Weekend Editorial:

If we were to consider Ski Season as 3 distinct periods of time
we might say that the first could be called “Fall Into Winter”,
the second “Winter”, and the third, “Winter Into Spring”.

Within that central core of Winter seasonal characteristics
we suggest that there is a period of time that can be called:

The Peak Of Winter.

Editorial Continued:

At some point that we can really only determine in hindsight,
the components we recognize as optimal for “Winter” and
“Ski Season” will reach a “Peak”, or high point of synergistically
favourable quantitative values. Those components might include,
but are not limited to, a combination of:
1) Accumulated natural snowfall.
2) Consecutive days of steady sub-zero C temps that sustain snow.
3) The level of refined trail conditions generated by repetitive cycles of grooming.

We think that there is a very good possibility that
we are currently experiencing the peak of this winter
now, and for and for a short period of weeks to follow.

Just before those sunny days of March, when “Heat”
introduces the first hints of Spring...

Editorial Continued:

For future Tremblant Trip Planners, this is the reason you
should feel so confident in booking your Tremblant Ski Holiday
for Mid-February if what you are looking for is the peak of real,
genuine, legitimate “Winter”.

That is not to suggest that there is any less value or quality
in the other 2 phases of the season, i.e., the “Fall” side, or
the “Spring” side, because each of those do have exceptional
conditions quality within their time-frame, but there are obviously
other, more variable weather factors, so they have their own unique
seasonal attributes.

What is the point? If you have the discretionary time planning
capability, or if you prefer the characteristics of the heart of
the season, this is why we recommend the Mid-February time
period as closest to ideal for sustained and optimized “Winter”.

Conditions Notes:

In the Groomed:

Generally speaking, conditions are fabulous, and considering
that at 465 cm’s of natural snow so-far, well above what an
average is for a whole season, they simply could not be
anything other than exceptional.

Are they perfect?

No, within the mix are still some soft, thick bits, and some icy bits.
Both of those types of glitches are largely wind generated. As far
as the soft, thick bits, those can be prone to traffic generated moguls.
As far as the icy bits, those too can be the result of traffic, but
they are more predictable in the sense that they occur in similar
patterns of either over crests to pitches below, as we found at the
bottom of the Soleil Sector runout's or at converging trail intersections,
like we saw at the very top entrance to Devils River from Duncan Haut,
Upper. In perspective though, they are so small as a percentage of
total square trail surface area, that a Statistician would say they are
insignificant to the vast areas of excellence within each of the Green,
Blue, and Black rated terrain.

In the Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste and Un-Groomed:

With over 215 cm’s, over 7 feet, of new snow in the last month,
our Sous Bois friends are telling us conditions are extraordinary.

The Peak Of Winter???

It’s a concept or a theory, but regardless,
the net effect is an outstanding Skiing experience.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
