3/12/19 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

102/102(*) Open Trails On The Peak Of Winter Slopes Of #Tremblant .

It’s A 2 Day Mother Nature Sale On Near-Ideal,
Winter Slopes Of Tremblant.

After the last few days of "Huffing and Puffing”, Mother Nature
settles into a very easy, almost calm by comparison, super-sunny
final(?) instalment of genuine winter.

Weather Notes:

Important repeat from yesterday due to historic significance.

All This PLUS Another 13cm’s Overnight
for a new total of 537cm’s!

At 537 cm’s, there Is More Snow At Tremblant Today,
Than Any Other March 12 In The Last 11 Years.

The significance of the above statistical data point can not be
overstated in terms of the beneficial attributes derived within
the entire Tremblant Alpine Snow Sports Trail Network. Period.

When you combine this much natural snowfall with the optimization
utilities of grooming and trail development, you get as close as we think
you can, to “Ideal” for this season.

The two Versant Soleil Algonquin samples above also highlight
the versatility in the conditions today. In this case, it’s Experts
mixing it up with Intermediates and everyone’s having great
fun because the fabulous quality of the slope facilitates ease
and speed simultaneously. It goes both ways though..., and
today will be a great day for confident Beginners and Intermediates
to try more challenge as there is typically excellent forgiveness in all
surfaces as temps rise.

After Tomorrow, there’s a wee shot of “Spring”...

As far as today is concerned, way warmer than the recent very
cool mornings, but still “Breezy” with a Nor-West wind that will
be coming up the Mountain over Beauvallon/McCulloch and
crossing the Summit towards Duncan. The most forceful spots
will be at those trail-head crests, and once you’re below the
Summit there will be much less sustained velocity, although
descending on Versant Sud, the South Side, is still going to be
a “Head-Wind” situation that will generate quite a bit of net windchill
effect.

It should be noted that the precipitation forecast component
has evolved towards what we would consider to be a positive
way, in the sense that the rain icons for Thursday and Friday
have been reduced to small scale which indicates the active
weather should be passing in bands over the region, as opposed
to being a widespread covering blanket. That is a huge difference
in terms of not only Ski/Board utility, but also in terms of any
thermal impact on surfaces. More on this point to follow below.

“If, If, If...” the rain icons stay small for Thur/Fri., then it is possible
that the passing zones of precipitation could miss Mountain elevations
either mostly or completely. Our observations over years have seen
many similar scenarios and what we notice is that these types of
weather events commonly arrive with very low cloud formations.
If/when that happens, the Mountain can act as a diverter that
splits up the active bits and pushes them outward due to the conical
shape they encounter. The other potentially positive thing in that
low cloud case, is that rain typically falls below the cloud, not in the
cloud, so it can be a very common situation where there’s rain at
surrounding base levels, while the Mountain may only be “foggy”.

We could be wrong on all this, and the models may change, but if
those rain icons remain on the small scale, the chances of “Less”,
are “More”. The current indication of a return to Zero C, and Snow
for Saturday, simply underscores the briefness of this event, so
we think it’s going to be a sort of glimpse, a quick peek view of
spring.

Conditions Notes:

Today:

Extraordinary Snow Gets You Extraordinary Conditions. Period.

The detail is that after weeks and weeks, and weeks of stable
Sub-Zero C’s, uninterrupted by any thermal spikes, the trail base
is excellent, so for today and tomorrow, so will the Skiing/Boarding.
Beyond that, a couple of totally normal warm days that can happen
in any March, are not going to substantially effect coverage.

There will probably be some icy bits afterwards, but hey... it’s March!

Conditions are way easier as we see the depth
of winter temps in the rearview mirror. Get ready
for the joys of Spring Skiing just around the corner
and plan your Tremblant days accordingly!
