2/24/14 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

82(*) Open Trails on the Return To Wintery 4 Sides of Tremblant.

At early Summit -14 C we think “Wintery” is pretty accurate.

Descending down will bring you into warmer though, and the
projected - 9 C, South Base daytime high will be easy enough
to handle.

The wonder of the Natural Surroundings is often overlooked as
Mountain Guests are pre-occupied with Chair Lift Conversation,
Trail Map Research, checking Smart Phones for Text’s, emails
or other “Data”. For us though, having camera in hand, as we do
all day, compels us to “Stop and Smell the Roses”, or in this case,
"Stop and Smell the Snow”, which really means take the time
to pause and look around to try to capture the magnificence
of Tremblant’s Spectacular In Any Weather Winter Scenery.

We love the “Snow in the Trees”, not only because it looks beautiful,
but also because it signifies recent stability in Surfaces below the trees.
In our experience, when there’s Snow in the Trees, even this type of
Frosty Particle Snow, you know there’s great traction to be found beneath.

Today will be a very solid step forward in overall conditions refinement
as Mountain Crews have had another all-nighter on the slopes with
the Groomers. Whatever sized surface particles you found in
your Tremblant Trail Travels Yesterday, are going to be finer in size
and more consistent in depth today.

----------- Conditions Caveats ---------------

The fact remains though, that Crews are still dealing with the effects
of last Friday’s Whacky Warm, Wet Weather, so there are Natural Hazards
and Surface Glitches that are present and need to be navigated slowly and safely.

As usual, the vast majority of Tremblant’s Open Terrain is, all things
considered, quite simply wonderful, however even a singular encounter
with an icy bit at high speed, or in a crowded trail narrowing can
upset your day if an accident occurs.

Consequently, we are recommending careful explorations at reduced speeds
prior to any sustained high performance Skiing/Boarding for All Skill Levels.

Obey all Hand Posted Signage that the Ski Patrol Places in areas they
have identified, that deserve caution. Allow extra room between
yourself and others for safe passing and scan around thoroughly if
you’re making big directional changes, before you whip any quick
manoeuvres.

Do Not Tailgate… We see this happen from time to time…
Two Skiers, close together… the first in line may not be aware
of the closeness of the follower. A Hazard is seen by the first and
a sudden stop ensues. The view of the hazard is not seen by the
second because it’s blocked from view by the first, so the stop
is unanticipated and “Bang”… “Crash”… Don’t Tailgate...

-------------- End Of Conditions Caveats ----------------

Equipment Caveat:

Anytime there’s any sort of Thaw/Freeze event like last Friday’s…

You need to review your Gear’s Tune Status.

If it’s been more than 15 days of use… there’s a good chance
you will benefit HUGELY from a tune up.

Le Ski Shop in the Chalet Des Voyageurs, to the right of the
South Side Base Level of the Cabriolet is the best place to take your
gear for a tune. They have an outstanding Overnight Discount rate
and they use Globally Recognized “Best Of Breed" Computer Controlled
Automated Tuning machines that are very easy on your bases and edges
while providing those edges, razor sharpness and those bases, beautifully
flat and true running surfaces.

The Tech’s there are not only the highest calibre Experts, but the volume
of their Experience together with their Enthusiastic, Results based attitude,
gets you Skis or Board that are “Blueprinted” to spec’s that may exceed
the condition you got them in when they were brand new(**).

(**) Mass produced “Consumer” grade Skis/Boards are often ever-so-slightly
“Off” spec. in either edge condition or base flatness, so it is very possible that
individually, processed by hand, Skis or Board tuned on Le Ski Shop’s
equipment comes back to you with better dimensional accuracy than when
you got them brand new.

It’s Time for a Mid-Winter Refresher!

You’ll think someone gave you New Skis, or a New Board if you haven’t
had a tune-up recently…
it makes that much difference!

--------- Apres Ski Weather Notes @ 5:00 P.M.: -----------

There is a high degree of Weather Frustration Feedback on the part
of Eastern North American Media. For those who are not fortunate enough
to be Skiers/Boarders, we can imagine the winter of 2014 will go down
in memory as one of the longest, coolest in recent years. The Media seems
sensitive to that and is actually making it “News”. We are hearing it almost
every evening on Network Television.

Consistent with this Winter then, we still have a way to go before
things warm up. Thank Goodness it’s a Ski Resort.

We’ve had 2 Thaws since the New Year, but Forecasters are quite
unanimous now about the brief return of Arctic Air over the next
14 or 15 days to round out February and take us well into March.
As the Tremblant Alpine Snow Sport Base is still in magnificent
condition, we’re very positive about the near term future for
all Tremblant Guests/Trip Planers.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
