1/15/14 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Mid-night, Apres Ski…

Conditions are FAST… the depth of loose surface layers
is adequate for high performance carving on the Groomed Terrain.

Below those surface layers is a very firm sometimes icy substrate.
No surprise there after all the warm, cold, warm, cold, warm, cold
of the Eastern North American weather patterns over the last 3 or
slightly more weeks.

But it never made it.

Below:
The forecast for tomorrow says that will be a much different story
as Sunshine is forecast for the whole day.

What Might The Open Trail Count Be Tomorrow???

Just A Guess, Only A Guess… add in the Progressives from yesterday
for a Guesstimate of 75 to maybe 80 ????

-------------- 7:11 A.M. Orig. Post. ------------------

67(*) Open Trails on 4 sides of Tremblant.

Conditions on the Groomed Open Terrain will generally be
very fine with the consistent sub-zero of overnight temps.

Below:
This POV has been very useful over all the recent Weather Drama.
When it’s Foggy, when it’s Blowing Fiercely, when it’s Rainy,
or most any other time, this Summit Sector View of over
the Summit at the top of the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair
is usually visible. It tells so much about Summit conditions with
a single glance. The most reassuring is the “Snow in the Trees”,
indicating stable Sub-zero Temps.

In Today’s Official Open Trail Data...

There are also 9 Progressive or Gradual Openings listed,
so if they clear as expected that would take the total
up to 76(*) Open Trails by days end. There may be more,
there may be less.

We know for a fact that no one wants to have more open
terrain than Tremblant Mountain Crews, so the strategy
they are using will only be to optimize efficient resource utility.
The up’s and down’s of the Trail numbers during recovery
should trend upward, perhaps significantly, over the next 48 hours.

In our Preview for today in last eve’s Apres Ski we thought
that the expansion yesterday up to 80 might be carried forward,
particularly when that number was part of the posted
Official data available late last night, however that was not the case.

This Highlights the need to be patient and understanding
during the recovery phases, post January Thaw, when the
Open Trail Listings may be highly variable due to factors
beyond Human control and/or anticipation.

Technically speaking, that's why any Preliminary or Preview
data has to be accompanied by the caveat “Subject to Morning
Confirmations."

Up or Down Daily, if not Hourly, adjustments in the Open
Trail Count…

...Will not take away ANYTHING from the Generally Very Fine
Groomed Alpine Snow Sport Surfaces of Today.
Period

There will be Some Surface Glitches, but they will be minor
in comparison to the Sweet Spots that will be more like
Sweet Sectors of freshly groomed surfaces. These Sweet Sectors
should be larger than yesterday for no other reason than the
incremental daily improvements that predictably occur after
any weather anomalies.

Today’s Weather….

Starts out at -5 C or so, and at South Base Levels may rise
to Zero, accompanied by Snow Flurries. There are bands of
heavier Snowfall currently to the West, moving East, but at
this stage it’s a “Wait and See” proposition to determine
how much will come over the next 24 hours.

The Winds are Easterly to begin with, but forecast to swing around
to Sou-West and pick up to a stronger velocity through the day.
If that all happens, you’ll find them crossing the Summit from the
Soleil sector headed towards Lowell Thomas/P’tit Bonheur.

------- ------ Conditions Caveats: ------- --------

The Majority of Open, Groomed, Alpine Snow Sport Surfaces
are Very Fine and Growing by the Day, if not by the Hour...

However....

We are returning to Winter, Consistent Sub-Zero Temp's....

So, There May Be Ice Patches and Icy Substrates of Dynamic shape and
Unspecified Location that need to be navigated with extreme
CAUTION.

Daily Weather and Traffic patterns can alter the size and frequency
with which these Icy sectors are encountered.

MAKE INITIAL EXPLORATIONS AT REDUCED SPEED TO DETERMINE
SAFE PASSAGE.

Allow DOUBLE-WIDE, EXTRA PASSING SPACE.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Pg under progressive assembly….
we are experiencing a minor software issue today
so your patience is appreciated.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
