Opening Deja Vu .... Laugh or Cry ???

Post by T360 »

Opening Deja Vu....

"I dreamt I did a head plant while I was Skiing Moguls, but the sound of the rain woke me up and my pillow was gone...."

Man 'o man ... Enough is enough Mother Nature!

Earlier on in this little scenario, we said... "Weather Forecasting is as much an art as it is science".

Now you know why.....

Once again we all have to "eat crow" as we face another delay of Opening day to December 8th.

Bummer, Man.

All we can do is keep our chin up, as we hope and pray that things will turn around for us real soon.

One thing is for sure though, once we do open, we, the Winter Sports Public, are going to have to make up for lost time by supporting Tremblant with our attendance every chance we get.

Lets face it ...some years are better than others and now is when we can really look back and appreciate seasons like '07/08, just 2 years ago when we had the record breaking best snow year in 60 years of recorded weather data, or even last year with it's abundant early season snows....

Just to jog your memories and perhaps bring a little smile to your face, see below...

From our "Laugh or Cry Archive Department" .... Our conditions report INCUDING The "Official" http://www.tremblant.ca (Courtesy of http://www.tremblant.ca) Snow Report Published one year ago today, December 3rd, 2008:

---------Copy Of Our 28 runs open Tremblant Conditions Report 1 Year Ago Today ---------

"For the most part a repeat of yesterday, BUT, with 2 important distinctions, the weather network outlook for the next 14 days shows a return to comparatively cold temperatures for almost the whole 2 weeks and they are also showing almost daily SNOWFALL in the same forecast.

This will be a huge asset to Snow Making and base retention, so we can expect to see quite a bit of expanded area being prepared to open, and actually opened.

There are too many variables in the amounts of natural snow we could get to predict exactly how far we will advance in this period, so you will need to stay tuned for updates posted as info becomes available.

The next major Milestone in the season will be the opening of the North Side TOP to BOTTOM, accessed by the Duncan Quad chair lift. After that, it should not be too long(hopefully at the same time), that the EXPO quad chair is opened and the Fuddle Duddle section of the Mountain is opened.

Some times what happens is the North Side is opened by the Expo Chair only, then to get to the top, you ski down Gagnon to the base of the Lowell Thomas triple chair.

This is particularly true during the week days at the beginning of the season. Often at this early time, the Duncan quad will only operate on weekends.

Our sources within the Resort Organization tell us that the North Side, Top to Bottom Opening, is currently anticipated for the weekend of DECEMBER 12th.

Todays weather conditions show a high temp at ground level of -3 and of course it will be cooler at the summit by 3 or 4 degrees C. The wind will be light and from the South West, so you will face into it as you ski down Beauvallon.

The snow surface should remain high quality all day and the snow expected to start shortly will only make it better.
