1/8/14 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Middle of the Night-Shift Apres Ski...

61(*) Open Trails on the PRELIMINARY list for tomorrow...
(Subject to Morning Confirmations)

2 Days, 9th, and 10th, of fine winter conditions before another
thermal blip and a 3 day, Long weekend sale on "Spring" style
conditions for Sat, Sun, Mon.

Open Trails Attached below in "Reply".

------------- 8:29 A. M. Orig. Post --------------

51(*) Open Trails on the Quickly Recovering Slopes Of Tremblant.

On our Facebook posting for Yesterday's Conditions we got a very
logical comment(excerpt) "that looks extremely icy from here".

In the specific picture referenced, it was the "Panning" action of the
photographer following the motion of the Skier that created a blurred,
slick looking impression of the surface, when actually, there was
between 7 to 12 CM's of Course to fine Granular Machine Groomed
surface underfoot.

Here's the pic again for reference:

We really appreciate the opportunity to improve
our message, so we wrote(excerpt):

"It's not really icy in this exact spot, although there certainly are
very small icy particles in the content. Looking closely at the loose
material being kicked up into the air behind the Skier gives you some
idea of the average particle size on the ground and in this specific
location at that time, the depth of the top layer might be from 7 to 12
or so CM's. The "Panning" action of the photographer has blurred the
surface which gives it a slick look, but it is actually just uniform,
freshly groomed granular type snow. Firm, Flat and Fast! if it was
really icy, you would not see much of the very fine snow dust that
is so obvious here."

Then, like most Human Beings, we thought about it, and after
considerable deliberation, felt compelled to add:

"For Clarification: There's No Doubt ... you can't take a large
Snow Covered Object, i.e., "A Mountain", raise the temp to +5,
put a bunch of Rain on it, then drop the temp to -18 C in 6 hours
and not have ice. That's the same for any Ski Resort and after this
storm, the whole Eastern Half of North America! Clicking on the link
and reviewing the article attached is the story of how Quickly
Mountain Crews Restore Ski/Board-able Quality and we think that's
the Tremblant advantage. Of course there can still be ice around,
but every day it diminishes substantially with repeated Grooming
and Skier/Board Traffic. Regardless, you'll have a great day at
Tremblant if you're prepared with tuned sharp edges, select appropriate
"Skill Level" terrain, explore carefully, find the "Sweet Spots" and
stick with 'em. We were born as "Optimists" so we also think the
magic/secret ingredient is a "Positive Mental Attitude" towards the
whole experience. In terms of exercise values, the fine balance and
precise application of both strength and endurance skills still beats
any Gym on the Planet and the scenery is spectacular."

In Retrospect, that's pretty much the essence of Today at Tremblant.

Today's Weather...

Cloudy with Sunny Breaks and a daytime high temp @ -12C.
So far, the Summit has been cloud-bound, mostly clear,
but occasionally foggy. The Summit temps are holding at about
-18C.

The winds are South-East at Moderate Speed, so crossing the Summit
from the Duncan/CBC quadrant and headed towards Nansen.

The long range picture shows another "Plus" blip in temps over the
weekend and after what we've been through with those recently,
we're not too excited about that, but we will cope, we will Ski,
and we will continue to make the very best we can out of all
the Open Terrain. We may have a 2 Day Mother Nature Sale on
"Spring" type conditions.

---------- Conditions Caveats ------------------

Be Ready For Anything. Explore Initially With All Due Care
And Reduced Speed Until You Verify Safe Passage.

Bring Sharp, Fresh Edges if you can for Optimal Control
and Safety.

---------------------------------------------------------

The Open Machine Groomed Surfaces will be very good for the most part,
however the concept of careful initial exploration is key to both
the best Utility and most Fun. There can be icy substrates or patches
that need to be located at low speeds first to determine where the best
performance is.

Once you've identified any glitch zones, focus on the Sweet Spots using the
terrain that matches your skills. Lapping will be a great way to combine
fitness and fun today.

There is only one Un-Groomed Expert Black Diamond Trail
on the list today over on Versant Nord, The North Side,
Saute-Mutons Haut, Upper. Other than that, all the Black
Diamond Open Terrain is shown as Groomed.

There are 11 "Progressive" or Gradual Openings on todays Open
Trail List... INCLUDING Soleil!

That would take the total up to 62 Open Trails if they all cleared,
which may or may not happen today, but for sure, there's lot's
more on the way!

Page under "Progressive" assembly.

they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
