1/6/18 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

96(*) Open Trails at #Tremblant, with some delays on Versant Nord, North and Edge.

---------------- Mid-Day REVISED Open Trails to 90(*) -----------

Archival Copy of revised Open Trails Attached Below.
Basically, the change is the closure of the entire Edge Sector.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tremblant Is One Very Cool Ski/Board Mountain!

At Minus 25C and a “Howling Wolf” Wind,
both the “Cool” and the delays are understandable.

If you ever wondered what it would be like to ride on the nose of a 747
coming in for a landing, try standing at the top of Beauvallon for 2 minutes today.
We’d be willing to bet that amongst the Brave and the Bold out today,
there will be Zero Guests that do anything other than try to get through
this Wind Tunnel Zone as quick as gravity will take them. Even Gravity
may not be enough though, this could be one of a very few days where
wind speed will inhibit forward descent motion where peak wind velocities
are concentrated, so some “Skating” action for Skiers may be necessary.
Boarders will want to Pump the Board for all it’s worth on La Crete to try
to shoot across the Beauvallon/Alpine upper crest.

When The Winds Are Blustery, one option is to explore the
smaller, narrower, tree lined Trails that frequently have such
good shelter that there are no apparent breezes at all.

The conditions in some of the smaller sheltered Trails can be
very fine because not only do the trees act as completely
effective shelter now, but they often have acted as Scoops in
recent snowfall, so there’s frequently tons of naturally retained snow.

Standing in the midst of these smaller Trails can be both Etherial
and Practical at the same time. The “Etherial” part is the Spooky,
Erie sound of the “Howling Wolf” Wind that can be heard overhead as you
are surrounded by stillness within the canopy of the trees. The “Practical”
part is that when you need to make an outer Garment adjustment
to tighten up closures, adjust overlaps, etc., etc., being able to do
that in the complete absence of any wind at all is a huge advantage.

Take A Closer Look At All Tremblant’s "Little Guys"
And Don’t Pass ‘em By!

WOW...
Blizzard In Atlanta, Georgia! Snow Flurries In Jacksonville, Florida!

More on the North American Weather Picture later on. The reason we
want to do that is when future Tremblant Trip Planners are looking
at this record, they realize the “Context” of this recorded time period.
If the Record did not show the Big Picture context, you could
mistakenly think it was just a local Cold-Snap. Typically, the bigger
the Weather “Drama”, the larger the scope of coverage is. In this case,
it’s virtually all of North America. Two days ago, we understand it may
have been the first time in modern weather Stat’s History, that all 48 Lower
Continental States in the U.S.A. recorded Sub-Zero/below 32F, freezing
Temperatures.

Page under Progressive Assembly.
For those who are Both Brave, and Fully Equipped,
there will be Sweet Spots of Great Skiing/Boarding,
but the emphasis will be on the “Fully Equipped”
because at Peak Wind Gust Values, Plus Descent
Speed, Facing Wind Chill may exceed -50C.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
