding
Expert Un-Groomed Trails.

" "Conditions marginales" ... Marginalement excellente vous voulez dire "

Unofficial Translation:

" "Marginal conditions" ... Marginally excellent you mean "

Obviously, the enthusiastic contradiction implies that this Mountain User
feels the Conditions are greatly different, IN A GOOD WAY, from the posted
signage.

We agree. Our experience in the Un-Groomed Expert Terrain is that it is
very fine for this point in time. No, it's not the end of February after 17
winter Blizzards, but to have this depth and coverage now certainly is
Excellent for New Years Day.

A bit sad to see one of the last buildings Joe Ryan built, still in existence,
but being left to decay. Still proudly showing the simple beauty of
period Local Architecture, accented by a deep accumulation of Snow,
the original Versant Nord, North Side Devil's River base lodge
reminds us of the dreams of days gone by, now overshadowed
by modern development.

Be that, as it may... Joe Ryan would be amazed at the quality of the
Trails and their Excellent Conditions today. Nothing between 1939 and
1948 could come close to the refinements of Tremblant's Modern Trail
Infrastructure and the Immaculate Grooming Maintenance.

Cold Weather Advisory for another 48 Hours, then back to "Seasonal"
-15 C Sat./-6 C Sunday.

It's not just us either... Cold Weather Warnings for virtually all
of Eastern North America, in some cases, right back to the Rocky
Mountains.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
