Oops!!! We Seem To Have Had A Little Fall Into Summer!

Wow...

After a Summer that has been anecdotally
considered by some to have occasionally
been a wee bit cool and damp...

(You can see the “Heat Haze” over the long
views from Tremblant’s Summit today.)

It’s Really Hot Out There!(**)

are about 4C Cooler. That, and the usual breezes closer to the clouds,
combine to make Hiking over Tremblant very User Friendly at ambient
ground levels of “Warm”.

It’s Regional... News Broadcasts include Sport
activities such as annual Montreal Marathon Cancelled
due to risks to participant health.

A lot of that has to do with humidity too, as the “Humidex”
factor will make it feel like 38 degrees C or over 100 Degrees F!

For those who are fond of heat, there’s good reason
to believe the next weeks will continue on at higher
than average, so you will get to hang onto a measure
of Summer into Fall!

It Ain’t Over Yet...

Our last hike on the Mountain was 27/Aug., and we can tell you
for a fact the trails are in great shape. There’s more colour in the
trees now, but this easy summer temps are going to be EXACTLY
the same for a while to go!

Below: For a portion of our descent, we chose right down the centre of the
legendary Tremblant Versant Sud, South Side, “Nansen” Haut, Upper
(Alpine Ski/Snow.b Trail Map#3), and it was a classic Tremblant Hiking day
to be sure. Nice Breeze, Spectacular Scenery, Easy Descent!

In the above article we refer to the summer of 2017
as anecdotally "considered by some to be a wee bit
damp and cool".

Here is an Archived Early-Mid Summer thermographic
chart we recorded on August 9th, 2017 showing the
Eastern Regions of North America around the Great
Lakes and St. Lawrence River at below normal temps.

So, the above certainly supports the “cool” part, but
as far as the “damp” part is concerned... any “Google”
search for “2017 Quebec Flood Damage” should yield
a lot of records for what essentially represents the
highest water levels in the lower Great Lakes and
St. Lawrence River in May, June and July, for about
100 Years.

Below is another 8.9.17 archived graphic, courtesy of
The Weather Network, for their Late August Temperature
pattern forecast. This pattern seems to have remained
much the same right through to October.

Normally we’d prefer to see coolness in the October numbers
because anything that helps to dissipate heat out of the mass
of the Mountain quickly in Fall, also helps facilitate retention
of any early Snowfall. In the case of Summer 2017 though,
the sustained lower than average up to mid August already
kept the Mountain cool and when we were hiking Nansen
as described in the above article, the Mountain Run-off streams
were still icy-cool, so cool that if held your hand submerged
in any pools of the quick running streams, it was uncomfortable
within less than a minute.

Considering that there was Snow in the nooks and crannies of
upper North Side shaded areas until June, and the early to mid
Summer cool temp’s, and the bit above regarding the still very
cool Aug./Sept. run-off, we think the core temp of the Mountain
is likely still below average, despite this early fall heat cycle.
