12/19/14 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Early Eve. Apres Ski Intro. @ 7:30 P.M.

All your best Ski/Board Friends are at Tremblant...

The very fine looking surfaces here are covering practically all of Tremblant.
There are some very firm portions on Steeper sections, but with good
edges, no real trouble at all if you are a realistically skilled Expert.

And... At the End Of The Day...

If you’re not here... you have to ask your self a lot of Questions.

...Because The Skiing, Boarding Are That Good... Oh Yeah...

We wrote earlier on about the Summit-To-Base Reliability of Top Layers within
the Groomed Open Terrain to hold an aggressive edge set and that continues to
be one of the most satisfying elements of a pristine day of Early, Pre-Christmas
Conditions

Where-ever you look, up, down, sideways, backwards, it all added up to
one inescapable conclusion...

Above: The very high contrast between Fore and Background sets the Boarder
in sharp relief as the Sun is only 2 days shy of it's lowest point in the Sky
on Dec. 21st. After that, there will be a gradual increase in the brightness close
up as the Sun begins to rise again.

We will try to have more Apres Ski later if possible, however if you are
a Regional Tremblant Fan within a handy drive, say by Canadian Standards...
6 Hours +/-, ... one way... you really should try to make it here for the Weekend.

Based on nothing other than Photographed observation of prepared and
rough groomed-in, we might speculate that Nansen Bas, Lower and/or
Sissy Schuss/Fuddle Duddle might even come on line. That’s where we
hope to focus on in a more detailed Apres Ski.

We could be totally wrong.

T360 Noon Update:

Don’t really need to say much about this one...
except maybe... “Go if you can”???

--------------- 8:57 A.M. Orig. Post ----------------

30(*) Open Trails on the Sunny South and North Sectors of #Tremblant.

Please Note: There are 8(*) “Progressive Opening” Trails indicated on
Versant Nord, The North Side, in the Official Mountain Data for today.
Review detail on these Trails Status included below as time permits,
probably Apres Ski.

The Primary Result Of Yesterdays Temperature Drop That Will Be

A Dominant Factor In Today’s Surface Performance:

A Very Much More Winter-like Feel To The Snow Underfoot.

As Grey as it has been for the past time period, there have been very
definite and beneficial enhancements to the Snow Surface Quality.
This is particularly evident in the Edge-Set reliability necessary to have
confidence in, over the length of almost any Green or Blue descent path
at Tremblant.

In other words... you do not need to worry about hitting an unexpected Icy Patch
that is going to throw your balance off.

That is not to say that there are no Icy bit’s, because there certainly are some
very “Firm” “Slick” “Solid” and if you have old, dull, not recently tuned edges...
Icy Bit’s that can be found mostly on the Steeper Pitches and Crests of the Expert,
Black Rated Trails.... BUT....

It is Hugely Important to Note that even on those Expert Level Solid Base or Icy bits,
Speed is the single most critical factor to Grip and Control.

At High Speeds, the combination of momentum, centrifugal turning force, gravity and the
Unknown Unweighting Factor of Terrain Contours that act as Ramps... can cause instant
Space Launch, Tumbling and/or Unintended Direction... and you can’t control anything
if you are unexpectedly thrown airborne and find yourself without Ground Contact.

For that Reason...

------------- Conditions Caveat --------------

Skill Set Matching to Posted Trail Difficulty Levels is Critical.

We see many Intermediates Legitimately Trying to master Expert Terrain,
but with all-too-frequent “Run-Away” consequences.

Absolute Speed Control Is Essential on Steeper Terrain that has
a Firm Base with shallow top layers.

Regardless of Skill Level, You MUST BE ABLE TO STOP OR STEER
CLEAR AT ANY TIME to avoid either People or Hazards in your path.

Today’s Weather Notes:

Sunny, Sunny, and some more Sunny! ....Yippeeee!

It’s no secret we love Tremblant in ANY weather, but in the seasonal
transition throughout Fall into Winter, it seems as though we’ve gotten more
than our fair share of Grey days this season, so the arrival of a Super Sunny
day like today is a very much appreciated change from Mother Nature.

An easy daytime high of -5C at South Resort Base levels, so the Summit may see
somewhere around -9C.

Breezes are Nor-West, so crossing the Summit from Nansen towards Duncan, but
at low to moderate speed, so not difficult at all to dress comfortably for.

Riding up the TGV or Flying Mile should be quite pleasant and you may even feel
some Solar Warming Energy at your back.

A Very Fine Early Winter Day!

WOW!!! Banzai and Marie-Claude Asselin on Progressive Opening!!!!

Excellent News! They may be a bit on the raw side for very early opening conditions,
but non-the-less, this speaks HUGE news in the overall Health and Status of
the Upper Versant Nord Snowpack.

These two runs have NO Direct Snowmaking Support and consequently are
Indicators of the attainment/establishment of Sufficient Natural Snow!

Pg. under Progressive assembly due to out of office logistical support chores.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 Apres Ski @ 10:20 P.M.

After an extended number of days at Grey, the Sun on your
back going up TGV was not only pleasant to feel, but
provided the outstanding contrast you see in the pic.

The Parks were well attended and the stream of participants was steady
on the North where we got this sample, just below the Summit at the
bottom of the Rope Tow Park Zone.

Here are Two Reasons we think Versant Sud, Nansen Bas and
Versant Nord, Sissy Schuss/Fuddle Duddle, Could be, Maybe, Possibly be,
On-Line for the weekend(**):

Entrance to Nansen Bas, Lower, at Mi Chemin/Nansen Haut, Upper.

Work in these Sectors pictured above and below has been ongoing for roughly
two weeks or so and the fill-in levels now reached have been further processed
by the first pass of Groomers that have levelled the “Big Bumps” and left
the raw trail surfaces in course size chunks generated by Machine Track Cleats.

It is not impossible, that Groomers equipped with Carbide Toothed Tiller
Attachments could make multiple passes over-night tonight to render these
Trails out to User Ready Standards, however, we do not have any privileged
knowledge to support these speculations. Once again, experience shows
that Mountain Crews do not waste resources, either time or material, so
the work done in these pic’s visible from existing Open Terrain, indicates
a high level of probability that Crews are very close to finishing.

Fuddle Duddle Bas, Lower, Run-out to
Beauchemin/Expo Quad Base Level Loading Zone.

There is also a possibility that the Fuddle-Duddle Bas Sector development
is being conducted to facilitate the Opening of La Griffe, a very popular
Local’s Run rated Black Diamond that Originates from the top of the Expo
Quad and exits onto Fuddle-Duddle Bas, Lower.

Of Course, we could be wrong, but typically, if the Weather Permits, there is a
solid push forward in Open Terrain for the expected higher Mountain User
Holiday Traffic, and that Holiday Traffic starts Tomorrow with the first
Groups that will be coming for the First Holiday Week/Weekend.

((**)Please Note: these are Case Study Examples. They are not necessarily
the only areas under strategic development by the skilled members of
the Tremblant Mountain Operations Group. All Examples can be subject to
Weather Conditions outside Human Control.)
