1/12/14 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

23(*) Open Trails on the "January Thawed", but not "Gone" Slopes at Tremblant.

"January Thawed", but not "Gone" is an important distinction today
because the Open reductions are not due to loss of coverage that would
eliminate Open terrain, but to Protect, Preserve and Restore
the coverage, which while somewhat diminished in thickness,
is by no means "Gone".

We have theorized all along that the Summit would be exempt to some
degree from the "plus" value, Base Level temps. and we are happy to
report that we were right on that one.

On one hand, the Sub-Zero will make for some Icy Conditions,
but on the other hand, the most valuable part of it is that the
thaw part gets arrested, stopped and turned off.

Bottom Line(s) on this Case Study....

There's no doubt about some Wet/Thermal effects, however...

IT COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE.

Tremblant got off lucky compared to many other Ski Resorts
South of here that experienced much warmer temps and 24 hour
heat and rain exposures.

Moving Forward...

Mountain Crews can regenerate quite fine snow particle size within hours
and we suspect that P'tit Bonheur, Nansen, Beauchemin, and Beauvallon/Alpine
are going to prime examples of the best "User Friendly" surfaces this morning.
They were probably Groomed after the temps went below the freezing mark
in Summit Sectors at about 1:00 A.M. last night.

If you enjoy doing Tremblant Homework....

For a comprehensive idea of how the Restoration/Recovery process
is going to go, use the "Previous Topic" button, upper screen right,
to back to yesterdays Open Trail List and look at the 63 Groomed Trails.

Combine that with the 23 "Progressive" or Gradual Trail Openings on the Open
List below for today, and somewhere out of that combination are the most likely
Trails that you will find added to the "Open" status in the immediate future.

No One can move quicker, or get more Open Terrain back on line sooner,
than the Pro's of Tremblant Mountain Operations.

From this moment forward you will begin to see expansion of the Open list
and some of that will occur during daytime hours. At the "End of the Day",
for at least the next few, we think you'll see more Open than we start out
to begin with.

Weather Forecast Notes:

Of course after going through such a weird week, everybody
kinda gets on edge about the weather, freaking out over "What if's".
Typically though, after a common January Thaw, a period of extended
seasonal weather is entered into. A review of the Long Range 14 day
Forecast certainly supports that notion so far. All we can do is hope
that Mother Nature is ready to settle down for a while.

We can not remember a week with so many
Heat Cycles, Deep Freeze Cycles, Weather Warnings,
Flood Warnings, etc., etc., etc.

We're not alone though, as THE ENTIRE NORTH AMERICAN CONTINENT has
seen the effects of these dramatic weather variations.

However....

Once again "North" comes out ahead in the balance of
Winter conditions as we've observed that most of Tremblant's
Southerly Peers have seen "Plus" above freezing temps Double
what we've had here, and for much longer duration.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
