and very appreciative ways possible, today was...

DATA POINT ALERT: New Record For Seasonal Snowfall Accumulation @ 606 cm’s
More on the significance of this very important benchmark tomorrow morning.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The performance would be exceptional for any Mid-winter day.

The fact that it is April 10, makes it exceptional for any April in history.

Fantastically Beautiful !!!

Much of the day felt sunny, although there were a lot
of cloud shadows overhead, then there were moments
of almost unbelievable brightness, like this Nansen Haut, Upper
scene with not only a very intense concentration of sun,
but the magnificent sparkling diamond-like effect of
the sun being refracted by thousands of ice-coated tree
branches.

We promised an “After” shot to compare to the “Before” shot we
had from yesterday on Versant Nord, North Side “Marie-Claude Asselin”
to illustrate grooming refinement. Here it is...
(Please Note: The “Before” shot is in the body of the original
post for todays date below. Scroll on down for all of that.)

Here Is A Primary Reason For The Excellence

After all the weather drama, the big snow, would be just a big mess
without the talent and experience of Tremblant’s Mountain Operations
Group. They are our Hero’s!

There is an immense amount of potential in possible
grooming refinements and we are very pleased to see
Banzai and Marie-Claude Asselin on the groomed list.
What we hope to do is a case study on MCA from this
pic below as “Before”, i.e., yesterday.

We were thrilled to have so many problems with photography
yesterday. It was the kind of day that wrecks cameras that aren’t
“Splash Proof”(#), not to mention the light was so snow-filtered
and overcast low contrast, so the pic’s are fewer and not as detailed
as we’d like, however...

When it comes to “Ski Conditions” reporting, we’ll cheerfully take
these problems all day long, because there’s just no substitute for
ton’s of falling snow!

This sample from Nansen Haut, Upper, yesterday afternoon is
terrible for surface detail, but wonderful for conveying the
absolute joy of a genuine “Winter” day at April 9, and we can
tell you for a fact, the trail surface here was close to perfect.

We wrote yesterday about the blended product of natural snow
over the previous nights freezing rain. You can review that in
yesterday’s post, but basically, it was exactly as we thought it
would be. The areas most noticeable were on the Sud, South sides
and they will all respond very favourably today with another overnight
grooming cycle and additional Skier/Boarder traffic.

Essentially, freezing rain is ultimately a sort-of non-issue because
it is not erosive and as solid material, it simply gets chewed up
and integrated by grooming as an initially course granular component.

This below is a sample from Mid-McCulloch showing the exact
detail we refer to. Although it looks quite course, because the
bigger particles are surrounded by natural snow, it all skis quite
well. No doubt, you could feel it underfoot, but traction was still
very adequate for good technical carving.

More on all the evolving conditions at Apres Ski...

Weather Notes:

The Heat Is On The Way...

As remarkable as the late season snowfall is,
the string of daytime high temps well above Zero C
are inevitably going to generate thaw factors over
the remaining days of the Official schedule, so our
advice is, go as soon and as often as you can.

The summary is... (!)It’s a new record
of recorded snowfall accumulation in the
modern Tremblant era @ 606 cm’s.
More on that to follow, but when it comes
to “Today”, that’s really the big factor in
the rather surreal residual snow-pack
and consequently, the overall quality.

((#)Photo Utility Notes:
Due to several exposures to snow/water damage that caused
the failure of our first one, we now take more care of our second
main Canon SX60-HS which is generally a multi-purpose imaging
tool of compact, light weight, incredible versatility, but was not
designed to tolerate being jam-packed with driven snow. DSLR’s
currently available are not good enough because they are too big,
weigh too much and are too limited in single lens telephoto range
for practical Mountain reporting pic's. The advantage of the Canon is
its single, 24mm to 1200mm F/E, 64 X Optical zoom lens, in a small
20 ounce device that can easily be keep inside a zipped jacket for both
warmth to preserve battery life for -20’s C days, as well as for 5 second
or less deployment for spontaneous pic. opportunities.)

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
